I have a pair of shoes that I love but they don’t fit right no matter what I do. I try changing the feet on hud but they either hover over the shoe slightly or too big. My heels keep showing and I’m not sure what to do. The shoe said it was for legacy which is the body I have.

im really lost. Any help will be appreciated. Thank you

Have you tried to make your feet smaller? Right click on your self, select Appearance->Edit Shape, the tab Legs.

If the above does not help and you selected the correct foot shape for the shoes, I am afraid not much to do, unless the shoes are modify.

Always try a demo, before buying anything, especial when shoes, clothing of any kind.

Just unimportant other things like the operating system and other applications you might be running at the same time. Or silly things like vertex buffers for the rendered objects. I know, completely unimportant compared to cranking up the texture setting as high as possible...

Yes, all that is obvious for anyone working professional with Windows and programming for many years. Anyway I push the limits and I know, what I am doing (mostly) and always keeping an eye on VRAM usage and temperature.

And no, I do not have my C# deveopler enviroment open, processing video encoding, working in Blender and GIMP or using the memory hog Chrome with 100 open tabs...  -  when in SL.

What I like, is precise numbers and why 2 GB free VRAM on a 6 GB VRAM GPU is not enough. Surely a GPU with 8/10 GB VRAM would be better.

SL runs from a single thread and will barely get a modern graphics card out of bed. If you want to keep the FPS up, keep the draw distance down and avoid places with other avatars.

I have no problems getting excellent FPS in general even with 240 meters as default. And yes useing presets for clubs, events (low number of none-impostors, draw distance 64/96 meters etc).

As I have written countless times all modern GPU like the GeForce GTX serie with 4GB and better handle SL and OpenGL without problems and flawless. Highest GPU usage I have noticed, when running Firrestorm is 24% or so.

    1. Where exactly are you getting that 1.8 GB VRAM usage number from?
    2. What exactly makes you think for even a moment that maxing out that slider is in any way a good idea?
    3. Do you have any other programs running at all while using Second Life?
    4. Do you view any sort of video content anywhere at all while using Second Life (that includes from within the Viewer itself)?

The list goes on and on.

I will add in as well that part of the takeaway for that tooltip should be telling you that what you are doing is taking VRAM away from other GPU related functions to use it solely for your Texture Buffer - meaning it is not available for anything else.

I've got a 6 GB GPU myself. I have that set no higher than a little over 3GB to leave room for all other applications. And they do need plenty of room.

Thanks for feedback, I got the number from Windows Task Manager on GPU usage and Hardware Monitor from CPUID.

I am fully aware other programs also use VRAM, normally I just run SL with Firestorm and nothing else, but from time to opening e-mail to check/answer, use Firefox to view Flickr or Youtube vidoes while in world. Load reported with Task Manager is around 18-24% on GPU and usage of 1.9-2.0 GB VRAM (right now Firestorm running, Firefox showing forum here, Flickr page and a Youtube video running).

Should I do video recording, work in say GIMP with 4K images etc, I manually lower the texture buffer in FS before starting vidoe recording other things. And yes web browsers especial Chrome are memory hogs!

Yeah, wasted watt-hours, I suppose, but, the location seen by the eye is enough fresher to make a difference between winning and losing a competitive e-sports match and winning money to buy a 240Hz display to win the next one with!  I'm not making this up.  Lack of understanding does not alter facts.

And currently 360 Hz on world fastest gaming monitor from ASUS, this currently only with full HD (1920 x 1080 with 360 Hz) due to limitation on display port or HDMI. Next generation display port and HDMI should make higher Hz possible in 1440p and 4K resulotions.

Still got 2 GB free for the system...

So explain and teach me, why it is bad to set the Viewer Texture Memory Buffer to 4 GB, when I got a GPU with dedicated 6 GB VRAM. Normal the dedicated VRAM usage (system + viewer) for me at home etc. is like 1.8 GB, high trafic clubs places like 3.2 GB.

In Firestorm the popup help tells: "The minimum amount of memory to allocate for textures. This will make sure the specified amount will always be used for textures. even if it exceed the amount of avaible video memory.... "

How does usage of a 4 GB texture memory buffer exceed my GPU VRAM?

  6. One thing I noticed with late updates of Firestorm since May, a general fall of the high FPS on default/low graphics compared to before, but a stable good FPS when graphics in Ultra with all the whistles and bangs on in even busy complex regions/clubs. And this is good.

    Others who noticed the same?

Further, high complex mesh avatars with lot of high resolution textures always had and will have major impact on performance, but I observed a decrease in viewer performance if 25+ avatars in a region, where this impact was less before. Lowering numbers of non-impostors does help, but not much.

And even with Viewer Texture Memeory Buffer cranked up to 4.096 MB ( system reports 3.2 GB of 6 GB VRAM used), everything loaded and moving the cam around with mouse in a busy club, some avatars textures turn grey and reloads like it was texture trashing, but this looks like to me some changes made on how updates are handled by the viewer, when the cam is moved around around.

EDIT: You CAN transfer your account to someone when you die  but you have to go through channels to do that.

Some of us (maybe 1 percent) actually DO read the TOS now and then LOL.

I hope it, should have been transfer your account to someone before you die  😲 - or does SL have some secret transcendental functions? 😂

I don't run Windows anymore to see if that would help in my case. The last time I had Windows 10 installed on a dual-boot setup, my tests then showed that AMD open source drivers on Linux ran all viewers around 50% faster than the official AMD drivers on Windows on the exact same hardware. This is on Polaris GPUs (RX580). It would be interesting to see how Navi 2 (RX6xxx) is faring with Linux kernel 5.11 and Mesa 21.1-dev.

If I installed Windows 10 again, I'd be taking a big step backwards in viewer performance. Linux uses faster file systems by default than Windows, and installing one viewer would not have any effect at all on how other viewers run due to how the binaries are compiled with their associated libraries. Faster caching and multi-threading would likely benefit viewers compiled for Windows more than Linux, since Linux is already faster by design.

Standard OpenGL driver in Windows are way faster than drivers provided by NVidea/AMD. If someone never plays AAA games or do not need need more advanced functions, be it hardware support or software editing/video recording etc, Second Life and all basic OpenGL runs fast and excellent with the standard drivers.

    Hey All,

I am not sure if this is the right place to put this issue I am having.

I just logged into SL today using firestorm, and I am experiencing an issue.

I attempted to edit an object which brought up the edit pop up box, but out of nowhere this boxed disappeared and now no mater where I click on, my screen is selecting object to edit without the pop up edit box. I tried clearing cache, restarting firebox, jumping from one region to the next, but still getting this issue.

Anyway for me to stop this from occurring.

Most often this is caused by an obejct being moved way out on either X or Y axes, more seldom on Z axe. Happens accidently easy for even the best.

You can search using menu World -> Area Seach. If you named it, enter name of part of it. If it got the name "object" search for Owner, enter you own user name (not displayname).

No luck, check out region position 0, 0, 0 . Still nothing, check you Lost and Found folder in your inventory. It can take some time before it is returned, but if auto returned, it should be there typical next day.

When I open up SL I do not see the page just log in, when I want to view landmark, or profiles they will not load.  I am using windows 10.  Can someone please help me figure this issue out.

    Thank You

    Shar

    Hi Shar,

Try and copy paste information from the viewer menu Help - > About .., insert it in a post here, this will make it eassier to help you.

It sounds though as if you have problems with your internet connection being slow.

Just because a region is reported as fully, it does not mean that the entire potential of the region is actually being exploited. Often, the region owners or managers reduce the number of visitors allowed to prevent people with excessive script load from pulling down the region. We had a wedding last year with a total of 96 guests. Thanks to a good information policy, and we all know that weddings are usually attended by dozens of scripted overloaded guests, the region nevertheless ran with a very pleasant performance and there were no complaints about excessive delays.

Thanks for clarifying, impressive wedding event and besides server side, good performance highly depending on good region design. Good work you did.

  12. Friends of mine own a popular club full region sized, some weeks ago there were 87 people in the club. People visiting have complex mesh avatars and club script limit for an avatar is 180 scripts. As you can imagine  lag does though get notitable. On arrivial a little patience required, but once the avatars rezzed, I have good 14-20 FPS with high graphics and ALM enabled and can socialize, dance, chat without problems.

Number of high complex mesh avatars have significant impact, I observed if less than 26 avtars I have good high FPS, if more than 26 server FPS start to drop dratic and loading of new arriving avatars takes longer.

Shopping event often results in the message region full, when you try to TP to the event. This hence must mean, there are 100 avatars in a full region. Same with Linden Lab birthday celebration, where live performances often are so popular the region is full. I assume Linden lab dynamic can set number of max avatar allowed lower than 100. Typical you can TP into an adjacent regions and participate.

It turned so bad starting over a year ago.   I have not been able to login to secondlife in i don't know how long.  It's' been well over a year.  I just sit there looking at "requesting region capabilities".  It sucks bad.  Please fix it.

This can be caused by bad internet routing/handling and it could be a very simple thing.

Try and open command prompt in Windows 10, in the command windows type ipconfig /flushdns hit enter, now type the command ipconfig /renew hit enter.

If you like me use a laptop and connects from different locations and with different IPS, always good to use the commands above.

  14. Raytracing would put a considerable overhead on performance in SL and notice even full HD with raytracing really requires like GTX 3070 or more expensive high end graphic cards in optimzed AAA games.

And clever usage of creators on materials and UV maps really show how good Second Lise is with Advanced Light Modelling (ALM) and gives eftects like reflections. Impressive and excellent work in the SL engine by Linden Lab.Try and visit some high end quality regions with grahics set to ultra and all the bells and whistles on. Done right by the creators/builders even good high FPS is maintained.

To me, it shows the old lady (Second Life) still sings!

I do not use and have not used Windows for many years now. The closest thing to it I currently use is Proton and WINE. The closest thing to it I will use in the future will be ReactOS (once it properly catches up).

There is no reason whatsoever to require the average end user to enable Developer Features, least of all to circumvent something that should not even be there in the first place. Android has a similar problem with functions that should not even be behind such a 'wall' having been placed in the Developer Options (among other issues).

It is not all that hard to understand and is (part of) why I stated that I cannot roll my eyes hard enough. The other part is that a program "signed" by Microsoft is not intrinsically more "trustworthy" - such has been the case since the early days of their OS and company.

OK Solar, I actual agree with you on this, but for the normal Windows user, they are confronted with this limitation.

And of course given the history of Microsoft trying to obstruct others and especial earlier open source, trustworthy can be questioned. But it is an attempt to secure the normal user againgst malious software.  Personal I wish, we had like an independt 3rd party certifying.

Ah yes, because all programs that are "signed" by that Microsoft Certificate are - in fact - trustworthy ....

cannot roll my eyes nearly hard enough ....

Then do like this - not recommended for normal users, who want just a little help to keep their system secure.

Open Settings -> Click on Update & security -> Click on For developers. Use developer features, select the Sideload apps option. Confirm, reboot system.

How hard can it be, but maybe to hard to see with rolling eyes and stupid humiliation.

It got me today, on the laptop where I am retaining Windows 10 just for the challenge. It's an old intel integrated graphics chip laptop that therefore needs 32-bit versions of the viewers.

The lost logins weren't a problem, but the new behaviour was a little alarming.

I downloaded the latest version of a TPV that I use to connect to my standalone, and when I clicked on it to install, I got a large blue square dead-centre of the display with a message "Windows prevented an unauthorized App from running on this PC".

So, in answer to the question "What are you doing to 'make Windows better' this time?" - they're protecting me from disturbing their "windows as a service" installation by running something they themselves haven't approved?

Ok, so there's a way round it, if you look hard enough, I got the install completed. But how long is it before Windows10 won't allow you to get around the big blue box for any program that hasn't been through an official vetting stage at Redmond?

You just click "Learn more" and accept to continue. Blame should really be placed on software distributors, who do not provide the certificats to ensure their packed installation is valid and can be trusted.

OK thanks Ansariel. It looks as though I am just going to have to re-enter my username and password info for my small army of alts 😉 thanks again!

    If problems check: https://wiki.firestormviewer.org/fs_stored_passwords

It is just a simple entering of your username and password again. And yes, keep a record of username(s)/password(s) in either a simple text file or use a 3rd password handling program. Either way keep the backup on for example external USB or external disk.

ughhhhh wtf am i doing wrong, i can now legit say I'VE DONE EVERYTHING

Try and get help from a gamer in your circle of friends/family, it could be a very simple thing not set correct. You graphic card GTX 1650 should run SL with 45+ FPS without problems.
