OK thanks Ansariel. It looks as though I am just going to have to re-enter my username and password info for my small army of alts 😉 thanks again!

    If problems check: https://wiki.firestormviewer.org/fs_stored_passwords

It is just a simple entering of your username and password again. And yes, keep a record of username(s)/password(s) in either a simple text file or use a 3rd password handling program. Either way keep the backup on for example external USB or external disk.

@Aishagain @Rachel1206 - Okay i legit have tried everything and my fps are not getting any higher, if anything they've stay below 7fps.

ughhhhh wtf am i doing wrong, i can now legit say I'VE DONE EVERYTHING

Try and get help from a gamer in your circle of friends/family, it could be a very simple thing not set correct. You graphic card GTX 1650 should run SL with 45+ FPS without problems.

@Rachel1206 @Lillith Hapmouche my stats from secondlife:

CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 4800H with Radeon Graphics          (2894.57 MHz)
    Memory: 15733 MB
OS Version: Microsoft Windows 10 64-bit (Build 19041.804)
    Graphics Card Vendor: NVIDIA Corporation
Graphics Card: GeForce GTX 1650 Ti/PCIe/SSE2
    Graphics Card Memory: 4096 MB

    Windows Graphics Driver Version: 27.21.14.6172
    OpenGL Version: 4.6.0 NVIDIA 461.72

OK, see this is important, your PC has an onboard AMD Radeon Graphics GPU and a discrete real NVidea GeForce GPU, so two graphics cards.

In Windows, click START, select Control Panel > System > Select the Hardware tab > Device Manager > Display Adapters. Right click on the listed display (AMD Radeon integrated graphics) and select DISABLE.

Open GeForce Control Panel and do as below:

    20210217_NVidia_Control_Panel01.thumb.png.c6b7293e4ba408a7bdeb03c72fb7fc36.png

In your case GeForce GTX 1650 Ti, which is an excellent GPU. You should have high FPS even on high and ultra graphic settings.

Further settings I use, use Adaptive power management on a laptop.

Last, be sure you NVidea GeForfe drivers are updated.

I am hoping someone could provide a little clarity as to why my fps has dropped drastically.

I've followed every thing under the sun to troubleshoot the cause of the drastic frame rate. And i've even performed a factory reset thinking it was my laptop.

Long story short, Last thursday i had received an error, logged into Firestorm an error appeared that my LSL BRIDGE NOT FOUND.
Since then, my FPS has been less than 10, reaching to probably as low as 2fps.

@M1SSZEE try and copy and paste info from Help->About in Firestorm, important to see if the viewer detects your internal graphic card correct.

Your computer should run Second Life flawless, not with highest FPS, but ok.

As your problem has been going on for 5 days, it not a Windows update causing it.

I assume you have updated drivers, else check https://www.amd.com/en/support

If Firestorm bridge  is not recreated as suggested by @Lillith Hapmouche , check https://wiki.firestormviewer.org/doku.php?id=fs_bridge_issues

Ooops actually I was sailing right before I took those specs and forgot to change it. I am usually set around 100 or so, but no it doesn't make any difference to the texture loading.

How do I go about finding an up to date driver? And what do I do if it messes everything up and I can't use SL at all any more? Is there a way to revert if it all goes wrong?

1060 GTX 6 GB GPU here, I run with 240 meters draw distance most of the time and this does not cause any problems normally. Your GForce 1050 4 GB handles SL without problems.

Couple of months old NVidea drivers should not be a problem, as the updated drivers mainly are targeted for high end games (ray traycing, game specific things) and if I remember correct no problems has been reported by NVidea regarding OpenGL/Vulkan lately. Current NVidea driver release is 461.72 (2021-02-25).

You should have GForce Experience installed, it can ensure you have updated drivers, just use manual install and set check mark in remove previous drivers, before you update drivers. GForce Experience keeps a copy of previous drivers/download unpacked, which can result in 10+GB harddisk space used.

What else could cause grey texture? Have you tried to clear the cache in FS? I have seen same as you from time to time on my old system, clearing the cache solved the problem. A simple error in the cache can result in missing texture. Also be sure to exclude your FS cache from virus checking.

Seldom it can be the SL servers, where the texture for some reason fails to load/getting updated. I have experienced this with own made mesh and textures and some hair I used for years, where suddenly hair texture went gray.

I was playing again with the Artbreeder site and remixed an SL avatar. I decided to go to Everypixel and have the neural network evaluate my image. It came back with a 6.3% chance of my image being awesome. Wonderful.

Research have shown that just minor changes of an image can fool neural networks, even one pixel only, where the neural network categorized a horse as a frog! ( FYI, see IEEE Transactions on Evolutionary Computation, Vol.23 , Issue.5 , pp. 828--841. Publisher: IEEE. 2019

Clearly EveryPixel's neural network is badly made and biased towards certain traits. In general this is a problem with serious neural networks used all over the world, where they are biased with caucasian input, western world demographics. The implemications are major, for example law enformement using neural networks, banks using neural networks to evalute a loaner etc.

  7. Try and set your particle count to like 1,024 or lower. Fog in SL is normally made with scripts, where some scripters use the partice emitter values wrong, which can have high impact on even expensive high-end graphic cards.

If you run SL in say ultra graphic settings things like fog puts on extra load on your computer.

It is a good idea to inform about your hardware, GPU and settings, this can be easy obtained with with Help->About and copy paste the information.

That's actually normal. As per linked Wiki, "This setting is hard limited based on the VRAM available with your graphics card. (...) GPU 4GB+ = up to 2048MB"

    As Coffee said...

If may I ask, what body do you use? What is your avatar complexity?

It is a bug, she does not have the option for enabling dynamic texture memory. Her graphic card has 8 GB VRAM.

Her graphic card should handle max out Ultra settings without problems, even if she had several Chrome windows open and same time doing a real time video encoding!

For the longest time I could listen to AAC encoded shoutcast streams on an HTML5 player on a prim. That ability disappeared one day and I can only listen to MP3 streams?

For what reason was this changed? AAC streams of the same quality of an MP3 stream use much less bandwith.

Are you sure QuickTime decoder is working on your system?

If we could get subsurface scattering into skin rendering, that would be a big help. Skin looks either dead or too glossy.

Bakes on Mesh makes this harder. You don't have a "skin layer" in the viewer.  You have a merged layer of skin and some clothing. So it's hard to do this from viewer side without more help from the assets. Without BOM, you could identify the skin layer and give it special treatment.

BOM layer 0 is the skin de facto, this could be used in a viewer getting the layer info send by the server, when user applies it.

  12. Try and visit inVerse, their in world shop with demo rezz of houses: http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Recouster/174/107/36

inVerse made many modern looking houses with huge window parts. I have the "PUERTO RICO", it was only 350 L$, removed all outdated the furniture and it was only around 90 prims then.

Some houses, which partial meet your demands at inVerse: Coronado, Key West, Palo Alto, Cologny

All houses are copy and mod, so you can remove parts, you do not like or turn say a swimming pool into something else.

  13. For intel based PC with NVidea GTX recommendations in 2020 - all will run Second Life fast and stable with high graphics with ALM enabled:

    Minimum

iCore3, 16 GB RAM, GTX 1050 4 GB VRAM GPU, 512 GB SSD

    Recommend

    iCore5/iCore7, 16-32 GB RAM, GTX 1060/2060/3060(*) 6 GB/8GB VRAM GPU,  512 GB/1 TB SSD

    Gamer

    iCore7/iCore9, 16-32 GB RAM, GTX 1070/2070/3070 8+GB VRAM GPU, 1 TB SSD

    Professional

    iCore9, 32-64 GB RAM, GTX 1080/2080/3080 8+ GB VRAM, 1+ TB SSD

For display on the laptop, go for a 144 MHz display, new gaming laptops have 144/266/300 MHz. Entry models only have 60 MHz.

(*) GTX 3060 will be presented 12th of January 2021

  14. If you can provide system information (copy paste from Help->About), some of the experts on the SL VIewer will be able to help you better.

What come to mind immediately without knowing anything about your system:

    • Your problems you starting to encounter with latest update, could it be something like a corrupted cache? I would try and clear cache and see, if it solves your problems.
    • Next easy fix is typical updating graphic drivers.
    • Connection issues - high ping/bad connection. Typical with very high ping times, you will not be able to move and everything very slow.

OMG.. is terrible.. I'm a kind of newbie on certain things so I hope that other see me in the right way 😬
Fortunately I do not do social life 😎

You can easy check for your self, enable ALM (Advanced Lighting Model)and check, how you look. Just adjust you skin, if it is to shiny.

In Firestorm you enable/disable ALM in Preferences->Graphics->General, check box Advanced Lighting Model.

Sounds more like that it's just the result of the messed up specularity in EEP viewers.

OK, should we report it back as a JIRA? It would need to be very precise and point out the threshold values, where things get messed up.

    20201221_SHINY.thumb.png.8445f48bb6b0dc31883a83ad9de097ca.png

Illustration of the the problem as mentioned in my OP - on purpose I made my skin to shiny, as I noticed many avatars have.

With high set glossiness and shininess, people will appear as on side 2 on the picture to residents, who have high graphics and ALM on.

If they do not have ALM enabled, they see them self as perfect good looking as on side 1 and not understanding, what all the fuzz is about.

For avatars the problem easy solved using low discrete glossiness and shininess values, only do minor, fine adjustments.

What I find hard to understand, is why some creators of clothes etc, use high values and making their creations look "über shiny". Now, as others have pointed out, if wrongly used normal and spectacular maps, this makes the problem worse. Now, if bug in viewer as @arton Rotaru points out, things get really hard to correct in a simple way and could explain, why some creators struggle to get it right.

  17. OK, today at a pool party I asked one friendly, if he had ALM on and knew, how he looked.

He did not - send him a picture and his reaction was: OMG, I look like a joke.

Helped him with Preferences in Graphics and how to adjust his body HUD.

So, in this case, an user who needed a little help. But still leaves the big question, why creators use those high shine settings/make product looking like that.

  18. @KjartanEno and @Lyssa Greymoon It is for the 3060, which will be the cheapest of the current GTX 30XX cards. Will they make something like the current cheapest GTX 1050 series, trying to make a <200 US$ 30XX GTX, I guess so.

But the thing is, this should make the current line of GTX 10XX and 20XX GPU much cheaper. A GTX 1060 6GB is currently around 300 US$, I will not be surprised, if they drop to like 200 US$ or below rather quickly and then some good bargains can be made.

Edit: As a Scandinavian, I obviously benefit from low US$ exchange rate.
