  1. I doubt any serious designer/creator do not work with ALM enabled. But I noticed lot of creators/designers going on vogue with über shinny products, be it clothing or makeup, lipstick, eye shadow. And yes, it looks terrible, when glossiness and environment values not used wise and discreet and if normal and spectacular maps not well made.

Right so basically I've spent $250 USD on a hotel build and now when I try to upload to second life it says Error: DAE parsing issue - see log for details. I googled this error message and have done everything the people in other forum topics told me to do, but it's still not uploading. If anyone who's good at this kind of thing could look at the obj file and fix it for me I would greatly appreciate it because this whole project has been nothing but absolute stress and I need it to end. Thanks.

Did you try and contact the creator of the 3D hotel you bought. I am quite sure, most professional creators would be happy to assist you on exporting it correct, I assume you bought it with full rights to be used, as you want to.

My girlfriend just got a new head and body, but she's got a line at her neck and can't seem to get rid of it ... please see the pic below. She's wearing a legacy body with genus head and E. Beauty skin and head applier.  No neck corrector with either and on dot 4 in the legacy hud. Any suggestions on how to fix?

She can try and adjust glossiness, environment (and intensity if supported in HUDs for the body and the head) on her head and body. Type default values down before adjusting. Only minor adjusts should be needed and it is trial and error for her.

A slight difference will always be visible unless everything is made by same creator. Adjusted good though, this difference will be like real life foundation on face/neck, where this is visible to some degree, but acceptable.

Her lifted summer hair also makes it quite visible, long hair hanging down helps covering the difference, and of course a necklace or collar would make the transition smother as the clear line is hidden.

  4. If it is differentiate between simple prim and mesh, how about using llGetObjectDetails OBJECT_PRIM_EQUIVALENCE , OBJECT_SERVER_COST, normally a mesh item compared to a default prim would have server cost>0.1

This is by no means a bullet proof approach, but the only one, I can think of.

  5. Dear all Lindens, Moles, SL17B staff, hosts and helpers,

Thank you for amazing Second Life 17th Birthday - so many wonderful things to explore, be inspired by. The live events and DJ events were excellent, as the huge number of people attending the events showed.

Meet the Lindens (and Moles) one of best regular Second Life birthday events.

With an event so big, it is impossible to cover everything and the hidden gems, I often discovered by chance walking around and curious exploring artists, creators, organizations contribution to SL17B. I collected some of my experiences in my Flickr album SL17B

And thanks to all the wonderful people I meet, laughed with, partied with - shared so amazing memories with.

See you all next year at SL18B! 🥰

  6. I am European and hence visiting at times of the day, where US traffic is lower. But I was surprised, how easy I could move around and had excellent FPS in general with my normal setting between High and Ultra (have a good fast gaming laptop). I thought someone either Linden or Mole did excellent job there.

In general I find Linden LB did excellent job on SL17B, even at a live concert with 120+ ppl, things worked well, of course we all could feel the impact of so many avatars, but not like things going to halt and super slow rezz.

  7. I am using Firestorm 6.3.9 (58205) May 27 2020 01:20:51 (64bit) (Firestorm-Releasex64) with Havok, so I do not know, if this also applies for the official viewer.

When receiving notifications, and closing it with the X - not clicking LM, NC - those LM, NC etc get dumped in the trash.

I use groups a lot and it is annoying the trash gets flooded with all those LM/NC. It also happens, when entering a sim, where offered LM, NC etc as a service, even if not active accepting those, they get dumped into the trash.

Is this a new feature or a bug?

...  I am hoping anybody out here might have some insight, has run into this, and was able to find a fix.  I am also wondering if there is anybody out there on a Windows 10 desktop machine (with latest updates) with more than one monitor, and an nVidia card that, that is having no trouble launching a Second Life viewer from the secondary or tertiary display?

I have no problems with the viewer if I launch it from the primary display, and drag it over to the secondary display, but if I close the viewer on the secondary display, it will want to pop up there again next time, and freeze.

I have made some comments on the JIRA, but not everybody looks there, so I was hoping maybe somebody had some exposure to this who is reading the forums.  For anybody interested, the JIRA on this issue is here:  https://jira.secondlife.com/browse/BUG-227725

Any insight or guidance on this issue is highly appreciated.  Thank you! :)

FYI. I am running with two monitors extended and using GForce 1060 6GB, and Windows 10 2004, where Firestorm 6.3.9 (58205) May 27 2020 01:20:51 (64bit) (Firestorm-Releasex64) with Havok support is running on monitor 2 on a Asus gaming laptop without problems.

Second monitor on display port, the monitor Asus 24'' 144 KHz.

You see my setup on attached picture.

  9. A good idea is to use a cooling pad especial in summertime, when attending SL for long time/sessions.

You place the laptop on the cooling pad and it is either powered by USB or external power, price range is about 35-55 US$.

Most gaming laptop also have a gaming control center, where you can boost the fan. As a rule of thumb the CPU should not be above 90c and only in peaks - 60-70c normal. Modern GPU like GForce can take like 115c, but try not exceed 90c at peaks, but should only occur seldom and the heat so high from the GPU not good for the CPU.

I finally decided to try out the HiDPI on my 16" MacBook Pro. I was a bit worried because there is a warning that it will degrade performance.

However, I found the exact opposite. My frame rate almost doubled and the graphics are crisp and clear. It makes SL look absolutely stunning.

Anyone else getting this same result or is it just me?

On any given computer system, if you hit the optimal screen size for the GPU, it will be faster, obviously mostly when scaling high rez resolutions down.

is fixed in Linden viewer: Second Life Release 6.4.2.541639 (64bit). Am a cloud until all my parts arrive then rezzed as a whole

not fixed yet in my primary alternate viewer: Catznip R12.3 - Oct 14 2019 14:36:53 (64bit) (Catznip Release)

not sure about Firestorm or any other

Firestorm not updated with fix, or it is something else.

Also lately I experience parts (breast) missing, when I change clothing and I have to toggle baked on mesh in order to force the missing parts to show. Simple force appearance update does not work, only disabling baked on mesh and enable it again.

The steps above make the underlying Linden body appear.

I'd never thought myself as "wetware" - well well.  I'd hesitate before calling anyone "wet" in RL, here in the UK, it is a tad perjorative!  ..

Is is an old IT jargon from the early days of cognitive science and artificial intelligence: Hardware - Software - Wetware.

Where wetware refers to the human brain.

  13. To my knowledge you cannot read content of nested objects (objects with objects), the object has to be rezzed i order to examine its content with LSL.

The must easy way to make setup of you advanced sign post is to use notecard setup together with the landmarks, textures etc for each. Most simple by telling the users, they must provide in groups of same numbers. If no NC or no present, define a token or string to represent this. Your end user just drag LM, textures etc into the sign post and update the NC accordingly. Simple example:

    [LM]
    The Rain Forrest
    [texture]
    00000000-0000-0000-0000-000000000000
    [nc]
    Welcome To The Rain Forrest
    [present]
    Umbrella
