  1. I'm playing something of a nerd kid. I'm always looking to meet other kids, but I do have a bunch of adult friends too. Drop me a line. HarrisonMcKenzie Resident.
  2. Hi! I'm pretty new too, but I've been picking things up quick. I can help you out with some things if you want. Drop me a line: HarrisonMcKenzie Resident.
  3. No, my Lego is a toy, and the company does have a boardgame line. You can also :play Lego" just like you can "play Second Life."
  4. I'm playing an SL-shape kid avatar (age 11, so no toddler stuff) and recent bought a really good pair of mesh feet. I just love the feat. but I can't find any socks that fit. Everything I find is scaled for adults, no modify, for specific mesh avatars, or system/texture socks. Can anyone point me in the right direction or wanna take the job? I've searched MP high and low and I'm not really having any luck.
  5. Does that mean that Minecraft isn't a game? It doesn't have a central goal, and you can go the entire time without fighting a monster. What about Star Wars Galaxies? It's also a sandbox virtual experience with almost an entirly user-content generated economy. Plus you can do whatever you want in it, from fighting monsters to dancing or being a doctor for a living.
  6. This has me thinking about a Free Comic Book Day sort of approach. You'd never be able to do a vendor wide sale or discount everything, but a X annual, planned marketing day to give away free quality items would go over quite well. I was fortunate to find some really good non-demo clothing items from a certain seller, and I now sing their name from the clouds. And that's really what events like Free Comic Book Day are about - getting people interested in your product. Now mix that with some performances and other events, and I think we'd have something really interesting.
  7. I'm just starting to explore content creation, and I wouldn't be opposed to looking into integrating Life HUD more. I am noticing a trend of lots of restrictions in things, and I'm approaching content creation more openly. That being said, I know very little about Life HUD, so ther's that.
  8. As others have noted, it's really an issue with what the user base is creating. I'm playing a 1.8m tall child avatar, and I've been in buildings where I can't see over the counter. If the default avatars are set to have human proportions, it's more likely that content creators will build to that scale. On a related note, having some built in proportion aids would be a god send. Creationg properly proportioned avatars is a nightmare, and I'm always seeing super tall people running around with baby T-Rex arms and other unnatural features. It should be noted that doing this does not mean that creativity will be stifled. If people want to play a 20 foot tale character, more power to them. Smae with those who want to use very small avatars. Defining real world-like proportions and scales doesn't mean that you cannot build or do anything you want; it just sets the baseline for those who want a more realistic experience for themselves.
  9. Here's an option that might be worth considering. You could create your alt as a separate outfit (or several outfits), using completely different genders, shapes, and wardrobe. And I've read that there is a kind of script that some roleplayers use called a titler, which places custom text above your name. Between a titler displaying an alternate name and some different avatar outfits, you can make an alt without having two accounts (thus charing inventory and not needing multiple logins). There would be some obvious drawbacks to this, but it's a quick and dirty way to pull it off.
  10. So how do I go about doing this then? Because the built-in Adobe Collada plugin generates a billion unhelpful errors and doesn't work.
  11. I'm looking at the GitHub download page, and..... source code is of absolutely no use to me. And all of the documentation is also of no use, since not of the files or procedures exist. I'm trying to export from either Maya or 3DS Max, but the documentation for OpenCollada is complete garbage, and i wasn't able to find anything about installation here, on YouTube, or via Google. Could someone please explain how to do this?
  12. Hello. I am ridiculously new as well, but I can help you out with as much as I know. And I'm also looking for people to play and explore with. When do you usually play?
  13. Jenni Darkwatch wrote: Thanks for the helpful pointers, Qie. I do not plan on using it for anything other than voice, which I think makes A2DP irrelevant for my purpose? Most headsets seem to have it though. Right now I'm using a Logitech wired behind-the-head headset which works well and sounds well, but it makes my ears hurt after a couple hours. I'm hoping a bluetooth headset would ease that, and of course portability would be much better. I would not be tethered to the desk as long as range is halfway decent. You definately want an A2DP headset. A2DP allows you to pass audio through it to the device of choice and thus use it as a speaker and microphone. Cheaper or older bluetooth headsets do not have this, and can only be used with a phone to take calls. Most headsets now have A2DP (if they say anything about using Skype or listening to music, it uses A2DP), though you will want to be sure, since a non-A2DP headset will not work for what you want to do. As for brands, I bought a Jabra headset from a computer store some time ago for online gaming. As Qie mentions, I can only get 3-4 hours of continuous use out of it and could really only be 10 or 20 feet from my computer before the signal quickly degraded, so you really will need to weigh your play time against your desire for portability. Most headsets not come with multiple earpieces so you can find the most comfortable one, though I still have to switch ears every hour or two (same with earbud headphones, my ears don't like foreign materials). There are also (usually more expensive) over the ear models which hook around your ear and sit ontop of it instead of resting inside of it. I hope that helps you out.
