  1. Sure. I’d love to see the least that makes ‘no one ever’ sound even remotely true.
  2. I’m sure you didn’t mean it this way, but because the first history lesson most people learn about the Jews is the Haulocaust, this came out to me really messed up.
  3. I don't care what 'normal' height is anymore. I am 59" irl and in SL too. I actually only lowered my height from the 'average' recently, and I've been in SL off and on for years. I was too scared of the kid stuff... but honestly, I don't go to adult sims anyway. And the taller builds don't bother me too much ... well, because I'm 4'11 irl, so I'm used to everything being to tall. My height makes me unique irl, and it always has just felt wrong to be average height in SL.
  4. This is my home in Lionheart, a residential sim. It has a covenant, so you can be sure of that neighborhood feel. I'd let you room with me... but... if you check out my place, you might notice it's a treeehouse, so not much room to decorate. I'm still working on landscaping. That said, there are some really nice parcels next to me up for rent. This is my favorite little part of Lionheart because of the water view on both sides, so these parcels usually don't last long. http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Lionheart Simba/218/195/27
  5. This reminds me of a video clip I saw recently of a white woman trying to join a BLM protest with her mixed child. She was also told to leave because she was white. It's a really interesting dynamic ... this line between being an "ally" and being the problem.
  6. The tables won't 'turn' until they are a minority in Government. Even if the mass majority of citizens were non white, you'd still have to consider the power positions. My city is predominantly black and yet whites still make up most of the government positions and make more money than African Americans in general here.
  7. I guess it depends on how people use the forums. I use the 'unread' posts link and it pops up there just fine every time there is a reply.
  8. So... yeah... I moved to the South and felt really alone as an Atheist, so I help create an Atheist meetup that now has almost 200 members and has been around for six years. So, I see a lot of different types of nonbelievers. I just want to say to believers here to please not let the speak for all nonbelievers. This just makes me /smh.
  9. Because moving doesn't imply they are distasteful.... it means they are in the wrong category.
  10. So, what I'm gathering, is that you read a lot of far spectrum stuff. Far faaaaaar right stuff and far, faaaaar left stuff. Maybe you should recognise that those make up the minority of opinion and stick out for their exceptionally sensational attitude. Most people do not stand on the complete far right or left. Preferential breeding? By who? Who do you think is preferentially breeding out the white race? Because it sure isn't white people. I don't have the statistics in front of me, but I'm fairly certain it is very common to marry within your own ethnicity.
  11. I offered to come in another day. The receptionist on the phone said someone cancelled at X time that day, so they'd be more than happy to see me. Edit: I just needed to see them in the month of December, not necessarily that day.
  12. I think the especially insidious thing about this is that it isn't hard to guess why someone doesn't approve of you being gay -- religious reasons usually. Whenever I think of this cake thing, I think that the person isn't just saying "I don't approve of gays" but "God doesn't approve of you!" And that just seems especially hurtful.
  13. No, that's not it. I arrived two hours before closing. The staff was super friendly with me, but they basically saw every single person besides me first. I had actually called that day to let them know I couldn't make the original scheduled time and I offered to book another day .. it was their suggestion for me to come in at the time I did. And by the time they saw me, doors were locked, lights were going off, and I was given maybe two minutes in the exam chair before I was sent off with a completely wrong contact trial prescription.
  14. I'm positive it wasn't me. I might sound like a jerk online, but irl everyone loves me <3
  15. I've always been extremely empathetic. It's not something I've ever had to work for. I've been with my husband for 15 years, and empathy does not come easy to him. He has told me many times that much of the progress he's made in the empathy department is from learning it from me. He still struggles, but I do see improvement.
  16. I had an experience a couple of weeks ago that had me wondering if I was experiencing prejudice (which is rare to consider, since I am white.) I made an appointment with an eyedoctor to use my benefits before the end of the year. Most places are fully booked in December because everyone is doing the same thing. So without much research, I just called every office I could find until someone had an opening. It wasn't until I hit the waiting room that I realized that I was in a predominantly poor, black neighborhood. The place was packed and I was the only white person there for over two hours. I had exceptionally crappy service, but I'm not crying over it. 1. I don't know if it had anything to do with my race and 2. Even if it did, it was a valuable experience to try to put myself in the shoes of people who face real discrimination based on their skin color everyday.
  17. Tangent, but there is biological things that go into empathy. I personally believe some folks simply are neurologically unable to show a certain degree of empathy. I think it's a scale... and some barely land on it at all. This might be wishful thinking on my part, because if they aren't biologically capable of experiencing true empathy, the alternative is that they are choosing not to.
