  1. The Adult listings for sex for sale do not follow the SL Event listing rules. You seem to be avoiding that issue. I have suggested people looking for real events, not 24/7 escort, Cam/phone sex and 24/7 BJ's only check off the G and M ratings, about a dozen times already in the past month. That is using the filters. Most here don't agree with that, claiming their music club on an Adult sim would be missed. And again, most of the Adult listings are not SL Events - as defined by Linden Lab. They belong in Classified Ads. So why is LL refusing to enforce their own rules, which would basically eliminate the SL Event spam? The reason seems obvious - they can now charge $50/event for the non-events - more income, so ignore their own rules. If 75% of all event listings are really non-events, well that's a tidy amount of income for someone, about $2500 USD/mo. Enough to cover 1/2 the cost of a San Francisco 1 bedroom flat.
  2. For the skimmers who skip the fine print, I made it larger! An event is defined as a special group activity that is led by a host on land owned either by the host or by a group the host belongs to. Examples include discussions, group meetings, hosted dances, classes, tours, and competitions. An event is framed by a beginning and an end time. Thus '24hr Sales' are not events. The 'Commercial' category was created for the purpose of grand openings, demonstrations, product launches etc. Each of these types of events should have a clear beginning and end time attached. Otherwise, they belong in the Second Life Classifieds, not the Events calendar. Posting events that are simply advertisements will not be acceptable. The use of alts to post more than 15 events per day will not be permitted either. The event descriptions need to conform to General guidelines, consistent with the overall Second Life website policy - so no overt sex descriptions; sex for money, sex chat, simulated sex, strong violence, or anything else broadly offensive. Moderate events must be listed as Moderate, and held in M-rated sims. SPAM (multiple events posted in a single day that do not comply with the rules above) WILL NOT BE TOLERATED and will be SUBJECT TO DISCIPLINARY ACTION. Please do not use the Events calendar in any way which would inhibit its usefulness to the community at large. Failure to follow these guidelines may result in a SUSPENSION OF YOUR ACCOUNT.
  3. Not according to the SL Events own rules. I see four legitimate events listed out of 15 on that page. "BJs |ALL DAY| Our gems are ready to wrap your lips around you, ***** give them..." is NOT an event in my opinion, OR in SL's opinion. Read the posting rules below and tell me again how many events are violating SL's rules. What is apparent is SL is not enforcing their own rules, and the extra charges are just extra pocket change for them, that are doing nothing to stop the spam. SL Event posting rules quoted exactly: Community: Events Event Posting Rules Please read and agree to these event posting rules before posting an event. Be sure to click the "I Agree" button below to continue. PLEASE NOTE: Advertisements for commercial products or services will be deleted from the events calendar. Repeated misuse of the event posting system for this purpose may lead to disciplinary action against the poster's account. See more details on this policy below. You may currently post up to 15 events per day (including event edits). In addition, your friends will now be able to post events on a parcel that you own. However, you must set that parcel to show up in Find Places as a Hangout. If your parcel is not set up as a Hangout, the parcel will not be available to your friends, but will continue to be subject to other availability rules. To further clarify, you may post an event on a parcel if: You personally own the parcel and it is at least 512 square meters in size. The parcel is owned by a group that you are an owner of, or that you have the 'host events' ability for, and is at least 512 square meters. The parcel is in a private island that you are on the access list of, and is at least 512 square meters. The parcel belongs to Governor Linden and is set to show in Search Places as a Hangout. The parcel belongs to a friend, it is set to show in Search Places as a Hangout, and is at least 512 square meters. 4. The SL Events Calendar has a Search engine. It works just fine - learn to use it. The new listing charges have not changed unfiltered SL Events one iota. Here is tonight's "entertainment" category: And still 21 pages to page through, mostly sex spam.
  5. Linden Realms was closed on November 18, 2019. Still down six weeks later. Hard to believe the Moles are working on it. Will it be back sometime in 2020?
  6. SL is not clearing out the calendar. Where did you ever get that idea? SL Events is as cluttered with sex clubs as ever. Nearly everyone posting here seems to know nothing about SL Events. It's still 80% sex spam, and not legit events because the extra charges mean nothing to the owners of the sex joints. Turn Off the adult category and you will see the real events, as always.
  7. Are you one of Ebbe's Alts? I am sure he can afford $100/yr for an alt on his salary. Apparently you think SL should be an Elite world for only the wealthy. Or are you trolling us, and work for the competition?
  8. That almost looks like a mistake, by someone that doesn't know the difference between the Linden Portal Park and the Linden Realms. The description when you click Linden Realms is clearly for the portals, not just the Realms. The Realms, the game, has been deleted from the actual list of games recently. Hopefully because they don't want newbies to find the Closed for Repair sign, and they intend to relist the Realms game under Destination Games if it opens again. The conversion from the old Realms, then the fire story, and finally the newly rebuilt game with new rules, was announced last year. There was even "secret" build regions (12 regions/realm) the moles had been working on for a few months, with lots of hints. When was the Realms simply closed for repairs, with no advanced notice, no story or information why, tight lipped Moles and Lindens, and no estimated date for reopening? Must have been before my time. It this "repair" is to add a wearable HUD like in PaleoQuest, then the Realms will be unplayable. No running, no jumping, no falling or you get threats that they will ban your SL account for illegal activities and threaten to prosecute you in RL for fraud. Such a friendly welcoming game for new players! Making false accusations to players that plague the PaleoQuest HUD will just drive new people out of SL. Brilliant marketing - let's threaten new players, so they hate and fear us. Then ask them to become Premium members.
  9. All I see are two listings for the Linden Portal Parks. Nothing about the Realms there. They just used the Linden Realms room door as the portal park cover shot, the same as before. Each game or Experience in the Portal park has it's own listing, such as Horizons, PaleoQuest, The Cornfield, etc, but Linden Realms listing as a game has been removed. Will the Realms return by next year? Beginning to have my doubts. The bean counters say it's a loss to LL. Start charging to play the Realms, and it would be repaired in a hour. Or they could make it a Premium member game only. That should cut the number of players by 95% and make it another profit center. Yea that's the ticket.
  10. 21 days and counting, Linden Realms has been "Closed for Repairs". Ask any Linden or Mole about this and they get testy - apparently the real reason is a sore point for them. File a ticket and Support acknowledges the Realms is closed, hardly useful information there. I tried PaleoQuest in the meantime. If you think a HUD that gives you 100% false positives and keeps returning you to the starting point is fun, you will love this game. The same PaleoQuest problems reported here last September 2018 are still present. At least the Realms allowed you to play and complete the Quests most of the time, without spending days wasting time because of the constant false accusations you get in Paleoquest for flying, running, wearing an illegal hud, and cheating. That is basically the PaleoQuest game, seeing how long you will put up with false accusations by the poorly scripted Linden HUD before you give up as not being worth your time.
  11. You run a smaller tighter business and with no managers you are substituting your own time to save overhead. An apples and oranges difference here, but his club still works - and I doubt the SL Events makes a bit of difference in it's success. First of all, we run about 5 Live events/month, not week. This is a DJ club that brings in our regular house live performers for one day on a weekend, plus Live events for major holidays. Sometimes we have 2 one hour lives/weekend, and some weeks none at all. I think it averages out to about 5 Live acts/MONTH, actually, although in December January we might have 10 Live, to celebrate Christmas and New Years. All the performers discount their fees because so many started their careers at our club, and have a connection to the staff and owners. The club sim is a Full Private Region, 30K LI - with multiple levels from land/sea for homes, shops, and roleplay, plus shops and apts in the city sky platform around the club, and skyboxes and roleplay platforms up to 4000m. We are more than just a music club on a budget. The owner must employ staff managers, since he has a RL family, and full-time job that requires frequent travel. Breaking even on his entire operation is all he wants to do. We do not pay DJ's or hosts - everyone works for 100% tips only. This self selects our DJ and hostess staff - you must be good enough to work for tips only. Our average DJ has 10 years of experience or more, including many who started when the club first opened. I agree with the rest of your comments, and will see if the limited SL event change makes any difference. Most of our patrons are old, 3000 days and older - and probably show up because that's what they have always done. The downside is eventually they will die or leave SL for the nursing homes. But by then, I won't care either.
  12. You are talking about Group Notices and Group chat postings here, not SL Events - where only one post per event is allowed (but not enforced). We restrict our hostesses to post one club Group Notice/ hour, or 2 for a 2 hr event, the initial and half-time. Many patrons are not logged in for the first notice, and it's normal for offline notices to be capped, so they don't see any notice unless a 1/2 time notice is sent. Of course if the sim crashes during an event, you can post when the sim comes back up to please come back everyone that crashed out.
  13. The owner at my club must think it is, since to reduce this added expense he has directed the staff event poster to post one combo event per day. There are about 42 events/week (12 hrs of active events/day), which if posted individually just once per event would cost around 9000 $L/month extra. He also pays a salary to two staff managers, pays for a Live singer event 5 times/month at about 2500 $L/event, and of course pays the full sim tier for a private island. With the shop and apartment rentals, and venue tip jars he is lucky for the club to break even each month. Adding another $36 USD expense/month would mean he operates at a loss. His club has been operating continuously in SL for eleven years, with the same owner and manager, and much of the same staff, and has never shut down or even moved location. Not many music venues can claim that - so it's possible he knows what he is doing. I disagree with his cost saving decision of one combo event/day for 6 performers, because one can no longer search for a performer by name, and the one event/day is posted around 2pm slt. By the evening hours, the event posting will no longer show up in a daily ongoing list in the Nightlife listing. Most event seekers only check ongoing listings, which with the multiple page listings, hide the earlier combo event post. Since events are sorted by date and time, nobody will page backwards to find a future event in real time. That is not intuitive, and was not needed before the fees and combo postings started this week.
  14. Same thing I suggested, and it would not require extra fees either. Charging will cause non sex M-rated music/dance clubs to combine all events into one event per day. This is NOT doing it right if you want to search for a particular artist or DJ. The artist/performer/DJ names are NOT listed in the combo event name. Therefore there is no way to search for them. You have to page through all the venues looking for the one a day listing, open that listing, and see if who you are searching for is there. Do this for every day there is a listing until you find your artist. This is big step backward, vs present method: Enter artist name in Search box and instantly see all venues and times they are playing. 10 secs vs 10 mins searching through combo listings. You should also use the Firestorm in-viewer search. The LL web based search lists 15 events/page, and does NOT list all the details of the event (unless you open another web page for that event - ugh). And yes you have to page forever to find an event unless you use Search. But Search tells you nothing about the actual event anymore for a combo posting. There is not enough room to list the details for all six events in one event listing. The original V1 Search got it right, and it is still in Firestorm and Singularity. But nobody seems to know this or care. And as most here admit, they have not used SL Events for years, and do not know how to use it or where to find the best display format.
  15. Use the Search filters (Rating, Category, and Keywords) and it won't be a mess. Use the Firestorm viewer SL Events and NOT the horrible web search. The fee will not reduce the Adult sex spam at all. The new fees have already made it impossible to find performers and artists, when the club has reduced their listing to one composite event listing/day - for 12 hours of events. This only hurts the performers and the venues that host them. I am so tired of hearing how charging a fee will improve anything. That is simply false hope, and that is for the record too.
  16. If you join a venue's group, you won't be using SL Events for that venue. So from your argument, SL should simply close down the Events listing entirely. Everyone here claims they don't know what they are looking for in Events, and all they see is spam. When you use Google Search, do you have any idea what keywords you want to search with? SL Events should be used by those looking for an event they do not know about, or finding where a performer will be that day. It's ridiculous to think everyone has enough groups for every DJ, club, performer, clothing shops, sales events, social groups, etc. If you are looking for a new artist, or performer, or music venue, you will not already be in their group, will you?
  17. They didn't "make" $40 from the service, since they paid $99 for the service. But if you insist this is a real business, then list $99 as a business expense, and $40 as income. Your net business income is negative $55, which you should claim as a business deduction for tax purposes. The $99 is a service fee, with debatable value. Business fees are deductible. Not many businesses would survive spending $99 for every $40 earned.
  18. Same old apologists here - move the Adult sex crap to it's own Category. Learn to use Categories and Search. There is no spam if you know what you are doing. There is already a long thread about this - so this one will soon be closed. The only result of this extra fee so far is to make it MORE difficult to find a performer or DJ Event!
  19. You paid $99 and got some of it back. That's not really income. And it's not a business. LL won't generate a 1099 for $40/yr stipend refund on your premium. If you get any 1099 and you are required to file income tax because you are above the minimum for filing a return, then you should add any 1099 income since the IRS also gets the same 1099 in their files. And subtract any business expenses from that income. If I deposit $100 into SL, and then take back $90 as a Process Credit into pay pal, that sure isn't income for me. It is income for Linden Labs though, the 10% in processing fees they collected for taking and returning my money.
  20. Heh, I wasn't thinking of you being anti-DJ. There are others posting here that I was thinking of, but you can't mention names here without a timeout for personal attacks. I also added more to my post not related to your Premium member humor, just venting my frustration with some other comments in this topic. The DJ's and hostesses have also been told they can not post their own events now in this club, because it would upset the format, or something. I expect not everyone will bend over to this new rule.
  21. Highly unlikely this is the case. The only club owners that would need Premium are those that purchased land on the mainland. You don't need Premium to rent land anywhere, or to rent on any private region from a land baron, or to purchase a private island region from Linden Lab. Most club owners will absorb the costs from their venue tip jars, and probably will cut down posting for every event. That means a DJ or artist will not be searchable in Events, since Search only looks for words in the Event Name. This will cause unending joy to those here that think DJ's do not hold real events, that all clubs suck, and that there are only really 6 events/day in all of Second Life. In other words the hermits who never use SL Events in the first place. One of the clubs I go to has decided to only post one Event per day, listing all of the actual events in one Event , entirely to save more than one $50L/Event per day. There will be no performer or DJ name in the Event name, meaning you can not search for a particular performer. Also this one daily event will roll off the list later in the day, making events after around 6pm SLT not visible. Few are going to set the date back, or scroll back in past time to find an upcoming event. Again, joyous news to all the club and DJ haters in this forum.
  22. They didn't waste any time adding the fees for SL Event postings. So now, according to LL, all the "spam" will go away. And the moon is made of green cheese. From the Create a new event web page: "Create a new event At the Basic subscription level, the fee for creating an event is L$50. At the Premium level, the fee is only L$10. Learn more about Premium or upgrade now. I understand that my account will be charged L$50 for each event I create" Just another way to get that Premium upfront cash.
  23. I think the Status page is automated with canned messages, and is not updated when there are changes late in the day. It always runs behind real-time. The techs that actually restart regions are not the same that post the Status reports. They probably quit at 5pm and hit the local bars. I am on the Main Channel. When I posted above my sim monitor was still reading 6 days, because my last restart was at 06:37 SLT on Nov 26, Tuesday. This free sim monitor is rather useful - Region Performance Monitor Version 1.04 - Search on MP. It is a free service from Dream Seeker Estates but works for any land. 24. Calleta is really screwed up. Physics Time is way too high when the scripts run fall to 1%. Some animesh object caught in a wall or hole? I see Physics time as high at 16 ms when Dilation drops to 0.50.
