  1. Promoting events is real hard in SL as there is no great working way to communicate. To be able to promote your event you yourself have to become a person with many contacts and followers. 1) Twitter. many SL users use twitter or Plurk. Join these and use the #SL #Secondlife hashtags to get it out there. Again this only really works if you have quite a few following you to retweet your event. 2) SL events Guide. Im not sure who actually uses it, i know i 've never really got to the SL users guide to look for an event. But some do. 3) Community Group Chat. If it works Use group chat and plan the message for moments when there are many in the group online. Group notices if you have permission to send notices often get lost in Viewer2's poor UI. 4) Get high profile people who have many friends to come along. They can sometimes bring their friends and followers. I would like to see a totally revamped friends communication framework that allows a more twitteresque approach to notices and sharing events, places and content. Something like THIS
  2. In the past Private Island Landlords bought Full sims with the intent to make costs back via rentals of Parcels for private land and shopping space. I have witnessed across many Regions amongst my friends that shop space rentals are in decline as is interest in renting land for homes. I have a few ideas of why this is. 1) Market Place is taking away the need to have an inworld shop. 2) Linden Homes are out pricing private region land. This is leaving us with an inability to sustain the Private Island Tier. Rodvik has said there are no plans to change the pricing structure so what are possible ways to counter this changed economy?
  3. I dont think inworld shops will ever be able to combat the convenience of market place and i think unless something changes we are going to see a lot private regions disappear soon as a result.
  4. A favourite Club of mine is the Vortex Club which has been around for 5 years now. Clubs are a one stop social get together, every community has one i like this club simply because all my friends go there and its been around so long that its the familiarity of the place that makes me feel welcomed.
  5. You can check out the Second Childhood Network which lists Child Avatar & Family RP friendly places. Inworld the SC network is available as a kiosk located at all the places listed and more are being added every month! The Second Childhood Network
  6. Another recent video of [engrama] performing at the John King Pirate Tavern in Escapades. This time with a live video stream of their real world selves. A very memorable evening had by all i think.
  7. @ Squashy, as far as me and the squid owner could tell, because it was so close to the sim boarder it would sometime **bleep** over into my sim. But instead of actually crossing, it would get propelled at high speed across my sim :-p. What actually causes 'Sim border squid flinging' or 'SBQF' is beyond my understanding.
  8. I just found another picture of a STRANGE instance in Second Life. This dates back to November 2006 when logins were turned off for a while , then when switched back on everyone tried to login at the same time at the same place causing a massive MASH UP of avatars that would not rez properly and melded together at the teleport portal. Somewhere in that pile of rezzing Limbs is my younger brother. Apparently no one could move, ah the good old days :-P
  9. OK so this thread is about freaky things that happen to you in SL which only later get explained, OR DONT! The video below shows a mystery that i only figured out an explanation for today. I thought i was going mad seeing strange shadows zipping past me. I also remember back in 2007 the Mystery of the PRIM HAIR OF DEATH, which if anyone touched it they would CRASH. It had mysteriously appeared as if left by someone. No one could pic it up, no one could return it. In the end the sim owner put a special box around it and put up warning signs. That one was never explained, or at least i never heard the explanation. Has anyone else stumbled across strange unexplained mysterious events in Second Life?
  10. [engrama] is an Indie band who play LIVE into the virtual world with no pre recordings. The drum and guitar band slowly melts into the world with their moody and atmospheric soundscapes. Drawing from influences like Mogwai, Sigur Ros, and the tamer side of Sonic Youth,. Their compositions slowly tumble and roll into a cerebral playground, full of shadows and flickers of colour so subtle they appear as if in the corner of the eye. A taster of their great sound can be seen in this vid   Check out more of their music on Bandcamp! *edited for advertising*
  11. For the most part yes, but it would not have been possible if it were not for the rest of the Gang, so it's their island too. With out their support Goony island would have gone the way of 'Numbakulla' ages ago. It is also my favourite destination and i love talking about it. :smileyvery-happy:
  12. Here i have a small documentary about Escapades island. An island that wants nothing more than people to have a good time... and pay the high priced tier. :-p The place used to be known as Goony Island and before that Loki island. Over the years it has grown and grown until hit by price hikes and sim restrictions. Now it has developed into a full SIM region so that more newer ideas for fun can be created. Even though predominantly child avatar inhabited, it's a place where anyone can have an adventure and explore. http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Escapades/123/163/24/

  14. LOL they are also spamming the 'ANSWERS' area, ironically in the Abuse & Griefing category
  15. Well seeing as this thread will soon hopefully be irrelevant, you cant have a spam thread without a bit of Python. WARNING: This video was supposed to lighten ones spirits, not exacerbate the situation.
  16. I'm sure Linden Lab are fully prepared for this sort of Scenario. You just wait and see, once the forum moderator is back from their weekend, ZAP it'll all be cleared up within a week or two..... or three. :smileyvery-happy:
  17. For me, i have been going to the Vortex club EVERY week for FIVE YEARS. It's like the hub for my friends in second life. We set our avatars to dance and then just chat & catch up on whats happening in SL or with the Lab while listening to music played by our DJ friends. At the heart of every community in SL is a Club of some sort http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Whippersnapper/66/131/21/
  18. Tateru blogged about this bug and how long it's taken Linden Lab to become aware of it. I also get it in the official Viewer2. luckily i wear sculpty shorts so i still look fashionable .

  20. It happens randomly when i am walking along. Suddenly i can not stop and i just keep walking for ages not able to control or stop. Eventually i will get control back but sometimes i end up in a corner of some place and cant move. What did i do wrong?
  21. I've typed in my Bio and set my picture but after a week or so it all gets wiped. What am i doing wrong, am i clicking something i should not?
  22. If Tateru Nino latest blog post is anything to go by, making a Jira bug report does not necessarily mean the Lindens will know about it.
  23. My profile has been wiped a total of 6 times also. I now dont bother writing my Bio, and a lot of people i meet on my Island do not have any bio or pic so i guess it's quite wide spread. Perhaps they should go back into beta.
  24. Interesting how awesome some peoples graphics are This is one of my fave pics of my avatar, simply the colours and the laid back casual composition. Loki when he's at his most relaxed
  25. When i open a group chat box window and type a message, i get a pop up saying it could not connect to the group. What am i doing wrong?
