  1. Is it possible to Rig and object in Blender 2.5? if so how? sll tutorials use 2.4x
  2. Thanx now i have completed Goal two It's all pretty basic and not detailed but im trying to learn the workflow rather than perfect things at the moment. I used the tutorials & to create a UV map to apply a texture to.It was interesting having to consider where to place 'seams' before unwrapping the UVmap. Was like pulling the skin off a rabbit. I exported as a collada file then imported into photoshops 3D editing mode to texture the UV map like i normally would with a sculpty. Then i uploaded the collada file to SL and uploaded the texture separately. Rezzing the 3Dmesh of the costume i then simply dropped the texture on the costume like you would a normal prim object. Again thanks for the tweets and forum replys. Next Goal is to rig the Mesh Costume to my avatar. Any good video tutorials or forum posts recommended for learning how to Rig an object to an avatar?
  3. Thanx everyone for the support. I decided to put the Troll on hold and started a new project, to make a wolf costume inspired by where the wild things are. The goasl of this will include: 1. modeling from scratch the costume 2. creating a UV texture 3. Rigging to an avatar Today i made the costume and uploaded a test. Was quite pleased with it as the cost came to only 2 prims meaning i can probably ad a bit more detail. I noticed there is now an upload wizard which i think is an awesome idea. Next is to texture this model. Hopefully i will figure this out as the Troll seemed impossible to texture. Any good tutorials for getting to grips with UV mapping/texturing would be a great help. I'm used to texturing sculptys in Photoshop extended edition.
  4. hehe this reminds me of when i got my new island. I wanted it to be placed to the south of my friends island. First they placed it to the west, then to the North before finally being placed to the south. The Map being slow to update showed my island 3 times.
  5. Well they left, so i guess not very well. Although they may have left because they were perusing greater ideas that they could not do in SL Grid.
  6. Thanks for the ideas. Obviously land rental is still the best way to make tier for the land But I'm curious to know if anyone has successfully Encouraged spending from visitors. People will not need shops once LL release direct delivery from inventory so I'm reluctant to rely on shopping areas. Paying for an experience is interesting idea that needs testing. would you mind visiting a place shown on destination guide to then have to pay L$100 to go inside the haunted house or enchanted forest? Has anyone got an example of this sort of thing working in SL?
  7. I own a private island and I'm pleased that I get a nice amount of traffic at the moment, but I'm wondering if other private land owners have any good ideas or models for encouraging visitors to spend while on my island?
  8. AND ALSO try the Mesh Beta Viewer, for some reason that it seems to be completely different to the official viewer. and check out this JIRA BUG report
  9. This is frightening news as i was hoping upgrading to a new Macbook Pro would improve my SL experience. You could try the latest Development builds of Viewer2 This sounds like a problem i would stumble upon when enabling some of the higher graphics features such as occlusion & shadows. Id be stuck unable to access anything cos the screen would freeze and fragment as if it had taken a screen grab and distorted when ever i moved the mouse across it. Only way to fix it was to dumb the cache and settings and start again on lower settings. Also try it without OpenGL buffering and see if that does anything. Please keep us informed of your findings as i am really interested to know how well SL works on the new macs
  10. My Personal thoughts are that the concurrency is related to the changing face of communication within SL. Alot of the inworld communicating has moved out to things such as facebook, twitter and blogs. What Linden Lab could try and do to reverse this trend is to rework the way we communicate and share our experiences of SL, Give us more reason to be IN second Life.
  11. Thanx everyone for you support and hints. I indeed needed to click emulate 3 button mouse in prefs shame 3Dconnexion 3D mouse is not yet supported in the new 2.5 blender would make things far quicker for me. I have been messing about and built a troll. So many options to consider before and during upload, it's a wonder how you know if its you, the 3D app or Second life that causes issues. I realise now that my attempt at building a troll by making separate objects then merging them probably is classed as being 'inefficient'. In the end the prim cost was the same if i had made it out of sculpties. The problem with building from multiple objects is that a lot of cost probably gets used up by the overlapping geometry of the objects that you dont get to see. Shame there is no magic key in Blender to get rid of hidden Geometry. My next Troll will be far superior!
  12. Are there alternatives? does mesh bring any new options for this or are we stuck with static mesh objects?
  13. I've seen Some examples of animated mesh objects on YouTube. That's not mesh rigged and worn on an avatar but separate objects that animate. Is this possible, if so how? Or was it most likely UUID flipping?
  14. Yeahy so i made a Mesh object. Blender is a bit dumb, i mean i could not figure out how to look around the object i was working cos i don't have a Middle Mouse button. But apart from the 3D program all i needed to do was end up with a .dae file which the Mesh viewer uploaded. In the upload window there was a VAST array of options that made no sense to me what so ever, but ignoring them did not stop my object from uploading WOOT.
  15. I am wondering if it is yet possible from posting the question on this forum for ME a MAC user with 5 years experience in building using prims, to IN 1 DAY create a mesh object in SL? The question is, whats the quickest easiest way for a mac user to make a mesh object? this was originally a question and is now my continuing adventures step by step creating Mesh objects for SL...
  16. Thanx, but i need the process to be far more simpler than that. The Scenario im envisioning is this... A Newb visits my island in BASIC VIEWER, so has no money nor do they have an inventory. Sp they can not buy anything and they can not drag something from inventory. SO im looking for a way to give my visitors an Object that will enrich their experience of my island. To do this i need to be able to give them by a simple click an item that will request to be attached automatically because they cant attach from inventory. Is this at all possible via a script?
  17. Main issue with the WASDEC approach is that holding down the mouse does not actually override the WASDEC keys, so when my sword swipes, i still move forward. Is this because i've scripted something wrong or, is this just the accepted side effect?
  18. Thank you everyone for your tips and advice :-) it does seem impossible to avoid over complicated key pressing to achieve a simple action. I'll experiment.
  19. Is there a way to have an item automatically request to be worn as it is given as a gift?... ie: guy clicks on box, box give him free hat, free hat requests to be warn.
  20. I'm not much of a scripter. I'm trying to make a weapon that can smash open objects to get prizes. Im using a melee weapons script I found that takes control of movement keys. So you have to hold down mousse button then click forward key or left, right and back. My question is wether it's possible to allocate a different key, say the key 'Z' to activate/control weapon activation? I find it rather cumbersome to have to hold down the mouse button and use direction keys. has anyone developed something simpler?
  21. Im curious to know what are the major reasons for a private Sim being so much more expensive than a mainland Sim. What justifies such a difference in price?
  22. This one dates back to Last year int he Steampunk Town Of New Babbage. They Have a system of trams that ferry visitors around the town, BUT rumours are rife that these trams try to harm their passengers by derailing and driving headlong into the canals. I was working on refurbishing my shop last year when i spotted in the distance something casually flying past in the sky. At first i thought it was a new type of airship, but on closer inspection of photographic evidence and some whizzy CSI enhancement it was revealed to be a Tram. Hopefully no one was onboard when it decided to take flight.
  23. After discussing Basic Viewer in another thread, I and another resident got on the topic of first day experiences. I thought it would be interesting to see how everyone spent their first day in SL. How did you find it, what did you do was it similar to anyone else's first days? To start off my first day as i remember it is as follows... I was browsing the apple downloads pages when i came across a feature about SL. I down loaded the viewer and logged in not really knowing what it was about. I half made an avatar, talked to a parrot, learnt how to fly then teleported to the main grid. That first teleport i remember blew my mind open because i realised then that orientation island was just one tiny place in second life :). I cant remember where i ended up. I was on a roof of some building where i set forth to design my avatar working out the editing controls (the resulting avatar has hardly changed in shape since 2006). I finished the day by discovering a dance club where friendly people talked to me and i pole danced. The sheer scale of exploration in SL had me hooked from there. It wasn't until a week later that i discovered building with prims.
