you can't claim mainland, you'll have to buy it. You only have a free tier, not the purchace price.
If you and your family want to buy land that is joined you can donate your tier levels to the group and use the 10% group bonus. After doing that buy a piece of land that falls into the joined tier level. Or if you want to buy individual parcels you have to find a set of parcels for sale in the same region, that might get more difficult.

You, as group, or individual can also request LL to sell abandoned land to you, as one or divided. If divided, i think you'd have to send all a support request for that because multiple people are involved. If it's a joined group one could do it for a big parcel.

The "Group-owned land" knowledge base article might help.

At the risk of repeating stuff you may already know: To own a parcel of Mainland, whether by group or individual

  • the land itself must come into possession of the owner (which generally means buying it from its former owner or from Linden Lab at auction), and
  • that owner must have sufficient "tier" such as the 2,048 m² that comes with a Premium Plus account, or additional amounts paid for monthly. For a group to own land, then, its members must not only arrange for land to come into the group's possession, but also contribute enough tier for the group to be allowed to own all that land.

The good part is that, for the trouble, a group gets a 10% "bonus" on contributed tier. For example, if you contribute all your 2048 m² tier to a group, it will have 2048 + 204 = 2252 m² of tier to use on land (which means it can own a 2240 m² parcel because land comes in 16 m² units).

As that knowledge base article outlines, there are two different processes that lead to group-owned land:

  1. Start with land owned by an individual, then deed it to group while transferring the tier, using "Owner Makes Contribution With Deed", or
  2. Group members contribute the tier to the group first, then use "Buy for Group".

ok so how do we make contribute to group  for us to buy sim on mainland??

Create a group for your family. Put everyone in the group, and give them a role with ability to contribute land.

Each person can contribute their land by opening up the group and going to the "land" tab, putting in what they want to contribute, and hitting save.

The "Free parcel" is Bellisseria / Linden Home:

You can pick one of those here: https://secondlife.com/land/lindenhomes

At the moment they are all out of the 2048s, and only have the smaller ones. The demand for the 2048s is very high, so they have been adding more of them regularly.

A good way to use that page I linked is to scroll down the bottom and click to see the last page - so you can quickly see what is NOT available and decide whether you want to wait for one of those or not. Then look at the first page for what's "hot" followed by what has the most available.

You can go here to preview all the choices:

You can go here to rez out your own stuff and plan a build BEFORE making your choice:

As Premium Plus, if you get one of the smaller ones - the amount of land you have left over can be used on mainland to buy another place for your own other random use. Some people do that to get a home and then land for a shop, sandbox, or in a different rating (the homes are all M, so if you need 'G' or 'A' you need other mainland).

If you go the mainland route with a group I strongly encourage whoever is the group owner to have one 'basic alt' in the group as well. If group membership ever falls below '2' a group can get deleted - so having your own alt in there makes your group "drama proof".

Give your alt full owner rights too. If you ever get locked out of SL, they can still handle the necessary business.
