Ren Float
I have a homestead sim and want to parcel it by altitude. I want the entire sim to consist of eight parcels @ 256 x 256 x 500. The "yellow box" method described here ( http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Joining_and_subdividing_land ) does not seem to allow this. Is there another method of selecting the area to parcel off? Love Zhaoying
No. Altitude is not an option. Edited March 6, 2018 by Love Zhaoying

Claireschen Hesten
You can parcel off areas at ground level but can't parcel off the sky each parcel owns from the ground to more or less infinity in the sky though you can only build as high up 4096m an alternative solution would be to rezz platforms to the size you want at the heights you want and all the platforms would share the same parcel
Ren Float
Then how is it done with renters? I see stack after stack of skyboxes when I fly my helicopter. Do they make each skybox a parcel? If so, can't I make a 255 x 255 x 499 skybox?
Love Zhaoying
I believe with renters, the door/structure is “locked” until someone pays rent. You can cam inside or use some cheat, but you can’t get inside normally.
Ren Float
I mean, how do they do such things as set the security and their own stream for it if it is not its own parcel?

For security they use scripted systems. Parcel media? Not possible to set individual sections of a singular parcel to different media streams. For that you'd have to use Media On A Prim.

I expect someone else will give you a more complete answer, but: you can only set stream at ground parcel level. Security can be handled multiple ways (orbs etc.), but obviously you can’t use non-entry (ban lines) for vertical renting unless each ground-level parcel is in the same security group. *Edit* I tried to post this earlier but got an answer. See Solar Legion’s answer above. The “media on a prim” also occurred to me.
animats
Fortunately, the tools for parceling out SL real estate vertically don't work very well. The result is usually ugly.
Callum Meriman
Yep, those vertical stacks all share the same parcel. They don't get individual radios or individual ban lists. They are also trivial to cam between. Absolutely no privacy at all.
