how do I retrieve old conversations

I am trying to retrive a conversation a few hours old

with firestorm my path is :

C- users-username(rl)-appdata-roaming-firestorm - username  ... than select on chatpartner

appdata is often a hidden folder, you will have to enable those in windows.

What Alwin said, for the regular viewer it's

C - Users - [username] - AppData - Roaming - SecondLife - Giha Salmson

IM converstations are stored in a .txt file with the name of the person (for example Kwakkelde Kwak.txt), open chat is stored in the chat.txt file.

If you don't find those folders in your AppData area on your computer, it's probably because you never told your viewer to save IMs or local chat.  You have to do that in Preferences >>> Chat

Rolig makes the most important point. You have to have chat logs enabled. You'll find the controls in Preference->Chat at the bottom. In the latest viewer I think these are enabled by default. So, you should have chat logs/transcripts.

As pointed out you have to tell WIndows to show hidden and system files to get to them. Google for the 'How To'.

It is possible to put the chat transcripts in a folder other than the default. Unless you moved the logs and changed the setting, they will be in the default location.
