Your monthly limits will go up over time during the first month..

After you have been here more than 2 days (as in on the 3rd day) your limit will increase to US$100.  After 8 days total it goes up to US$300

No.  Look at the chart....



After you have been in SL for a week, your limit jumps from $30 to $300. It's just during that first week that you have a low limit.  Think of it as a way to protect you from yourself, so that you can't dump a lot of cash into SL before you have been around long enough to spend it wisely.  It takes more than a few days in world to figure out whether putting a lot of money into buying land or other big purchases is a good idea.  As far as Linden Lab is concerned, it is also a way to discourage some people from using brand new accounts for money laundering.  SL is less attractive for someone running a money racket if he can't flip a lot of cash in and out of SL in those first days.
