SO, EBBE, YOU WANT TO COME ON HERE EVERY NOW AND THEN AND LEND US A DEMOCRATIC "EAR", WELL HERE'S SOME DEMOCRATIC FEEDBACK FOR YOU! HERE'S WHAT YOU DO TO IMPROVE SL AND MAKE SL 2 A SUCCESS:

1) BRING BACK LEGACY NAMES, OR GIVE US A SURNAME OPTION SO WE CAN NAME OURSELVES!

2) BRING BACK GAMBLING AND MONEY GAMES (MOVE THE SERVERS TO THE MARSHALL ISLANDS IF YOU HAVE TO!)

3) END AR ABUSE - LET THE PEOPLE OF SL POLICE THEMSELVES! NO MORE AR PARTIES BY FASCIST RESIDENT GROUPS!

4) CREATE MORE PUBLIC / FREE SANDBOXES THAT EVERYONE CAN USE!

5) FORGET MESH, NOBODY CARES, LET US KEEP OUR INVENTORIES!

6) INVEST IN MAKING BETTER PHYSICS FOR RACING VEHICLES LIKE CARS AND MOTORBIKES

First..all caps make it very difficult to read your rant.

Next, AR's are needed whether you like them or not. SL investigates them so the AR parties, as you call them, really don't mean much. AR's give residents a way to let LL know about child porn (which is against SL TOS) as well as grefers. It's impossible for the Lindens to be everywhere an they, like your local police, depend you the residents to let them know when there's a problem.

Gaming/gambling isn't going to happen. LL is incorporated in San Francisco and are subject to US laws. If you want to gamble, there are plenty of sites on the internet that allow it. SL doesn't need to be another in the list. SL supposed to be about meeting people, RPing, etc.

I am with you in regards to being able to have a realy surname. Dropping that was one of the biggest mistakes SL has made. In the past claims were made that no last name was preferred but everyone I've talked to wants them back.

There are plenty of free sandboxes now. Try starting from the end of the list rather than the beginning when you are looking for a place to build. Oh, and btw, most of those are privately owned, not sponsored by LL.

You may not care about mesh, but there are lots of people that do. The sales figures for clothing and bodies show that. If you don't like mesh, you don't have to buy it.

The new platform is going to be totally different from SL...just like WoW is different from Call of Duty, for instance. 2 totally different things. The new platform probably won't be connected to the current inventory servers, which is why the SL inventories won't be transferrable. Also, much of what we have in our SL inventories just won't work in on the new platform since it won't be supporting what we take for granted in SL...like basic prims, for instance. Right now everything is being designed in Maya.

The physic engine is what it is. The new platform will work differently so may be better but no telling. Again, SL isn't a traditional gaming platform so things won't work in SL like they would in Grand Theft Auto, for instance.

Well now that you have that off of your chest, please remove me from the Nobody Cares list you have by default added all of us into.

and in no particular order...

Policing ourselves. Oh what fun that would be. One small Griefer Team with a 2 week caffeine supply could depopulate all of Second Life in days with that feature. On the positive side, that would then remove the need for more public sandboxes for them [Griefers] to annoy each other in.

Seriously, Display Names with all their insane variations aren't enough for you? User accounts with surnames are long gone.

I'm all for better physics on full mesh avatars... Yes Yes Yes. [i want realistic body physics not just breast and butt juggling.]

As for gambling, there are tons of gambling websites on the Internet. Doing this in Second Life provides what advantage exactly?

The no last names has led to lots of creative ways of spelling names like Gwyndylynne or the addition of numbers for more common names. At least with surnames you didn't have to hunt for an unused spelling variation for a name you wanted. If the spelling you wanted was taken with the surname you were looking at...you could just change to another surname. You also were able to get some cute and witty combos like Sinfuldelight Fiul, Widget Engineer, Peppermint/Pepperment Twist, etc. At least with surnames you wouldn't see J#nn1f3r rather than Jennifer.

As Bobbie already said, you din't have to shout ;)

But:

Yes, that would be nice. Hardly essential though.

Tell you what, Linden Lab would love to do that, they lost a lot of money when they were forced to close down gambling. Nothing they can do about it though.

:o !!!!!!!!!

There are probably more sandboxes than sandbox users in SL today so that would be rather pointless. Some of them can be hard to find though, maybe we should make a list.

I went to Damania earlier today and had a look at what a true prim artist can achieve so right now I'm inclined to agree.

But although there are several problems with mesh the way it's implemented and used in Second Life, I think it's still the only way forward from here. Better to fix it than remove it.

That point is the reason why I'm replying here.

Yes, Second Life is not very vehicle friendly and that is a serious problem. It's not the physics engine's fault though. HAVOK is still a very popular physics engine used by many games without any of the driving issues we have in Second Life.

If you launch a car racing game and take a look at the scenery, you'll see that it's actually very simple, far simpler than anything you'll ever see in Second Life. That means the computer spends less time rendering the scenery and can focus on handling the car(s).

The cars are much simpler too. Not overloaded with bells and whistles stealing computer power from the main purpose. And generally they're better made by professional 3D makers. Oh, there are some really well made cars and bikes in SL too but it seems to me more than half of them are hastily copybotted from some computer game and then uploaded to SL by somebody who doesn't have a clue about building neither with mesh not anything else.

The avatars are simpler. No AOs or other scripted or render heavy attachment loading down the computers.

And of course, the ground is simpler and much easier for the physics engine to deal with.

Then there's the scripting. Second Life was never built for speed and the scripting language, lsl, isn't very efficient. That limits the possibilities for high speed controlled driving. But most of the car and motorcycle scripts I've seen aren't anywhere near the limit of efficiency anyway. Many vehicles still use public domain free scripts from the early days of Second Life and can't take advantage of the improvements that has been made to lsl over the years. And there's this popular commercial vehicle script system that is so clumnsily made it's a miracle the poor sim server is able to make any sense out of it at all.

Not sure if anybody has ever tried this but on an isolated sim with a flat ground, stripped down surroundings, a well made vehicle with a well made script, possibly windlight switched off, definitely no AOs or other scripts or heavy attachments for the avatars, etc...

In other words, make a sim that is a similar to a car race game as possible and you should be able to do quite good high speed racing in SL. Not nearly as good as in a specially made game of course but much better than the usual SL performance.

So, you have two posts, and one is a rant all in caps to the CEO of Linden Labs, with requests that really don't benefit anyone but apparently you. I'm assuming that you don't have private land and that's the reason you want a sandbox. Well, for $9.00 a month as a premium account holder, you can access some outstanding sandboxes that are nearly empty.

Where are you trying to use vehicles? Knowing where, might make it easier to give advice. Mainland would be laggy, and so would public sandboxes. Have you tried sims just for vehicles?

Sur name? Look where that got me. Like many who come to Sl for the first time, I didn't know this was a forever name. I picked it to get "close" to a name I'd used in a book I wrote; fail. I would only recommend the "resident" part be deleted. And you can give yourself a last name. Totally unsure of this question.

Gambling? Aren't there apps on your phone for that with better winnings? Linden can't do that legally no matter where they put it...

Your # 5 confounds me. Where is your inventory going? Why would anyone want to go back to a non mesh world, where everything seemed graphically muted and surreal? You have to clarify what you mean by that suggestion. We can have anything in our inventory. Who's taking what out of yours? Most everyone loves mesh of some kind.

Your rant is the kind of reason CEO's have better things to do with their days than read the forums.

I'd ask Mr. Linden to please put the copy parameters on the Linden Viewer now that we're all using it for VMM. I'd like to thank him for at least making a bold attempt to fix the broken MP, and other than a few bugs, it's so much easier for me to manage no copy scripts.

I might ask him to remove the words rape, molestation, and slaves from all of Second Life. Naked teen avatars from Market Place suggesting sex with them. It's so offensive and illegal in the USA. If they removed a flag, then could at the very least remove these terms, and close down rape clubs and events surrounding rape and slaves, and child sex, of any kind. When people act amazed that SL is considered a place for sex, I want to shake them, and say, how could they not? We, the members don't see it unless we look for it, but the public seems to know all about it! We can't continually explain that SL isn't about sex. I've been told several times by Facebook friends that they won't come here because of the sex. I'd never talked to them in depth about SL, just invited them to come. It kinda reminds me of when I was actively publishing romance novels, and people would call them bodice rippers, I'd have to spend a good deal of time explaining the "relationship" was the story, not the SEX. My first TV interview the first thing the interviewee asked was, "So tell us about the sex." I was mortified, and unprepared for an answer.

I'd ask Mr. Linden to have better live support for those who don't have a premium accounts, especially those on Market Place.

So, if you're going to suggest things, try being respectful and include things that would benefit the community. And also try getting some posts under your belly before going off.
