Celena Galli Posted January 23, 2013 Posted January 23, 2013 Advertising I was searching the forum and i find from a helper of secondlife forum the following message The only advertising allowed on the forums is:Land sales and rentals, in the land forumsServices offered, in in-world employmentthen I place in inworld employment an advertising message for a photography bussiness as services offered (Description - links) and i get deleted by a moderator with the following message Spamming, Solicitation and Advertising: Spamming is not allowed. This includes aggressive self-promotion. No advertising or promotion of specific Second Life merchants, Marketplace listings, products, or services, unless the forum area is specifically for the buying or selling of Second Life products or services, for example, a “for sale” or “wanted” forum. Do not reference other websites offering any product or service.Note: It is OK to have a signature line with a link to your Second Life profile or information about your Second Life business. After an extended search i find up to 20 messages ( in the front pages.. if i search more i will find a tone of those messages ) with the same message with me and advertising links e.t.c. and are still up in the Secondlife forum - Commerce forum - in world employment without any problem The topics that i find are - self advertising, business advertising and descriptions with links from other websites I will not start to listing here all those links....You can see with your own eyes.... I get confused.. is the advertising allowed or not? in which section i can place my advertising message?
Frawmusl Posted January 23, 2013 Posted January 23, 2013 " i find up to 20 messages with the same message with me and advertising links" Quite possibly they deleted it for spamming ^.^
Celena Galli Posted January 23, 2013 Author Posted January 23, 2013 I post my message and i get deleted in maximum 1 hour. All the other advetising messages are still up for a weeks now
Drake1 Nightfire Posted January 23, 2013 Posted January 23, 2013 no one flagged them and someone flagged yours.. what category was yours in? what were you advertising for?

It's the words "Services offered" that's wrong. The in-world empoyment sub-forum is for advertising for employees - offering jobs - and not for advertising services such as photography, landscaping, escorting, etc. If you want someone to work for you, advertise in "in-world employment". The name of that sub-forum clearly means that and nothing else. Why someone has used the words "Services offered" is beyond me, but the title of that sub-forum makes it clear that it is only for offering jobs. The other advertisers you mentioned got away with it, that's all. You can't expect to get away with it just because someone else did. If you feel like it, you could ask the moderator who deleted your post why others like it have not been deleted, and give him some URLs to the ads. And then see what happens.
PrincessFly Posted January 23, 2013 Posted January 23, 2013 If I have my own web site of adult toys can I link the virtual world with my web business, and be able have a link to Second Life? if so does Second Life offer any sort of Picture or banner I can place on my web site.

I just looked at the Subjects for 10 pages of In-World Employment (did not go inside the messages), and by the title I saw no businesses advertising products or services for sale. Can you provide links to the posts you are referencing that do? All I saw had to do with hiring staff/talent or people looking for a job. What is your business and what type of advertising were you doing? If it did not have to do with employment, it was in the wrong place. There is no place to advertise services or products on the LL forums. If you need a job, or need to hire someone for your business, then you can post in In-World Employment.
ImaTest1488314069 Posted January 23, 2013 Posted January 23, 2013 Maybe this will make it less confusing. If you are a merchant who sells wares, or your services are your wares(such as with photography, blogging, etc..) you cannot advertise those wares. If you are a merchant, or anyone really, who is looking to employ others to work for you, you can advertise. For example..... A creator cannot advertise their creations A photographer, or even blogger cannot advertise that they are available, or to offer their services in any way as it's considered a "product" However.. A creator looking to hire staff for their business, can advertise this(but cannot advertise their store) A photographer or blogger who is looking to hire other photographers, or anyone, to perform duties/work for/with them, can advertise this, but cannot advertise they are available for work themselves. There is a difference between wares and employment. It's a pretty distinct one, that often gets confused because of poor wording. Like the job LL did with that subforum description That said, you should really stop saying "others are doing it too". We know they are, when/if they get reported, they get dealt with. Telling a moderator "well so and so did it, go look" isn't going to garner you any brownie points. That's why they told you to file a ticket...because you seem to take issue with the policy itself. Moderators can't do anything about your dislike for a certain rule, so they'll tell you to take it up with those who can. All they can do is follow the guidelines set before them. While I do believe they could do a much better job at monitoring, they surely can't see/catch it all. That's when residents come in handy. We see something off, we report it. If we don't, they may or may not see it. If you see inappropriate posts, just report them with the little link that says "report inappropriate content". That will flag it so it can be looked at. It's really simple. Giving a moderator a list of such posts may not be as helpful as you think. Others doing it, and getting away with it, doesn't then make it right for you to do so as well. On a personal note i hate when I see/hear people say "others were doing/did it too". It makes me cringe when adults use that excuse.
Kenbro Utu Posted January 23, 2013 Posted January 23, 2013 I understand all this, perhaps you should address the OP.
