How do I share clothing items that you can copy ?

I know you can share items that you can copy .. but I am not sure how to do this .Could someone explain this to me ?

Hi Lilith,

You can only share items that are transfer or trans/copy. "Copy only" allows you to make additional copies for yourself, but you cannot transfer the original or any of the copies to another. "Transfer only" allows you to transfer the original to someone else, but you can't keep a copy for yourself. "Trans/copy" items would allow you to send a copy to someone else while keeping one for yourself. Such items are not terribly common.

Also keep in mind, that most copy/transfer items have a special license attached to them by the creator that forbids sending out copies of the object to others in their original state. These are full permission items created for merchants but can be purchased as is by anyone and just because they are full permission does not mean you can break the merchant's End user license agreement.

Perhaps you are thinking about items that you want other group members to be able to move and modify.  If so, the trick is to select the object and then Set it to the group (not deed it) on the General page in your editor. Click the Share box.

Actually, you CANNOT share most items that you can copy.  There are three Permissions, Copy, Transfer, and Modify.  Most creators will allow you to EITHER copy an item (for your own use) OR transfer it (sell it or give it away), but not both.

The reason for this should be obvious.  If you can both Copy AND Transfer an item, you can give one to a friend, and keep it for yourself, too.  If creators allowed this, the market would quickly become saturated with free giveaways and they wouldn't sell any more of that particular item.

You can, of course, set any permissions you like on things that you create yourself.  Just make sure that you have checked the desired boxes in the Next Owner Permissions -- Edit window, General tab, down at the bottom.

A few things like textures are sold with both Copy and Transfer permissions, but these items come with a license agreement that you are expected to honor.  You can use these things in your own creations and then sell those creations, but you may NOT sell or give away the textures (or whatever) by themselves.
