Question

why are private sim owners increasing the tiers since the increased prims by LL? wouldn't this defeat the purpose of the prim increase so that residents can now use the mesh LI which is usually higher than prims to decorate their homes. Does LL approve of this increase by the private sim owners? Example: 100L for 20 Prims ( increase allows for each person to get a "33% increase in Land Impact allowance at no additional charge!" https://community.secondlife.com/t5/Featured-News/More-Prims-for-Everyone/ba-p/3084380.) But........... landlords are not giving the prims unless we pay  extra for it, Is this allowed based on the new "at no additional charge!" Notice? Kindly provide some guidance for both residents and land owners please. thanks very much ☺

This is a resident-to-resident Answers site.  We're all SL residents like you.  Lindens never come here, and we can only guess at what goes on in the Linden Lab's corporate headquarters.  However, I can tell you that Linden Lab has absolutely no policy regarding what prices individual landowners decide to charge.  They neither approve nor disapprove. That's entirely up to the landowners.  "No additional charge" to  landowners does not mean that they are required to keep their own prices the same, although I suspect that's what most landowners will do.

If you want to debate the topic, Answers is not the best place to do it. The software is not designed well for back and forth conversation.  In Answers, we try to address specific questions about how SL works (or why it doesn't), rather than debating policy issues that we can only speculate about.  If you want discussion, the ideal place to start one is the General Discussion forum.

keywords in your post is this :100L for 20 Prims  so you rent prims ...or LI ... but in that case you did NOT get a higher primcount... that;s a mistake more people make. You only get more when you rent land. 512 sqm will stay 512 sqm after the raise... with higher primcount.. but 100 prims lease, will stay 100 prims lease... sorry but that's the deal you made.

A landlord can also decide to lower primlimit on a parcel... and ask each price he wants. If thats wise...i doubt. multiple large estates offer their cumstomers the new limits at no change of charge.

That your landlord has more prims, isn't really your concern.

If you don't like it...move out..

( additional... the new raise has nothing to do with using the LI or mesh it's just a higher amount)

Hi Sharla!

The new prim allowances for land are just that...new.  So everyone is still trying to figure out how to deal with this very fundamental change to the SL economy.

You see, the economy is based on land, and its ability to support objects.  By increasing the land's "carrying capacity", LL has thrown a HUGE curve ball into the Second Life economy.  In effect, they decreased the cost of prims by a third.

By one way of looking at it, this makes land LESS valuable.  If all you need is 200 prims, you now don't need as much land to get that.  But at the same time, LL has not decreased the monthly cost of land.  A landlord who owns a Mainland region still has to pay LL $195 USD per month.  Private estate owners still pay $195 to $295 per month for their regions.

Some landlords are simply passing the extra prims on to their tenants, and keeping rents the same.  Some are keeping both rents and prim allowances constant, and offering to rent their tenants more prims at an additional cost.  Others are subdividing their regions into smaller parcels, so as to get more tenants per square meter.

Look around for an estate owner who's offering what you need at an attractive price.
