  1. Ya I know I read it just wasn't sure what portion of copyright law it was in.
  2. Oh okay. It's in Copyright Law under the Fair Use Clause portion I am pretty sure. It's in one of the links I referenced previously I know that for sure.
  3. Yes but by the sounds of it the only issue is that you had to hide a part of your body to make it work. Something that is fixed via your hud. There's very few vendors that are so perfect that you don't need to hide anything. So its pretty common to have to hide some parts. I can only think of 3 maybe 4 offhand and I shop a lot. I think I've been to every event since like July or August. Even the smaller ones.
  4. I actually concur with what you say about the buying straight from vendor. Normally when i get gacha's I wait til after the event to post whatever extras I have. As for your issue there is, no problem at all to fix. An auto hide is a convenience thing. It is not a necessity. I guess they could have contacted you and explained it better than I probably am and trust me it annoys the hell of out me when I hear of vendors not responding but at the same time you are literally giving them no starting point here as there is essentially no problem. It's kind of relative to me leaving a message for my car dealership complaining that my car won't start without the key in the ignition. Yes they make cars with a push button, but my car didn't come with one so now I want my money back for it. I honestly don't think that car dealership would get back to me.
  5. Just curious but how are you spending 10k to complete a set? I feel like for the most part Ive only ever spent at most 1500 completing a set and that's generally about the high point of where I value a set. Is this just some sort of completionist thing? I feel like for 10k you should have quite a few complete sets. Did you check the market place first before rolling on the gacha? Edit: Just saw the set in the MP. It has 5 different color combos so thats around 2k per set if rolling 10k for them. That's a bit high imo. I think if I was rolling that bad I would have cut my losses at some point way south of 10k.
  6. In the future I'd suggest looking the resources up for yourself. These forums you are going to get varying levels of knowledgeable opinions but a few of them are just people with a bajillion comments and have little friends that like every little thing they say regardless of its accuracy and only just appear to be an expert on whatever the subject is but for the most part just spread varying levels of disinformation. As for Chic, Ive only ever had good convos with her as far as i know. Probably had some disagreement here or there but to me they were just that. I've asked a few questions on these forums and have had some pretty knowledgeable people respond. But just take whatever we say with a grain of salt. 99% of the time we know as much (or little) as you do.
  7. Hey Gem would you happen to mention where you found that thing about parody? It wouldn't happen to be under the fair use clause would it?... PS I already know the answer.
  8. I honestly don't see why autohide is necessary and almost always use the hud. In fact I find auto hides quite annoying especially when swapping between outfits or trying out demos in crowded areas such as clothing events since they autoshow your bits when you take them off or swap to another outfit. I play gacha quite a bit and I would not consider something not having an auto-hide as broken. Not even remotely.
  9. Okay thanks I understand now. I just don't get why they would care about people messing with the texture layer. As leaving it mod wouldn't allow someone to download or rip the texture. I want to mess with the texture layer. That's actually the whole point to me making this thread lol.
  10. It had little to do with the texture and mostly to do with the fact people could read the data in the objects tab and make a copy from that data if it were no-mod. Mod hides that information. Also, do you mean sculpty? Because flexi's were also prims and could similarly be ripped off for exposing that information.
  11. Idk. I have to disagree with there being something wrong with it morally or ethically. If you put a product out there for sale and someone owns it for their own use then how they use it shouldn't matter to you. And to be honest, if they find another use than what it was initially intended for then it just gives more of a reason to buy it.
  12. Yes this is what I figured. Maybe some day we can have grids on our clothing as well. xD. I think it's possible now but if it became a fad I can't imagine what life would be like in a crowded sim.
  13. Flexi was a different time when mesh wasn't yet prevalent and things were made mostly of prims. In the case of prims no-mod absolutely protected them from being copied since it hid the information in the objects tab. Otherwise people could just use that information to recreate the prim. Now that information under that tab is useless for mesh as it will not help to recreate it.
  14. Most of the big brands I know go mod and if they didn't it's simply because they didn't think to uncheck that box. They also use their own textures and have no reason to hide the color box because they don't use it to tint their textures. I think the only big brands I can think of off the top of my head that are exclusively no-mod for whatever reason are Blueberry and FashionNatic. But you can tell by the quality of their stuff that the do not use in-game tints. Honestly, I wish SL would take the color box off the mod/no-mod altogether. It just seems like a lot of lesser skilled creators are just hiding the fact they are essentially selling a single product for the price of a fatpack. I wouldn't mind paying an extra 100-200L for a hud to be included that makes it more convenient for me to change colors but I most certainly will never pay 5 to 10 times the price of one for that ability.
  15. I like to use photoshop and indesign. Mostly in photoshop then finishing in indesign (mostly for sizing and cropping and I like how the links tab shows what resolution I am working with in real time as I scale and crop a photo). I've been using them a well as other Adobe software since it was Creative Suite so it's what I am more comfortable with.
  16. Yes ToS but SL doesn't sweep for potential copyrighted material. The TOS is really there just the protect them which is absolutely their right to do. I tnink if they did sweep for copyrighted material we'd lose like half the inventory in the marketplace. As for other countries law I am not sure if they come into play since you do not have possession of the virtual property in said country, it's on a server somewhere in the US. But I haven't referenced this idea so it's merely an uneducated opinion. I was just trying to point out the term "use" because it's very important when it comes to copyright. Yes according to copyright law you shouldn't copy something that is copyrighted but with the fair use clause the odds you being found guilty of something illegal or found liable for it is slim to none. Cases have already established that precedent for use. And if someone were to challenge you for using something you copied in a virtual realm they would risk setting precedent there as well. So it's not even worth it for someone who is just using something. As far as walking around SL with a shirt you made with copyrighted material, I doubt you will pop up on their radar at all even if you were standing directly across from a Linden wearing it. If you began to sell it then yes maybe. But even with that, there's an event using a popular trademark name so I kind of doubt even that would pop up on SL radar unless someone brought it to their attention. Which, according to SL's own policy, can only be done by the party who owns the copyright.
  17. I have done research. https://ogc.harvard.edu/pages/copyright-and-fair-use You should look up the fair use clause. As well as cases where judges have set precedent on it. https://fairuse.stanford.edu/2014/12/22/much-photo-need-alter-avoid-copyright-infringement-hint-cheshire-cat/ PS: I was replying to your quote "You didn't buy the right to use the art on that shirt for your own purposes -- real life or virtual.". You did not use the term "copy" or "reproduce". You used the term "use". So yes my examples were not examples of reproduction. If we are not allowed to make a copy for our own personal use then why do we have copy machines in libraries?
  18. Strange because whenever I buy anything real or virtual I sure do have the right do with it as I please. I can buy a shirt, frame it for whatever reason and display on the front of my house with bright lights and all. I can buy a Kia, take the engine out and put a hamster wheel in it. You can use anything for your own purposes. You just can't sell or profit off it in any way.
  19. Yes I found this amazing considering the alt right is a lot closer to the type of socialism they fear than any democrat in office rn.
  20. Exactly, immigration isn't a priority to them yet that's what Democrats focused on. Hence why they lost them.
  21. Hispanics aren't automatically going to vote democrat over immigration. Specifically Mexican Americans. In fact Mexicans who are here legally are more likely to vote republican. Its like one of the oldest rivalries in the US.
  22. Lol yes kind of like President Trump, who has access to all kinds of top secret information, needs to site Breitbart to spread his lies..
  23. Ya way different. A lot of the southern states used to be democrat. It wasn't until Democrats took up the cause of allowing Blacks to vote that the south started to turn republican.
