Anyway, there are now three companies with tens of billions of dollars, Facebook, Roblox, and Epic, aiming at SL's niche.

Secondlife is not on any competitive corporate entity's radar.

Secondlife does not create any standards that any competitive corporate entity would be interested in mimicking.

trying to think of the use cases

if (!isFriend) on my parcel, eject them

if (isFriend) invite them to my private group

if (!isFriend) invite them to my public group

if(isFriend) in my shop. give them friend gift or friend discount

if(isFriend) renting from me, give them friend discount

if (isFriend) in my performance venue, add them to my significant people to greet list

if (isFriend) on my battle arena, don't shoot them

I'm aware there are such benefits, but I'm not for access to this information without my explcit permission.

I'm not for attempting to create a new standard where permissionless access should be treated as a new norm.

  3. Is there going to be an explicit, non-auto-granting permission involved to get this information? As it is sensitive information and despite the convenience with the application mentioned, some users will definitely feel it is no business of anyone, whether land owner, estate owner, estate manager, etc. whom their friends are.

I also see unwanted/inconvenient marketing/profiling exploits with access to this information.

  4. One thing is certain. It should not take the installation of a new CEO nor VP of engineering to prioritize fixing it.

    The same applies to ArcTan.

The same applies to innovation and intellectual curiousity.

Sadly, all of the above have been lacking for quite some time.

I'd heard they'd run into some intractable problems, too.   I forget what they were, but what they have got working seems very useful, and, at least to my inexpert eye, worth adding to the Official Viewer at some point.

There are still bugs that need fixing. I've done extensive testing with that viewer as I also was interested in it.

Sadly, I only have guesses as to why they might scrap it, one being, that the new controls are of an advanced nature and might confuse new users.

IDK if this means they want to go back to the drawing board or leave things alone.

  6. So, FWIW here are the curious/confusing body & chest mod stats:

    e2JwrGB.png

On the left are the top 50 bodies. On the right is body & chest mod followed by count and % of the total body count.

    So, for example, 5.5% of Maitreya - Lara wearers were also wearing Maitreya - Lara (Petite) : 3444 / 61694 = 5.5%

Numbers are far smaller than what I expected.

My only explanation is that I wasn't tracking chest mods until I started Round 3 so there were 22k entries that may be missing them or just have not "updated" since, but even if that block of users was tracked correctly, I don't see totals doubling or tripling.

Yes, the Kemono has many chest mods, heh.

Body total is 154997 (up from 145390 on June 17)

I also compiled another list of "new and old" bodies users have and/or switched to:

    0YlrgN0.png

Here are two ways to interpret/read the chart on the right w/ example #1:

    1. 1009 or 12% of MeshBody - Legacy (Female) wearers switched from Maitreya - Lara
    2. 1009 or 12% of MeshBody - Legacy (Female) wearers also own Maitreya - Lara

It doesn't help that Inithium having the two creators splits up the data more. I'll eventually have to think of a way to consolidate that.

Edit the item, from the build menu, reset the scripts. When it asks for permission to animate your avatar, decline.

What else does it do that you don't want to loose ?

It's an attachment though. Animation permissions will be auto-granted.

I have this item that lifts an arm when attached. I'd like it to not do that and keep the script inside (the item does other things but its all bundled into one). Also, If I remove the animation the other functions cease to work. Hmm. Maybe the arm being raised it part of the item's animation. Sounds redundant, but I figured avatars were animated independent of attached items? Only animesh items, like heads, could be manipulated with better precision? In other words, I dont understand animesh that well but perhaps how the item moves is also linked to the bones of the avatar at the same time? 🤔 so they're "linked"?

What kind of item. Bringing up animesh makes me think of a pet you hold and if it doesn't function when you remove the animation, maybe the creator made it tamper proof?

although both formulas are missing the constant 15 li for being animesh.

    touché

And yes, It isn't part of the original topic, but animats' continued usage of "666 triangles = 1 LI" drives me nuts that I have to correct it on the spot here and in-world.

    OK. The actual formula is

    max(high_tri_count, med_tri_count * 2, low_tri_count * 4, lowest_tri_count * 8) / 666.66666

    No, the formula is

     (high_tri_count + max(0,med_tri_count - (high_tri_count / 2)) + max(0,low_tri_count - (high_tri_count / 4)) + max(0,lowest_tri_count - (high_tri_count / 8))) / 666.66666

    666 triangles = 1 LI

    Stop saying that. 🤐

You know it's charged triangle based. So anything over the 1:2, 1:4, 1:8, Medium, Low, Lowest LOD triangle ratio gets added as well. There is sadly a lot of content with Medium and even Low LOD triangle counts matching High LOD triangle count, causing an additional 50% - 125% LI.

Second thought, and putting it here instead of editing my first reply, for clarity.

I understand your reasoning for not including it as it pulls from the whole original body, but consider if your guess is accurate:

    • 15% of the M.Lara total is 8,705 "bodies"
    • The Base Lara drops from 40% to 34%
    • That puts the number of Lara Petites at #3 on the list above, with 6% usage.

That is a significant amount of bodies and a significant data point. I get that trying to account for all the add-ons, including after market and third party attachments, can muddy the water and the data becomes less meaningful.  However (and this is just my personal thoughts), I feel that as far as the Maitreya products are concerned.... I think that theirs is a fairly elegant solution to the slim/petite trends in bodies and one that didn't alienate their customer base.  So the Petite should be considered a whole body even if it's not technically a "whole body". (Flat too for that matter)  If there is an exception to be made to your accounting and aggregating rules of not including add-on forms in your main body list, Maitreya might just be that case.

i know you already said you'd try to include [some] add-ons in the next round, and so maybe this comment will help you figure out, or at least give you another angle of consideration on, how is best to do it for the data you are trying to present when it comes time.

I'll have my compiler spit out a separate list of bodies with chest mods that reports count and percentage versus that of the base body count.

    So it'll look something like:

    Maitreya - Lara & Maitreya - Lara (Flat) 2908 5%
    Maitreya - Lara & Maitreya - Lara (Petite) 8705 15%
    MeshBody - Legacy Perky & MeshBody - Perky Petite Add-On 588 20%

I'll get to it when Covid stops kicking my ass. 🤢🤮🤧🥵🥶

Maybe something from Strawberry Linden ?

I don't think you're going to get official stats from LL as it could be misinterpreted as LL praising or criticizing particular brands even though it would still be the most accurate stats available and I would love to see something from them, too.

They are tracking related data as part of their ArcTan telemetry anyway.

Okay this is some fascinating data. I'm curious is the Rebirth mesh bodies too new to the market or just not represented ? If I've missed viewing them in the data my honest apologies. Still, thank you for collecting all the data Original Poster, cheers.

Rebirth - Eden is #87, Rebirth - Eden (Female) is #151, Rebirth - Eden (Male) is #250

AFAIK, they've been around for a year now.

If you don't already own land in the region, the Linden's are unlikely to sell any abandoned land in the region to you.

Unless there is zoning conflicts, they've been pretty lax on that lately, even going as far to offer to cut out a slice of abandoned land from a big parcel.

One thing I noticed is that Lara Petite, or Lara Flat,  are not represented here at all (unless I'm just overlooking them).  I think the process you are using is just not reporting it though.

I see, for example, Legacy Female @ #4, and Legacy Perky @ #10 and there are other slim/petite variations represented through the list, but not Lara Petite at all.  I suspect that is because it's not a whole body like the others but rather an add on to the body.  In the worn list is "Maitreya Mesh Body - Lara VX.X" and "Maitreya Mesh Body - Lara Add-on (petite|flat) V.X.X" and either your bot is simply dropping that data point as a "duplicate entry" on the floor, or your aggregator is.   But as popular as Maitreya is I'm fairly sure the add-ons (probably Petite more than Flat, but even so) have some good traction and should be seen on the list.  Their absence is conspicuous, especially if Legacy Perky is sitting at #10.

You might want to take a look at that.

I also track breast, thigh and alternate lower body add-ons like taurs. I wasn't sure about including them as it would split up the overall total for the bodies themself.

Lara - Petite is very popular. I would guess that almost 15% of Lara wearers are using it.

I'll try to include an add-ons list next round.

Legacy Perky and Kupra Kups are on the list because those breast shapes are part of an entire mesh body so they're not add-ons.

  16. They're apparently using attachment checking because the event group isn't the same as the land group.

Using the script function llSameGroup() typically requires setting a prim to the group you're wanting to target, but if that prim is over group owned land and doesn't match the land group, then you'd have to set a 0 minute prim return time or use a child prim with the target group and a root prim with the land group, both of which could be undesired.

Three times as many Kemono as Slink Physique? That's plain bizarre.

Slink has been losing ground for over a year now, allegedly since the arrival of Legacy and further followed by the arrival of Kupra.

I also track head and body changes, but don't have the stats for those compiled. I'll see about doing that next round.

I feel those stats would mostly show what other heads/bodies someone has and cycles between, not necessarily switched from and never will go back to.
