  1. Hi Peter, I needed to ask so I may understand. By my questions someone that knows about PE would know that I do not know, you know, and hopefully they would then provide an answer.

For me I do not make sculpties nor will I be making meshies, I spend much too much time building and making textures so I will have to wait until someone makes packs I can buy to use in my builds. In turn I have not been keeping up with all if the blogs and posts about everything, (who could really) so I thought I would ask here.

  2. I am missing something here or is this just not thought out correctly?

It seems to me that the idea behind prim equivalent or PE is to show the "resources used" so should it not be called RU?

At 15,000 prims a sim and one square box has the PE of 15 then a sim with 1,000 square boxes has the PE of 15,000 and the sim is full.... or does this mean that a sim will no longer have a prim limit but will instead have an RU limit of 225,000 to allow 15,000 square boxes in a sim? Unless you add a script to one of the boxes then you can only have 990 prims in a sim since that scripted prim will have a PE of 25. Or is a prim 3D shape and a resource is the information needed to make that shape as well as the scripts in it and textures and sounds etc.... that can't be right either other wise they would be two different things.

Anyone that has been in SL for several months or so will learn from experience that heavy primmed and scripted objects could cause lag due to the information, (resources) it is asking a computer to read, (and carry out in the way of script instructions) so the PE is really only intended for new users that do not know how lag could be created by heavy objects.

Oh I know, perhaps an area of the welcome islands could be set up with all of those freebie standing video games, (pacman, space invaders, centipede etc) because when most people get them they rez them all and have instant lag with all the bleeping and blooping sounds going on. This way they will learn how lag can come from objects without having to make up a new system about resources being name as a prim system. hmmmm...

  3. It's better to post it here since SL respects our privacy by allowing us to use our avatar names so our posts will stay here.

If facebook thinks you are not using your real name on your facebook profile they will deactivate your profile because they can not sell avatar names for a profit to third parties.

  4. The best reason for not wearing face lights is because they change the environment that a builder has put a lot of time and effort in to creating to make it look just right in different times of day and graphic levels. The face light will not let you or the people around you see what was created that way it was meant to be seen.

Another reason for not wearing a face light would be since it is a great way of saying look at me, look at me.... hmmm.

Besides not too many people go around in mouselook so they can't really see what you look like anyway, when you see your av you are most likely spinning the camera around and zooming in to do so.

  5. A bit of information is just not making it into the sim... did you notice on the mini map that he had two yellow dots in different locations both with his name on them on hover over? I used to see that a lot before but it seems to have been fixed now.

  6. Yes it is for searching too though, example, if something has an odd name as many things do and you only remember part of the name you can put it in inworld search and the sim it is in will show up where that items is with a teleport right to it. I used part of the name of first item in my list "508 Wetherby" and my sim came up. The whole name of the item is really " #508 Wetherby's 'Celine' Maxi Dress - Purple".

  7. Could you not just use another prim as a pose ball and link it as the root? This way you would not have to add any extra scripting to be read and carried out but it would cost a prim. I usually make a 'thing', link it all then make a new pose ball, edit it, sit on it and move it to where the position of my av looks good, stand and link it as root, then edit linked part to make the pose ball prim invisible.

  8. I do not and will never use those forms of spam spam spam.

If a place has those I ignore them all and the place loses a point, if I am TOLD to be in role play before I can even see what the place is all about they lose another point... two lost points and I leave.

  9. The other already answered this but I would like to add I think there should be some way so saving sims that are all time favs like The Lost Gardens of Apollo. There are many places in the Destination Guide that are awesome but some just can not compare to Apollo. Perhaps a vintage category could be set up in the DG with these great places that the creators can no longer keep up.

  10. Before you login select Advanced mode and your inventory will be a button on the right side with the suitcase icon.

I don't know why this is not explained for new users at least in a pop up window as they login for the very first time.
