  1. That's the way those trees are in any viewer with any graphics setting, from far they look bad but up close they get a bit better.

All you can do is make a tree trunk for it with a prim, do this from close range then when you move away from it it will still look great. That way it will only cost you two prims, one for the tree and one for the trunk. There are many other trees you can buy however are usually a bit prim heavy BUT if you have the prims to spare on trees the ones you can buy look so much better.

  2. In the Object tab of the editor you can change the Material from wood to metal, rock, rubber etc. This will add different sounds.

Making a prim double or hollow changes nothing, the bigger it is the hard it is to push around, too big and you can not push it.

Falling speed has nothing to do with density in SL or real life, that depends on aerodynamics.

  3. If it is your web page store then you should have the ability to view and accept or delete any reviews on your store page.

Bad people can still buy things from your store so you and LL make money off of them, they just can't write fake reviews.

That would be the quickest and easiest way to monitor reviews and it would be done by users so LL would not have to be bothered and the bad people could still buy things on other web page stores of other users.

  4. I find the customer service great, they are very helpful everytime and always resolve what ever the problem is right there and then, they do care. That is by calling and not using a support ticket, I think that has been canceled or put on hold, not sure.

As far as the shopping goes that's up to the stores owner not SL. Clubing: look in the events, join groups that put on shows or use the map to find traffic.

The decline is due to two factors, first the lack of direction and coherency. There are no main inworld resorces to fall back on as we would have in the real world. In the real world if you want to do something you know where to go or how to find out. In SL one finds there way to the support system or in the forums, answers, knowledge base... all in text form not inworld. Correcting this would not be overwhelming but it would require a set of well thought out and intregrated features, (hint: stops to make sure I do not get logged off).

Secondly is the inability to make an operational system operational. Occam's razor has been lost.

  5. Instead of filters, (wasteful programming) that give little choice they could use options. We have the option to show profile in search in our SL profiles so add one to view web profile which by default is unchecked. If we choose to check it off in our SL profile everyone can then click to view it, done.

Well not done, barely started actually. Why do we have three different web pages? The web profile, the about avatar web page and the dash board could all be . . . utilized to remove the social media clutter from the viewer allowing the viewer to once again be a viewer to view and interact with the virtual world and others in it.

  6. You are absolutely correct, this is something I have been working to change for a few years now with limited success.

I build simulations for real world companies and universities as well as facilitate and teach Virtual Emergency Exercises in SL and the biggest draw back I have is not selling my abilities to prospective customers but explaining what SL actually is and what it is not. If the businesses and universities that have already entered SL actually used it on a continuous basis this could improve the image of SL dramatically, this could take SL to a whole other level of respect that I know it deserves but the world is clueless to. Unfortunately there is usually only one person per company or school that run their simulations on behave of their company or school and they are already employed full time so they do not have the time or the 'know how' to use the system on a daily basis.

I feel it is this lack of 'know how' that is hurting SL the most. The user interface was not complicated in the past it just had a lot of tools to learn... however now the interface has become too complicated with the multi path clicking that has to be done for any and every one action one wishes to do, (professionals don't have time for this). It is this plus cost that is making many leave SL for other simplified platforms. Instead of simplifying the system for professionals SL had chosen to try to become a social network no doubt influenced by the massive user base facebook has gained.

As for facebook, customizing your avatar is done by changing one picture, your page is free and you fill in the blanks to express who you are and what you do... now compared that to customizing your avatar in SL and buying land and building an entire simulation on an empty lot. In facebook this would take a few minutes, in SL this would take weeks possibly even months. Then again you can not host a class on facebook, you can not have a lecture nor learn what to do in an emergency situation.

Besides if you really wanted to be friends you would exchange telephone numbers or email addresses not find each other on facebook.

facebook is a way of saying lets stay in touch but I really don't care if we do.

SL is way of interacting, experiencing, learning and socialize in real time.

  7. The entire idea of the name change was to offer greater options for new users, it is sad these greater options have resulted in To6367485960m type names, (and a lot of them). It seems the new users did not know, (could not know) what existing users wanted in the way of greater options in a name.

What was initially asked for the vast majority of the time was the ability to choose ones first AND last name, that's all.

Some people in SL scoffed at the idea of people creating groups for the sole purpose of naming it as they did only so it would show up above the profile name when in fact many of these are quite clever. It also seemed to slip the minds of SL that we could always use a tabber to place text above us as an attachment as well to identify ourselves as we choose.

All in all the name changing idea was and is a major waste of time, energy and server space. It adds nothing to the user experience but confusion especially for new users. It was never actually a problem, just a suggestion that has had an over kill reaction. With all the other bugs to work out of the system it is amazing this name change would even be considered.

I do see your point though, you don't want to be known as liver eport but then again Live Report is not really a name but more of a job title and/or description one would think.

  8. Thumb nail viewers can be handy but most images will just make you curious as in, "what the hack is that?" since they are so tiny, so you still have to open it to see what it is and usually wind up saying, "oooh yeeah!". I deal with this all the time on my web server and I find it faster to find images based on their name. Name your pictures well.

So if you are right clicking and selecting open to open each picture yes this can be tedious. Instead just double click a picture to open it, this is faster and you can open many many pictures in a few seconds this way.  The trouble then is waiting for the pictures to load however with many picture open all you have to do is click the top band of the picture in the back that you opened first, by the time you view a couple pictures this way all the the rest of them will be loaded and viewable. Picture organizes have this loading trouble that can not be avoided, you have to wait for each picture to load as your click through the organizer, ugh.

  9. Try opening SL, go to preferences, clear your cache, then change the Location at the bottom of the screen from 'last location' to 'type in location' and type in Aqua and then login. Then teleport to wherever you want to go from there. I don't know why Aqua but it worked for me.

  10. After reactivating your premium membership you could open the map, check off the Land for Sale button so the parcels for sale appear yellow on the map and double click to teleport to them and compare prices and locations. It will take a few teleports to be able to easily reconize the size of a 512 parcel on the map but it will be clear quickly. You then right click the land and select Buy Land, (you will have to buy it from the resident that currently owns it). Take your time comparing though, some are expensive and some very cheap.

  11. It seems the other link you provided says it all.

However for the eye effects you are looking for you could simply create eyes that have a "closed" looking texture or a "looking to the side", (not centered) texture... I just tried this and it works. In the texture just edit the eye it up so it will be looking to the left side or down so they are fixed looking to the right.

  12. I have only seen their ads from their affiliate program, (lil ads people can put on their web pages) but other than that I don't think they advertise at all. They don't seem to want to take SL seriously or to any extremes with ads and getting more servers if the ads did bring greater numbers of people. They seem to be scaling back on staff and changing their ceos over and over again. I fear the dream has been lost or realized with no other greater aspirations to go forward have been adopted.

The flaw might be the having control and not listening to the users that make the content worth having and keeping the system alive, the same downfall as myspace. Without their users myspace is all blank web pages waiting to be filled in. As for SL without it's users the mainland is being abandoned leaving more and more plain grass fields of nothing.

They have a lot of work to do on the basics before they can even consider advertising. They need a dream worthy that of virtual reality not a virtual world, an environment of people not a product and most of all a need to fill not a balance sheet.

  13. I have not found any extra ordinary lag over the past month, all seems to be fine. I am using 1.23 but I know there are compatability issues between viewer versions 1 and 2 which is odd since they are both from the same company. As far as I can tell there is only the reintroduction of Ruthiness on other avs, (I am still smoke to me anyway when loading is the issue which is not often). The grey avatars have always been around from time to time but it could be that you are just in a places that are high prim, high textures and high scripts that all add up to slower loading time especially in populated places.

  14. Well at the begining SL was called Linden world plus they still call their currency Linden dollars so... American dollars are for America, Candian dollars are for Canada, we don't have a currency for the planet Earth but if we did I think it might be called Earth dollars thus Linden dollars must be for Linden, the planet Linden. Just a thought.
