  1. Since she gave him the password she violated the TOS, not him. From Section 4.1 "You may not sell, transfer or assign your Account or its contractual rights, licenses and obligations, to any third party (including, for the avoidance of doubt, permitting another individual to access your Account) without the prior written consent of Linden Lab." You are required by the TOS to keep your own account secure and if you give your password out LL is not responsible for the consequences. From Section 4.2 "...You are solely responsible for all activities conducted through your Account whether or not you authorize the activity (except to the extent that activities occur because someone gains access to our system without using your identifiers and password). In the event that fraud, illegality or other conduct that violates this Agreement is discovered or reported (whether by you or someone else) that is connected with your Account, we may terminate your Account (or Accounts) as described in Section 5. You are solely responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your password and for restricting access to your Internet Device. You are solely responsible for any harm resulting from your disclosure, or authorization of the disclosure, of your password or from any person's use of your password to gain access to your Account or Account Name. You will immediately notify us of any unauthorized use of your Account, password or username, or any other breach of security related to the Service. At no time should you respond to an online request for a password other than in connection with the log-on process to the Service. Your disclosure of your password to any other person is at your own risk. We will not be liable for any loss or damage (of any kind and under any legal theory) to you or any third party arising from your inability or failure for any reason to comply with any of the foregoing obligations." She can file a support ticket and explain what happened. LL may or may not give her back her account. In any case she needs to be prepared to prove she owns the account and also accept any consequences of violating the TOS. If she had Payment Info on File, she should immediately notify her credit card or payment service company not to accept charges .

Go back to the store and see if they have a redelivery terminal. Most big merchants have them. If they do, you can get a replacement from that.
  3. The problem may not be the HUD but the boots not responding. Try rezzing both the HUD and the boots on the ground then resetting the scripts, if it is allowed. That usually fixes most issues like this. Otherwise be patient. The seller may be ill or out of town or have other RL issues that prevent them from logging in. You could also try to IM them, as many merchants have IM's go to their email.
  4. As pointed out, even if it were removed from your profile it still is information available through a simple script, so it is no way private. Aside from being a tool to keep griefers out, LL itself requires PIOF to to go gaming islands. So everyone on a gaming island has PIOF. I've been in SL since 2006 and have never heard of an account being truely 'hacked'. Everyone that claimed this happened to them, in further conversation it comes ou that it is always a case that the account owner was careless in keeping their account secure. If it bothers you so much remove your payment information. or use PayPal and remove the ability to buy Linden in the viewer. This way you will have to enter your PayPal password to buy any $L's as a second level of security. You can also use a credit card that protects your liability if the account is used for fraud, as long as you report it as soon as you find out.
  5. Nobody cares about your rank in these forums. True respect is earned among members of this forum by the substance of your posts.
  6. Second Life will be around as long as it is profitable. LL has no plans to shut it down even when Sansar is ready. Sansar is an entirely different world than SL in many ways. It is not SL2. The target market appears to be different to. So while SL residents may visit and some will move to that grid, I am not sure there is going to be a mass exodus from SL in the forseeable future. It's going to take a while, probably years, before the amount of content available in SL is matched by Sansar. So, IMO SL is definetly worth coming back to.
  7. Their green dot will still appear on the minimap and regular map.
  8. Check you group pages on the bottom left hand corner of the first tab to be sure it's checked to get group notices. If it is and you are a premium member, you can file a support ticket. Cobra Tech requires the board owner add you to the board for you to be able to manage it. It is not enough to just wear your staff tag. Your board owner should check to be sure they spelled your username exactly as it appears in your profile. If it is correct the board owner needs to take it up with the creator of the board.
  9. Try Shoutcast. Go to their website and select the genre you want and net radio stations that play that kind of music will come up. Select the station you like then download it to Winamp and hit ALT+3 and you will find the URL you need to play it on your land.
  10. Sorry you gave us too little information to help you. What happens when you log in? At what point of the process does the log in fail? Do you get a message? If so, what does it say? What type of internet connection do you have? Is it wireless or wired? What are your system specs? Launch you viewer go to HELP>ABOUT (viewer name) and copy and paste what you see there. Please do not create a new post to add additional information. Edit your original post instead. You can edit your post to add additional information by logging in to the web site, going to the post you want to edit, then clicking "Options" at the top right of the post and choosing edit.
  11. I assume you mean choose a location to log into other than home or last location. You can type in the name of any region or sim and you'll log in there. I am not sure if the SL viewer has this feature, but Firestorm and probably other some third party viewers do. You can add landmarks to your favorites folder or drag them to the top of your screen to create a Favorites Bar. You can then show those on the login screen by going to Preferences → Privacy → General and checking Show Favorite Landmarks at Login (via 'Start At' drop-down menu).
  12. Since they are grandfathered and the demand for them is probably higher than for a homestead that isn't grandfathered, I am sure they will be more expensive than a regular homestead. If you are looking to buy one, remember you have to own a full prim sim to own a homestead. Also always ask if the asking price includes the $300 transfer fee if it doesn't specifically say. That fee is charged to the seller so many sellers will include the fee in the asking price.
  13. Yes I am sure someone can. If you want one, post your request in the Inworld Employment section of these forums and describe what you are looking for. Be prepared to pay a lot more than the price of similiar necklaces inworld though since this is a one of a kind thing and will require hours of work for whoever makes it.
  14. If you have a mesh starter avatar, you will need to remove that mesh body before you can wear the maitreya mesh body. Just look in your inventory and under the 'worn' tab or type 'worn' in search and you should find the mesh body you need to remove.
  15. You can find web based rental systems that allow you to manage you rent boxes on the web. Two that I know of are Casper Tech and Hippo Technologies. To have your properties on a web site for viewing you will need to build a website, or hire someone to build it. The cheapest way is to start a blog on your own and show pictures and descriptions of the lots you own and the rental information. You could manually update them to show they are available or not and include a slurl in the description so people could TP right to them. If you are looking for a website that automatically updates, that is much more complicated and you need someone that understands scripting and the code needed to update the site automatically.
  16. HarrisonMcKenzie wrote: Probably a bot or something. I don't know how that works in SL, but that sounds like it. I think some chat clients don't fully log you in to the point of having an avatar, so that could explain why you are seeing them but not seeing them. When my partner uses his text only viewer on his phone, his avatar does appear at home, although he can't see anything or move it around etc.
  17. In addition to a notecard, you could put the attribution in the Description field of the sound's properties and make the sound no mod so it couldn't be changed.
  18. Each avatar is considered as a seperate account. Inventory items are sold for the use of one avatar at a time. You can pass obects with transfer permissions back and forth, but can't transfer copy permission items. Copy and Transer items can sometimes be shared between alts if the license that comes with them specifically states you may share it with an alt.
  19. I think we'll get more than enough of that type of insanity in RL in the coming 300 or so days.
  20. If you partnered your ALT you have to have a computer capbable of running two accounts at the same time. Many computers are not powerful enough to do this.
  21. Most mesh bodies do not include a head, so you classic avatar head will show. Heads are generally sold separately or, if included with the body, can be detached. Always DEMO any mesh body you are thinking of buying before you buy it. Keep in mind that you will need to either use the skin supplied with the body on both the body and your classic avatar so that they blend together. Alternatively you can buy skins with appliers for mesh bodies. Just be sure to buy a skin that comes with an applier compatible with the brand of mesh body you have.
  22. Be sure you have updated all your drivers. If you are sure you have the latest drivers, you are not providing enough information. What happens when you try to launch the viewer? If you can launch the viewer what happens when you try to log in? Get any messages and if so, what do they say? It would also be helpful to see your system specs. Please do not create a new post if you need to add additional information. Edit your original post instead. You can edit your post to add additional information by logging in to the web site, going to the post you want to edit, then clicking "Options" at the top right of the post and choosing edit.
