  1. You came here to get an answer on how to circumvent a ban. You didn't come here to ask the procedures to appeal a ban (you got an email to the address you associated with your account explaining how to appeal the ban). You asked a landowner how to get around a ban.........that, M4nuuBaynn, is what I was referring to about not being very smart. But, then, coming to forum owned and operated by the same people who banned you to ask how to cheat the system and circumvent a ban is not very smart either. So, you are not very smart on, at least, two levels.
  2. A ban can be circumvented.......there are ways. But no one here is going to tell you how. First reason is that most people here happen to like (even love) Second Life. Even with all it's faults (real or perceived). And second no one here wants a trouble maker in SL.....be that a griefer, copybotter, pedophile or just plain thief. Linden Lab uses the ban hammer very seldomly.......and when they do it's pretty much a lead pipe cinche that the ban was deserved and was for a major offense. In short, if LL doesn't want you around then no one here wants you around either. If it's for a ban from a region then the owner of that region (or parcel) has his/her reasons for the ban. It's his/her choice and no one here is going to intervene on your behalf. Take that up with the owner directly. If you figure out how to get around the ban and anyone gets knowledge of that think of what you did......you did something to get yourself banned then turned around and compounded your offense by breaking another rule. I would never help someone like that......in fact I'd ban you from my place for what you did to the owner. Editing to add: Lindal is a property owner.......and you just asked how to circumvent a ban. She is probably one of the very last people to ask about getting around a ban. You ain't very smart are you? :smileyvery-happy:
  3. Talk about "truisms". There are rules no matter where you inhabit (real or virtual). Someone (or some group of someones) create those rules. Those rule dictate what can and cannot be done in the world you inhabit. And, in turn, determines what culture is created in that habited world. Second Life or real world.......it's the same. It's the nature of human beings to create a society with rules.......rules that both limit and free the society created. So, what's your point? I didn't jump on the idea that you would like to observe the rats milling around a maze to see how the rats learn to survive.......but now I'm not so sure that that just might not be the case. Your excuse for not gaining any first experience was (or is) that SL is frustrating. Reading a "Dick and Jane" book is frustrating to a Kindergärtner or 1st grader......but mastering reading the written word is imperative if you are to survive in the real world. The only difference in the real world and a virtual world like Second Life, is that Second Life is optional......you can do as you did and just not participate. Some of us chose to participate so we fought through the frustation and joined the virtual society of SL.....and allowed the Linden Lab created rules to effect how we all became the society that makes up SL. If you had fought through that frustating first few days you, too, might have joined the society. You didn't so now you want us to fill in the blanks for your research. That brings me back to my first post. I won't do that....it's you job (or duty) to learn the culture of SL. Not us monkeys in cage (or rats in a maze). This research is important to you.....not at all important to me (or anyone else here who has responded so far). The reason is for your benefit......so do the work yourself.
  4. Linden Research is the parent company of Linden Lab. Linden Lab is the company that created and maintains Second Life. However, Linden Lab is the main company within Linden Research. So Linden Lab and Linden Research are interchangable......the Linden Lab part is referred to as the "owner" of Second Life (but Linden Research owns Linden Lab so Linden Research also owns Second Life).
  5. My biggest complaint about "research" threads is (and always has been) that the person doing the research are basically attempting to do nothing but recruiting experienced users of SL to do their work. They all seem to have some deadline (such as near the end of some semester so that the "research paper" can be turned in a graded). That deadline is always too short a time for any real research on the researchers part. What's wrong with first hand experience before you even think about interviewing anyone? It appears that you, yourself, are basing your questions on someone else's research. You do not appear to have much (or any at all) experience in SL.......you actually stated as much blaming "frustration" on that lack of experience. How in the world can you have questions to ask of the people you interview...........I mean questions arising from your direct experience, not someone else's. I'm not go to volunteer to help you get some research paper done unless you do the majority of the work ("work" being gathering experience). I know very well how I feel about Second Life and Linden Lab. I know that from my experience in SL. I would be somewhat willing to compare my experience with yours to help you get a sense of what SL is and all about......but you have no experience. You are aking me to a proxy you...........I won't do that.
  6. Unless you had to create a new account in order to post here, you are not banned (you also should have see a message saying like "You cannot access SL from this computer"). A failure to be able to log in can be due to almost anything. No one can help much without some computer specs and information about your connection to the Internet........the error message you get when you fail to log in is also helpful (though sometimes you don't get a message). For the computer specs launch your viewer (logging in is not necessary) under the "Help" menu click on "About Second Life". The computer specs will be listed. Copy those and paste back here (no personal information is given). For the connection you'll have to discribe that........such as wired or wireless, a home network, and, if you know, your connections speed. Don't start new thread to provide that information. Use the "Options" in the upper right corner of your post and "Edit". You can add any additional comments too.
  7. I've been reading these kind of "OMG, I've been hacked" threads for all of the nearly 7 1/2 years I've been in SL. And every one of those threads are by people who stupidly gave some information to someone that never should have been given. I've become somewhat callus I suppose...........I have no sympathy what so ever. If they are smart enough to turn on a computer and access the Internet they are also smart enough to take security seriously. If not then get the hell off the Internet before they get themselves hurt (or worse). I'm not one to coddle anyone who is old enough (they should be at least 16 years old and that is certainly old enough) to be in SL.....it's those type of people that eventually ruin things due to their stupidity. Look at how access to adult content has been restricted (not sexual context, adult content). It's because LL has to "protect" the stupid. Now watch..........I'm going to get warned again by a mod for my candidness. Oh well.
  8. 1 mbps download is more than adequate for SL. Of course that depends on whether or not that speed is actually being recieved from the SL servers. The only way to be reasonably sure you are getting that speed is to test it to the servers. You can get third party software programs to monitors your connection speed (many are free...check CNET download.com). But you can get a pretty good approximation for what your speed is by testing at http://www.speedtest.net/ . Just run a couple tests to both San Francisco, CA and Dallas, TX and take the average. If that 1 mbps speed is the speed your ISP advertises for your Internet service level, it's unlikely that you will get that exact speed........it will be something lower except on very rare occassions (that speed is the maximum you will recieve from your ISP and is effected by many outside factors.......you should get 75-80% of that speed on a consistant basis. If you don't then a call to your ISP is in order to find out why). With a speed of 1 mbps (1000 kbps) you should expect about 800 to 900 kbps actual speed to a local test server. Depending on how far (in Internet distance) from the test servers closest to the SL servers you are located it will probablty something lower. A connection speed to the SL servers of 500 kbps (.5 mbps) will give you fairly decent texture rendering and fairly decent FPS as long as you have the graphics capabilities (a good graphics adapter/card). If you set your preferences to roughly 75% of your tested connection speed you should get pretty good performance in SL (note: I did say you would, I said you should.....there are so many outside factors that no one can say you will). What you do not want to do is set your preferences higher than your connection speed will allow.......doing that will often create problems mostly related to packet loss. You might have problems with things like voice and streaming media which are in addition to the settings in preferences. 1 mbps is not ideal, I agree. But it's not too slow for SL. Something near 2 mbps tested to San Francisco and Dallas is much more ideal. You will never get more bandwidth sent to your viewer than the SL servers will send.........and that appears to be about 1.5 mbps (1500 kbps in preferences). You could set your preferences to 100 gbps and everything above what the servers send is just not going to ever be sent. I have a tested speed to the servers of about 13 mbps and I set my preference speed to 1.2 mbps (1200 kbps)..........I have never seen the bandwidth meter go above about 1100 kbps. I can maintain about 30 FPS (mostly more than that) in all but the busiest of areas. I have no texture lag in those same areas. I have a slightly higher spec'd computer than average and a decent cable connection........nothing fantastic, just a little better than average.
  9. I knew I could talk sense into you. Night night...........this girl is sleepy.
  10. And oh the disappointment when the customer can't rezz the box because the box is 4700 prims containing a 6 prim dinning room set. But if the point is having a fantastic delivery experience, mission accomplished. :matte-motes-sunglasses-1:
  11. There was a period when I was getting upwards of 30 mbps download and my plan was for 10 mbps!!! I always knew they would eventually figure it out and bring my speed back to my payment level.....they did after about 2 months. But, I actually could not see a difference in SL (or, for that matter, anything I did on the Internet). The Internet only goes so fast and I think all that speed the providers hype is nothing but a way to get more money from you.....a selling point to hook you into paying more. I'm still at the 10 meg level with tested speeds at around 9.8 to 9.9 consistantly..........I'm happy with it. You don't need much more than 1 mbps for SL anyway....5 mbps is more than SL will ever deliver to you by about 5 times. More certainly doesn't hurt but it really doesn't help either.
  12. The OP might be experiencing a temporary glitch. I have had that problem on occassion in the past but it never alarmed me since I usually use the keyboard cntrl C/V shortcuts anyway. I just figured it was some viewer loading issue that a relog fixes. I learned a long time ago that sometimes things get screwy in SL and if there's something so simple at a key board short cut works around then it's no problem for me. Besides, in the old days right click copy/paste never worked because of the way the viewer was coded.
  13. If he was using a dial-up the speed would be something like .056 mbps at the max. I think it's a DSL connection.......probably the lowest speed the provider sells.
  14. Your specs say to me that you are close to not being able to run SL at any setting above low. I'm sure you could run at medium with some significant hits in the lag department (only you can determine if that's acceptable). Your graphics is an on motherboard chipset (intergrated graphics processor or IGP). I have a computer with that IGP and I know it was capable or running SL using that video chipset....not well but it ran SL at medium settings. But that IGP could not run the newer viewers. I had to use the very old SL viewer 1.23 or (at that time) Imprudence.......nothing else would run SL at all (I could not log in). You need to find a viewer that is based on the old SL 1.23 code and those viewers are getting more and more rare. For a list of the TPV's check http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Third_Party_Viewer_Directory . And don't expect much luck with settings beyond medium (at the most). Another thing in the specs.........your system memory is 3 GB. That's just barely enough for a Win 7 machine and SL. You have a x64 operating system so you an use more memory........up to the maximum your motherboard will support (it probably supports up to around 16 GB). If you can get 8 GB it would help tremendously....but only going up to 4 would help significately. Your connection speed is okay but make sure you don't see the bandwidth in preferences more than about 500 kbps to avoid the risk of getting into a packet loss situation.......which will cause disconnects. I gather that's a DSL connection since most cable connections are at least 5 mbps. If possible I would either get a higher speed DSL or a cable connection...depending on which is cheaper (upgrade your DSL or get cable). For any reasonably solid connection you need a minimum of 1 mbps download speed..........you're close to that so that's why I say it's okay (but setting your bandwidth too high in preferences will likely cause problems for you).
  15. Interesting boxes are just that........interesting boxes. But if they are so interesting that it's confusing to the purchaser on just what to do with it, it gets complicated. For instance, a few years ago I purchased some boots and it can in a box that looked like a boot (the boots I purchased were packed inside along with the shoe base and instructions on how to resize the boots). I got confused (and a little pissed off) because the box was a boot but not the boots I purchased......it took my a few minutes to realize it was just a box that the boots were packed in. I think a simple and effective packing box is a box (any shape but keep it uncomplicated) with a picture of the product that is packed inside. Make it easy for the customer to know it's a box that needs to be unpacked. Remember, not all SL'ers are experienced and everyone is confused when first coming to SL.
  16. A place to start: http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Viewerhelp:Joystick_Configuration
  17. Are you crashing or are you getting disconnected from the servers? There's a difference and it's an important difference. It will help if you provide some computer specs. The easiest way I know is to launch the viewer and under the "Help" menu click "About Second Life".......copy the specs given and paste back here. Computer specs will help more for crashes. For disconnects your connection to the Internet is probably a little more important than system specs. Things like a home network and how you connect to that network (wired or wireless), the connection speed (try using http://www.speedtest.net/ with tests to both San Francisco, CA and Dallas, TX. The download speed is more critical than upload).
  18. For a Windows machine try control "c" to copy and control "v" to paste (I think Mac is cmd "c" and cmd "v".............but I'm not a Mac user so that may not be correct). I've had that problem on occassion in the past and the cntrl "c" and "v" worked fine. In fact way back when right click "copy and "paste" didn't work at all.......never.
  19. What's the bug you are experiencing? Not being able to connect does not equal a bug. It sounds like you are experiencing some other issue that is preventing you from logging in (or connect). Normally a failure to connect with the Second Life servers is an indication of something not quite right with your connection itself. That can range from a corrupted or incorrect network interface driver to the SL servers. There is absolutely nothing anyone can do here except throw out guesses about what your problem is that is preventing you from connecting (or logging in). Those guesses are not likely to help you much. So, do yourself a favor (a favor that will give you a much better chance for a resolution to your problem). Computer specifications...........we need them to help you. Also how do you connect to the Internet (wireless, wired, cable, DSL, is a router involved, etc.)? A simple way to get the computer specs that will help people to help you is to launch your viewer (don't even try to log in) and under the "Help" menu click on "About Second Life". Copy those specs that are listed and paste them back here. If you can't get to the log screen then you'll have to dig a little on your computer to come up with your video adapter, it's driver version, and your computer's system memory (RAM). That's the very least anyone needs and for your connection your download speed is important (it needs to be at least 1 mega bits per second or more for a solid, reliable connection to the servers). Please don't start a new thread to give that information. Go the "Options" in the upper right hand corner of your post and "Edit".
  20. A wireless connection that worked a long time ago (or 15 minutes ago) may not work at all now. Wireless connections require the data to be modulated on some RF signal that is transmitted from a transmitter to a reciever (both your router or modem and your computer wireless adapter are what is known as "transcievers".....the both transmit and recieve radio frequencies or RF). That RF signal is wide open to interference. Things like a new cell tower erected 15 miles from your location, someone walking pass your house suddenly finds an unsecured WiFi (your router), your neighbor got a new garage door opener with a wireless transmitter, or that brand new, 4 handset phone system you got for Christmas. I could go on and on on the possibilities but anything that is also wireless within your router's or computer's reception range can (and often does) interfere with your connection to the Internet.....and it does not matter if your wireless connection is the best that ever was, interference is interference and it will effect the best of the best. That's why wireless connections for SL is highly discouraged.
  21. Let me see if I got this correct. You sent a real life picture of yourself to someone and they sent it back to you because you and that person are not friends. Sometime later you find out that this person who is not a friend of yours had previously downloaded your real life picture sometime before you sent the picture to that person. And it's totally screwed up your life (the picture you sent?). Now for whatever reason you feel it's necessary to prove to someone (or some group of someones) that you are not that person. And finally you want to know how such a thing can be done. Well after muddling through your post to make some sort of sense of what you are asking I've come to the conclusion that you are in the habit of sending your real life picture to people.....even if they are not friends. That is not only not smart thing to do but it's right up there near the top of the most stupid you can do on the Internet. Now, if you have done that or continue to do that I can easily answer how 'how this can be done." One (or more) of those someones you have sent your real life picture to has shared your picture.........that's one of many ways your picture can get distributed in SL. Another way that is just as possible is that you are just as careless on the Internet with your personal information as you appear to be in SL.....your real life picture could be on thousands of websites. By the way, that's not "hacking".....it's you giving your pictures freely to someone and you not knowing the first thing about Internet security (it's your fault). One more way I can see how your picture could be given to others and you not being the person who gave the pictures to others. Someone accessed your SL account, found the pictures in your inventory, and gave the pictures to others (and him/herself). It's likely that the SL servers were hacked by someone to gain access to your account (I'm sure a hardcore hacker could breach LL's network but those types are criminals after more than just a few pictures or textures.......those hardcore hackers go after the big bucks like banks or personal information to gain access to credit cards. SL is not an attractive target for those type). What happens when people's accounts are compromised is that the passwords are guessed........or the person foolishly gave it to them. People tend to create passwords that are easy for them to remember and type......things like that cute kitten they got for their birthday. Then those people happily share the fact that they got the cutest kitten and named him Socks. And never miss the change to tell the latest cute story about what Socks did today.........it doesn't take an Einstein to guess that your SL password is "Socks". And since they already know your username they are into your account quite easily. As for proving that you are not that person (the one in the picture?). That's going to be nearly impossible. All the ways I've mentioned about how this can be done are entirely preventable. All it takes is a little knowledge of Internet security and a healthy dose of common sense. I think you need some work in both areas.
  22. Up until this last membership renewal I always recieved a notification about 10 to 14 days before my payment was due. My membership fee is due every three months on or about the 7th of those months. My membership for this quarter was due the 7th of December (a month and 3 days ago). I got the notification on the the 8th of Dec that my fee was paid. That is quite normal. However, I don't remember getting the notification 10 to 14 days before LL hit my account. I just put it off as I missed the notification (it's possible I would do that but I'm also pretty good about noticing things that cost me money) Now that you seem to have experienced what I experienced for my last membership payment I think maybe I'll be on the look out next February when I should get the advanced notification for the March payment.....if I don't get that notification I'll get billing a call to see what's up. Since October, 2005 I've recieved that notification like clock work (along with the notification about the payment being successfully made). I'm like you I guess. It's not earth shaking but it is unusual. I like to know when anyone intends to hit my account for payment (I don't have many things paid on a recurring basis but the ones I do I like knowing in advance that something is going to be taken out of my account). It appears you are not alone with the missing notification. I mean for over 7 years LL has always done it one way and suddenly it changes without any explaination is not something I like. But since I can't be sure I didn't get the notice in November I'll wait till next time before I raise any cane with LL (actually I won't raise cane unless I think I'm getting the run around........and my dealings with LL has always been pleasant so I don't anticipate a problem). I do want to know if the notifying policy has changed though.
  23. GTX 550 Ti. Driver version 306.97 (yeah I know it's not anywhere near the newest......but it works for everything I need my GPU to do). No issues, no crashes, and little lag.
  24. Linden Lab accepts some debit cards for payment. I use a debit card for my premium membership and, if I were to want to purchase lindens it will work for that too. I know some people have problems with debit cards and payment so a call to billing might be a good idea.........and they will tell you exactly how to delete your current payment method and create the new payment method for your debit card (basically I set my up just like I would if it were a credit card). However, if you are asking if LL accept checks (either paper or electronic) I believe that answer is no. My debit card is Visa and my bank is a major US National bank. ---------------------------------------- Have billing issues? Give us a call. Note that phone support is for billing issues only.
