  1. And? That list is - at best - unreliable.
  2. In other words, the "easiest" method they could have used and the one that presents the most problems in the end. Gee, and some wondered why there were users who said such a function was a bad idea ...
  3. Not really, no. You have to individually set online presence permission for those in your friend list and while you can set a flag to show you as "offline" to those not on your friend list... All scripts can still see if you are online or not and no, you cannot prevent this nor has Linden Lab accepted any JIRA entries requesting this behavior be changed - for good reason too as quite a few things require the ability to tell your status.
  4. Oh lovely, this topic made its way over here ... Got a gambling addiction? Get help. No seriously, get help. As for the laws being made in some countries: Each and every one that does so is in need of a serious reality check.
  5. As mentioned in another, similar, thread: I've so far only ever seen anything even similar to this bug when refreshing the shopping cart (have not tested the checkout screen) with a gift in it.
  6. Not a problem on that last - it's one of many options out there. On the rest ... their reputation is irrelevant to anyone not looking for RPGs and similar within Second Life, especially since they're not spamming people with animation requests.
  7. The options you have and some of the steps you can take have been laid out for you - continually complaining here will accomplish nothing. You face nothing at all new to many Second Life users, just a variation on a very old problem. One I am surprised it took so long to finally affect you. You do - however - seem to have this belief that your tenants/friends behavior is somehow more the "norm" ... Let me assure you of the following: How they act around you and how their friends appear to act is quite meaningless. Countless conflict based RP systems exist out there and all of them have community members that are simply arses. Bloodlines had a similar enough issue and though they relented (making a Garlic Necklace item that is now well known) the issue there was slightly different. Their system could be actioned as spam or worse partially thanks requiring interaction through a dialog box and to the fact that some of the worst types tried to hide interaction with the system as something benign - such as a hug. The system you're having issues with doesn't do that and thus, most are wholly unaware of being roped in. You really think that such a system will not attract - as their normal players - the sort you're having an issue with? Think again. Your complaint concerning Safe Zones ... Being as blunt as possible while still trying to stay within the rules for here: You're not part of the game. There is no reason whatsoever for them to designate any area as Safe if that area isn't participating. Like any unwelcome guest, you have controls/tools at your disposal already to handle the problem. Your "friends" however ... participate. They don't want to be bothered? They can petition to have their parcel marked. Amusingly, Estate Managers have the capability of banning whole groups these days - one more tool for you to use, if you have access.
  8. This is a public forum, the issue was brought up as an aside and you responded. Clarification information has been given concerning your response.
  9. A few things: The system you're using as security has a checkered past which includes blacklisting users the creator doesn't like - among other problems. Setting a scripted object at a higher altitude does nothing to combat script induced lag. So far as I know, no matter the security system, you're going to need more than one. Don't want the hassle of setting up lists for several of them? Get one that has copy permission and set up the lists on one of them, pick it up, rez that same one you just picked up back out and set the group again. Now you have a copy in your inventory that has a complete list. Don't want the hassle of having to do this again if you need to update the lists? There's bound to be a better solution than the system you're using. Prioritize getting this set up - you won't need to set your home to group only every time you log out then. Consider setting script use on the affected parcels to Group Only if things do not improve.
  10. Coming back to this .... Seriously? You just made it sound like a single bad instance has turned you off. There actually are decent, properly licensed full permission items/vendors in Second Life - go, find them and use their wares. Sheesh ...
  11. I've had hit and miss responses concerning quoting posts that are later reported ... Sometimes you actually can get in trouble for the quote, sometimes (more often) both the original post and your response quoting it are removed and rarely .... just the original is removed. Not worth it to me to quote a questionable/actionable post.
  12. Hmm, seems the person I actually responded to earlier did end up getting reported. Ah well. Time for an edit - if still within the window.
  13. It confused you - that does not mean it is universally confusing. That is the long and short of it.
  14. Why in the world would a content creator give permission for an item that was (as far as digital goods can be) stolen from him, to be used anywhere by anyone? You asked for permission, you were told the items in question were stolen, told they no longer even exist in his inventory and told that he cannot help you. No runaround was given - at all. You don't have the original creator's permission. Instead of persisting in the question once his response was given, you could/should have asked if the response you got meant that he was washing his hands of the item. If he said it did - no matter how the response is phrased mind you - then, perhaps, your confusion/reaction would be understandable as washing one's hands of it would imply that while direct permission from the original creator was not given ... They do not care enough to do anything should the thief give explicit or implicit permission. You blew it on getting such a response so now all you have is a long worded, blanket No.
  15. Except he did answer you - a direct Yes or No was not the only means to answer, at all. The age of the item in question is irrelevant - someone managed to access his account, transferred several of them with full permissions to another account and went on from there to "resell" items they had no rights/permission to do so with. "The item you acquired with full permissions is not legitimate, it was among a set that were taken from my account after it was compromised. I cannot help you." That is a "No, here's why." Again, not hard - at all - to parse. You were indeed, given an answer - no matter how you choose to view it/slice it/skew it. That's a simple fact.
  16. You got your answer: The item no longer exists in his inventory because someone else managed to access his account and transfer over several items, with full permission. Meaning the Full Permission item you bought (second hand) is illegitimate, hence the apology. That isn't all that hard to parse.
  17. (The text below was in response to a user who decided to "Name and Shame" in this thread, the post has since been removed) And? There's a handy "policy" section on each Marketplace store frontpage - check it before buying anything from anyone. Not all stores offer a Demo on the Marketplace for every item they sell - not ideal but it is what it is. Likely the Demo was at their in world location. Naming and shaming isn't allowed in the official Linden Lab forum - no matter what your feelings are.
  18. Heh, no worries on that! Yep, I'm the - often - cactus-like fox.
  19. Heh, the loading/unloading thing is a holdover from the days of Windows XP. The current system I am on - a shared rig no less - is on Linux, X Ubuntu. 16GB DDR3 RAM, an I7-4096K and a Zotac branded nVidia GeForce 980 (AMP edition) I cannot remember if it's 2GB or 4GB of VRAM. And yes, that's me over on (what is now) VVO - I thought I'd listed my Second Life account on my profile there ... Meh!
  20. Understandable and yeah, more often than not the issue is on LL's end. More or less it's an early warning system sort of thing. If a teleport stalls for example, it's usually not my end. Sim loading/unloading certainly is though!
  21. Heh, I've kept them on out of habit as well as a way to tell when a teleport has stalled and to give the computer a moment to unload the prior sim a bit more.
  22. You've never seen the teleport progress screen before - in the entirety of your usage of Second Life, really? Until TPVs (last I recall) you couldn't disable them being shown.
