It's only 3600 a year for a sim, the 1k is a one of payment to purchase the sim. They also have 4 full regions to a CPU(4 cores) and 8 homesteads to a CPU(4 cores). Im sure they could give you a full CPU per sim but it would then get super expensive to host all those servers and its not cost efficient, I am also sure they would also have to change the coding for the sims to register that its using more then 1 core

You only get a master slider outside of SL if you want to adjust the volume of the rest you have to do it from preferences that let you adjust each setting separately.

Sephy McCaw replied to wizzelone's topic in Second Life Viewer
problem with the viewer fully.. they messed with texture ordering in this release... best to drop back down to 3.4.1 to get rid of the blurry skins or you can spam rebake every timme you put on a new outfit. -

Suggestions to help with everyone looking...wrong?
Sephy McCaw replied to a topic in Second Life Viewer
Dose it look normal when your not wearing an clothes/ normal clothes, if so it's more then likely because you cant render mesh items from your viewer.... also onboard graphics aint all the good for such a program like SL it needs a graphics card -

New Retina 13" Macbook Pro cannot enable Lighting & Shadows
Sephy McCaw replied to Wastedyuthe's topic in Second Life Viewer
That is were you are wrong...It is NOT far more powerful... As I said... The specs of your macbook air and your macbook pro are exactly the same... They both have the same onboard graphics chip... They have the same amount of ram, you'd have an SSD instead of a HDD (only faster at loading programs and booting) the CPU is STILL a dual core... With slightly faster clockspeeds.... So no there's no difference at all.... -
New Retina 13" Macbook Pro cannot enable Lighting & Shadows

1500 - 1700 dollars for an apple laptop? You do realise you could of got a gaming laptop(one with a 680 nVidia card) for that price and then spent $15? On getting the apple operating system... Plus the Intel 4000 is an onboard graphics and onboard graphics don't have enough power to run a program such as SL with shadows... They should handle medium with a bearable FPS....Also.. if you check the specs you will probably see they are pretty much exactly the same in every way. -
Please, please pretty please help! (Mac help)
Sephy McCaw replied to Chihiro Trizomu's topic in Second Life Viewer
i am going to assume that your viewer forcequit after every attempt at turning on shadows?.... have you tried going to "Me > preferences> graphics tab> reset" from what information i have found your laptop is now 3 years old with a low spec graphics card that would not be capable of running shadows and if it did it would limit you to under 5fps My best advice would be is to just let the viewer handle your graphics details. -
pls help, after installing Viewer 3 ,texture turn pink
Sephy McCaw replied to Miko Ushimawa's topic in Second Life Viewer
This is a know problem, please visit the website of your graphics card be it either Nvidia/AMD and download the latest drivers, also make sure you clear your cache afterwards or you will still experience pink textures. -
The land impact is what you should be reading as it is mesh, to SL it is technically one prim but in the software that made it it is made out of 40 different pieces which gives you your land impact.... Its LLs way of limiting the use of them since they are many MBs in data for them to send down the internet highway

Considering the viewer is a 32bit program not a 64bit yes it would be limited to such.... Also if it is a memory leak what would throwing more memory at it solve except for giving you maybe another 10 mins?
-
LL only do viewer updates once a month, not a big deal really, not like they are pushing out new versions every week with one or two fixes.... They also do not force you to update your viewer (only mandatory ones that fix security flaws). you can set the your prefs to allow you to manually download and install your viewer.

theres has never been a way in the official viewer to turn off group chats, you can only turn off group notices.
-
If I am correct in thinking that button only turns off the speech bubbles that show up, it doesn't turn off the ability to see group chats

Cannot installed SL – PC full details.
Sephy McCaw replied to emmahobbins's topic in Second Life Viewer
Display driver is indeed correct, you should check if any of your other drivers need updating to make sure that there isnt anything else that will cause compatibility issues, but you can never tell with basic non gaming laptops either way. -
Question regarding VPN and Second life
Sephy McCaw replied to Syan Bates's topic in Second Life Server
Technically it could be done by anyone if they wanted to know your data that badly (think normal people are safe there) Your friend knowing how to do it would be the question you should ask him... My guess would be that he doesn't -

I Need Help Choosing A PC That Will Run SL Smoothly
Sephy McCaw replied to VauhnHelfer's topic in Second Life Server
I suggest that you should try and got for the newest of equipment if you can afford it, it doesn't have to be the top of the line components, an Intel 3570 (doesn't have to be the "k" model unless you plan of overclocking). A 660ti should be suitable for what you are need and at most you would only need a 650w psu to run them, they would also produce less heat in your system to keep it quieter. Also to add an SSD(solid state) will help too as it can read data faster then what is capable of a HDD(Hard Disk) P.S. I would suggest you keep away from PC manufactures as they will usually give you the bare minimum to run stuff just to run an operating system. -
vfs is the virtual file system aka your cache basically, you should find it in your app data (hidden file) and manually delete it, hopefully that should clear up your problem. Windows 7 - C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local\SecondLife\

First of all I would just like to point out the SL is not a game and never has been, there is no goal there is no achievements or the likes, it is for the better of words a social program. It requires more resources from your system then any thing else... running on 5+ year old hardware is just not going to cut it, if the fps you are getting does not suit your needs then you need to upgrade simple as that. No one has told you that you need to buy the best gear for your system to upgrade you could buy the 2 generations behind the current and it will still perform better then what you have. As for problems your experiencing of things disappearing... It could have been the viewer you were using, sl could have been under some stress as in a grid update, the sim you were on could of been having difficulties.... Since you've been working in the ?IT industry for 30 years? You should know not everything works 100% of the time... and also that if you can't find anyone else with the problem then yes... It's probably is you. Also for the viewer side.... LL only release a viewer once a month... They don't had new things all the time mostly they are bug fixes.. Plus you can check the release notes before trying it out to see what they did.... My advice to you is to stick with old viewer 1 for your old hardware.
-
More then likely that its because the 660 is brand new and LL haven't had time to test it and release viewer update to set the standard for the card. IM sure you will see an increase of your fps in the next viewer aslong as they don't break it that is.
