They'll ast least be paying for the moderation to get rid of them :smileywink: And that's another idea that's been around for some time - well since free accounts were allowed. Somehow I don't see that change coming soon. :smileyhappy:

I don't do much cursing in SL, except when the blasted sim is lagging and the build tools are being a pain.. but I'm on a moderate sim, so... Also, honestly? Teens know the curse words. I know I said them when the adults weren't around, when I was their age, and I was considered a goody-two-shoes. I was never all that interested in the adult side of SL, but when I want it, I know I can go and do it. *shrugs* So, not much has changed for me. Like you the 'arrival of the teens' had little impact on my SL, any changes seem to be peripheral and to do with the 'marketing philosophy' of SL rather than tangible changes... for now.

Lyra Blackthorne wrote: Yes and no...LL's reaction to teens has created lots of impact But, the teens themselves no...they are so few it isnt really even a big enough pool to warrant marketing to specificly I do wonder why LL turned the world so upside down (and I mean everything from forums to bringing the teen grid online) for a few kids. I really think they must have thought they were going to get a huge influx of new teen members/residents. The problem is that youngsters like to interact on the move with phones and iPads etc and SL is too 'bulky' for that. To me it has always seemed apparent that SL appeals more to those who for one reason or another find themselves at a desktop computer - either because they work at one or use it as a 'social tool'. (I use mine instead of TV). That's not to say some younger people wouldn't always be attracted but I do think LL might have had more success by aiming at the 30+ market (stay at home parents and people who don't have the opportunity to go out a lot due to children etc) or even 'silver surfers' who have the time, spare cash and would really fancy the opportunity to lose themselves in a fantasy world while enlarging their social network at the same time.

Last week, when the scam-spammer was using some user name like nmhrpdxgrtsml, I clicked on the name from the View All list and added it to my Ignore list. I then logged out and shut down my browser. I had some RL things to deal with. I have not seen a single one of those scam-spam threads since! It likely needed the log out, and I ahd logged out from both the forums and from the Dashboard, and it could be that you need to actually close your browser, but, so far, it seems to be working. Aye Henry - but that doesn't help the new people who pop in to thave a look at what's going on in the forum and are met with a blanket of spam. Or indeed people who don't know how to use ignore functions - which I find are pretty erratic anyway. Let's hope LL get their heads around it soon.
  7. Lyra Blackthorne wrote:<snip> Now clients ask for everything from very short to the very tall. Same with weight, used to be everyone wanted to be skinny but curvier looks are also in more demand. I love the diversity. I love the diversity too - apart from furries and other 'non-human' avis for a long time all the avis in SL seemed to follow the same basic pattern - tall and leggy (for the girls) big and bulky (for the guys) - these days I seem to be seeing a lot of people choosing to depart from that. It's very cool.
  8. It's always been the case even in the old forum that people could put banners in their sig - so yes - unless LL clamp down on it I guess anyone can. I don't have an SL business so I have nothing to advertise - apart from my genius... which is a bit lacking (unlike Oscar's)
  9. @ Kylie - I'm about 5'6" in SL too... it feels more 'natural to me.

  11. I bought my bear first thing this morning - I have also donated RL £ online - this is a genuine 21st C disaster and it affects each and every one of us as co-inhabitiants on this planet Earth.
  12. @Ossian - to be honest I think I'll keep avoiding them - not for any reason other than I don't especially see any value in us getting together as it were. Aren't they lucky! :smileytongue:

  14. Suspiria wrote: Just curious, why do you support people posting in off-topic to circumvent the CPG? I don't think anyone should receive preferential treatment based on which sub-forum they participate in. I'm not sure it can be considered 'preferential' if everyone can access it if they wish. Preferential would donate that there were restrictions on who would benefit from any lighter moderation. Choosing not to post in the Off Topic forum is not a restriction - it's a choice. Of course - I could always be wrong :smileyindifferent:
  15. Venus Petrov wrote: I think that LL should be able to block these spammers. That this new platform was released without testing what was common at times in the GD amazes me. I am not willing to limit creating threads due to the spammer. I would be willing to limit creating threads to up the quality and reduce/eliminate duplication. One can post as much as they wish, of course. *Grins - I kind of agree with your sentiments, but as we both know there are many who do not - for a diversity of reasons, some with more credibility than others in my opinion. To be honest I don't much like too many rules and restrictions myself - I remember that was one of the things that wowed me most about SL when I first found it - people could be anything they wanted to be without anyone in authority going ''tut''. How times change!
  16. Marianne Little wrote: It is much more easy to be shorter when furniture and builds are more sophisticated and closer to RL size. I am sure that people adjust to the crowd they hang out with. My motivation for beeing the height I am in SL has always been that I want to be in scale with the builds and furniture. Many things like motorbikes are no modify, and when they are made to fit a 6'8 avatar, a 5'2 start to look odd on it. I really started to feel that I got good toys to play with when I got an Aoba car. If I had the height to max, I would have banged my head and felt like a giant in it, lol. I read fashion feeds every day, and I noticed that when I see a male and a female blogger post together, the male is often 2 heads taller than the female. I wonder why, is it harder for men to be first in a group to be shorter? Females like to feel small and cute? It was really nice to meet a guy who used a Den-Dou shape and skin. For those not familar with it, it's a Japanese skin maker and the shapes are much more lean instead of bulky. I agree with pretty much everything you say Marianne, and I do think guys are a bit more 'sensitive' about seeming 'weaker' - not all of them of course but they do like their 'bulk' in SL :smileyhappy:
  17. Ossian wrote: Yes, it's made a difference. Not a big deal, but a few times in conversations it's become obvious that I'm talking to someone who is my daughter's age. I'm not generalizing now... just talking about the teens I've met, but they have short attention spans, and tend to run all over the place, to ask questions and ignore the answers, etc. It's fun, but it's tiring, just like real life, and it makes me feel my age. I'm not sure I've actually met any as yet as I tend not to go to 'G' regions much. I'd definitely feel like their Gran :smileyhappy:
  18. Venus Petrov wrote: As I wrote before in the old GD when some people were freaking out, it is much ado about nothing, at least inworld. I spend most of my time on M-rated sims and would not come into contact with any of the 300+ teens who transferred over. Now, mind you, there are a whole bunch of teens who were already on the MG. I wholeheartedly agree with your comment about the sanitization of the forums. The reason an Off Topic forum was requested (and an Adult-only forum) was so that we adults could discuss, argue, etc without soiling the G-rating face that LL want to project. Moderation in Off Topic should be with a lighter hand. That some have had hands tapped for posting off topic in and Off Topic thread is ridiculous. I think we all hoped an 'Off Topic' Forum would become something akin to the old GD but without the bitterness - it was not to be. Off Topic still has to be directly about SL, but might not fit easily under any other heading - it also has to remain totally within a 'G' rating. Like I keep saying - I can understand marketing strategies but it's a shame that the ability to debate and argue without feeling like we're back at school now seems to be a thing of the past.

Caitlyn Gothly wrote: I think avatars are definately getting shorter.....they used to call my avatar "the amazon" lol cos she was always around 90....but now i usually have her at 80, i know thats still tall but i am 6ft in RL so have to reflect that...lol :-) Cait Lucky you being tall in RL - I'm a shortass at 5'4" and I always dreamed of being 5'8" or so....
  20. Heart Brimmer wrote: Not that I have noticed. But, I mainly stay on Mature land so IF I have encountered any, they kept their mouths shut. LOL. Heart Me too Heart - but there were so many predictions of doom... Mind you - I still think it was a bad move by LL and the sanitization of the forums stands as testament to that. I really do believe that SL/LL had a far more lucrative future gearing itself to adults - especially those with a bit of time on their hands and money in their pockets and willing to 'play' again with fantasies of being young or whatever.
  21. My thoughts are with everyone affected as well - it's a truly horrific event. It's incredible to see one of the great 'nightmares' developing at Fukushima -all we can do is wait and watch and hope that for all our sakes this can be 'controlled'.

  24. Willow Danube wrote: <snip> Since the spammer is only attacking the Forums at certain hours of the day and weekends, we can limit creating new threads to groups ranked as Member and above for over a period of hours. Any threads created by anyone else are limited to 'emergency' purposes and must be addressed in the Answer section. Posting as replies however are unlimited and subject to moderation. That's another approach - though the spam is worse at 'Euro hours' so that could inhibit a whole section of the globe from participating fully in the forums. Food for thought though :smileyindifferent:
  25. Adromaw Lupindo wrote: I had early encouragement with being conscious about the avatar height from both role-players and a friend content creator. The more that content creators lean towards on that direction, I suspect, the more that trend could be carried. I agree Adromaw - although my builds are few and far between from here on I intend to only build within scales that are roughly close to 'realism'.
