  1. Right now I have no need to lose weight in either world, but I might check out the fitness aspect - getting back to running after over 2 years of absence due to ill health and injury I can do with all the support I can get :smileyhappy:
  2. I agree actually, (especially when so many people make disparaging comments about the 'middle aged, fat people' that apparantly populate SL) it seems a fitness programme supported by SL attendance at weight loss programmes is at least as successful as RL ones. That can only be good news for those who struggle a bit to lose weight ot get a bit fitter. And there's no need to suffer the looks and 'sympathy' of those super sleek ones who seem to hang out at the RL Gyms - putting us mere mortals off.
  3. Here's the link people... http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-13643471 See - it's not all doom and gloom :smileyvery-happy: Now to join a Gym - or build one!
  4. OH MY - everyone got what a lot of people (including me) have been asking for... ... and we're still complaining. PEOPLE!!! :smileysurprised: Like Venus I'll wait and see the end result and then take time to get used to it befoe making any comment either for or against.

I have been at the computer for only about two minutes this evening after a long hiatus, and I will probably have another one immediately afterwards (a hiatus, that is, not a computer). This is factually inaccurate and a slur on my illustrious name. Also, I am very helpful indeed. I flag for spam where I see it, for a start. I second that emotion (or was it motion?) - more or less :smileyindifferent:
  6. It's not a 'commercial' build but it is very open and welcoming for anyone to visit and spend time there. The music is kind of good (according to me) mostly, the dances are pretty cool, and it's got a relaxed, fun atmosphere (I think). There are no private bits to it - it's meant for people to wander about and see what they can see, and of course, I'm still faffing about with it so little things change all the time.
  7. OK - this is my wee spot - it's my version of an Irish Pub (bit more 'real' than some). It's on a 2816 parcel and I have a small skybox/office in the sky (wayyyyy up). And this is a pic of the small bedsit/flat above the pub... Lovely to see veryone's places from unusual angles. :smileyhappy:
  8. I potter about InWorldz a bit and even rented land there for a while. Apart from it's 'beta' type status and it's ongoing problems with scripts, I do believe that one of the things contributing to its poor performance is the 'bazillion' prim allowance and to a lesser extent the common use of huge megaprims. Sometimes the restrictions we complain most about on SL are actually the things that help deliver decent performance - comparatively. My take on really high land prices - sometimes people use it as 'publicity' for a business even if the business isn't actually located on the parcel for sale. But there may be some sort of advertising like a build or some other items that the owner has left about hoping that people will be curious enough to check out. Sometimes of course people just like to see what offers they will get - or the reaction of others.

The first time I had one of those 'I laughed so hard, tears rolled down my cheeks and I could not catch my breath' times was in a club very early in my SL where I and two other friends donned objects that turned us into bulls having their way with cows and making loud bull-like noises. I still have that object and it still brings a wide grin to my face when I recall that fun. The dude we had surrounded was agast at first then laughed with us. That cow that y'all are riding is also an olde object. The first time I saw it, a guy had it on in that same club and had a 'boing' gesture that made him and the cow jump up and down...too funny...the local chat was hilarious. Good times. I have that cow complete with the 'boing' - got it when I was quite new to SL and it was one of the funniest times I've had. I did feel ill - from a combo of 2 hours of cow boinging and laughing. Flick - whereever you are - thanks for the cow :-)
  10. Almadi Masala wrote: How about simply notifying adjacent landowners when an abandoned parcel is up for sale? That couldn't be too hard to do. I agree - of all the suggestions a simple email to the other owners on the sim seems to be the simplest . Unless of course some of the other owners are 'land sellers' - but then someone might be trying to sell their land because they need a bigger plot and as such the possibility of buying more might mean they wouldn't need to sell. etc
  11. Perhaps this will be the impetus LL needs to do something about bots. Personally I think bots have a role (though I wouldn't miss them if they were gone) but perhaps a scripted object should not be able to buy land for a few hours after it goes on sale or something like that.
  12. Chaos Mohr wrote: Guess again - All of the recently abandoned land IS showing up in search and IS being sold regardless of location (I just saw a number of protected waterfront plots get snatched up by landbots yesterday). Your land is up for Auction because this only started with newly abandoned land as of yesterday. If you look in land search there is now quite a bit of Abandoned Land listed at L$1/meter being sold by LL And you are certainly right, no matter what LL does, it won't suit everyone, but in this case it does certainly suit the landbot owners who are smart enough to leverage another one of LL's new policies to their advantage. Well all I can say is the abandoned land near me went straight for auction on the day it was abandoned - yesterday. I know this because I was watching - living here and all. As for search on the wiki it says it won't show in search, so that's something LL need to sort if it's happening. Haven't seen any in search myself but then one would need to be living near to know I guess so I'll defer to your greater knowledge on that. Just as I guess you'll have to take my word about the land alongside me. :smileyhappy:
  13. Chaos Mohr wrote: As usual, LL has once again helped the select few and seemingly screwed everyone else. Landbots can be set and many are set to be selective by setting filters for price and location. While for general land they won't buy anything that isn't a small percentage below the lowest on the market, many are set to snatch up land in highly desireable areas at higher rates (meaning they will definitely get the land set a L$1/meter if the land is in one of these areas). This means any Adult rated land (which is selling well above L$1/meter), waterfront, protected land, bay city land etc will pretty much be the landbot owners if they so choose. This screws the regular people who have been waiting for certain parcels of this desirable property, as the Landbot owners will certainly set the prices well above what they pay for it. In addition, this will certainly keep the market stable for a short time, until the landbot owners flood the market with land that has been dumped to them (people that need to dump land just keep setting their land lower and lower until a landbot snatches it up, not realizing that if it is set at the bottom of a market and they wait a few minutes, usually a real person will buy it.). This will of course push the market down below the L$1/meter threshold enough so that the crappy abandoned land will start to clutter up the lower end of the market forcing people to sell below that price. Sure, this will help lower the amount of abandoned land, which certainly is a problem, but once again LL is helping the select few profit while screwing over the majority of the population of SL - Jack Linden 2006: "yes Linden Labs is aware of the issue of landbots and are working to eliminate them from buying land in Second Life so that everyone has a fair chance" - 5 years later and if anything they have made it easier for landbots and their owners to enjoy their profits I must point out that in the 'highly desirable' regions LL are still setting land for auction. Land by me was abandoned last week ans is up for auction at the moment. I have a feeling the land bots won't do too well out of this - especially as LL aren't advertising their land in 'search' which is how the land bots find the deals. As I said earlier - what ever LL do it won't suit everyone - there will always be someone with a better idea - for them
  14. I think no matter what they (LL) do it wouldn't be good enough fot everyone - by offering it for instance to the biggest adjoining owner first they would be accused of helping land barons get bigger (or helping creat new ones) - and so on. To a degree what they have done is probably the best over all way of doing it. What they could do I think is set the land with an 'intention' of sale sign on it. So that local landowners would have a chance to see it was going up for sale in maybe 3 days. Of course if someone only logs in once or twice a week and isn't very good at checking stuff like that - chances are they will always lose out.
  15. Somewhere between 0 - 24 hours apparantly - which is kinda confusing shouldn't it just be up to 24 hours - much clearer. (When a mainland parcel is abandoned, there is a short period (from one hour to 24 hours) when an owner can reclaim the land if he/she abandoned it in error.)
  16. Thanks for stepping in with your thoughts Marigold. This thread is taking on a life of it's own, so much though I'd like to take credit for that I can't. I too find the thoughts people have contributed here to be insightful and most important - human. I love when people actually 'talk' and share ideas rather than trying to score points - for that there are so many people on this thread I want to thank. Quinn usually sums up things nicely and I am so chuffed at how honest people can be. As has been said so many times - this isn't about imposing morals or anything else - just a discussion about how people in/on SL see the people they associate with. I too become weary of the 'it's just a game and if someone doesn't see it like that and allows themselves to get hurt that's their problem'. It is if people have been up front and honest about what they are willing/able to give or share - other than that - it's just another excuse. Or I could be wrong of course... Perish the thought!
  17. Oooh - looks really nice - perfect for a holiday from the drab reality of RL (well mine anyway). Looks a real restful, fun place Cali - nice :smileyhappy:
  18. I think she managed to get out of Basic Mode no problem - it's the 'loss' of inv that's the problem. @ Lucretia It may take a while for it to show maybe going to a really quiet low lag sim and logging out so you log back in there might help. And wait for your whole inv to load before doing anything - go make a coffee or take the dog for a stroll or something. If that doesn't work maybe contacting support might. Good Luck
  19. Now you don't make being single sound a bit boring :smileyhappy: I'm glad your SL is working out well for you these days... keep having fun.
  20. I popped over last night Valerie - it's a great place full of odd bits and pieces that makes it fun to look about an explore - well worth a visit - I bet it 'bounces' when there's a party on :smileyhappy:
  21. Any time Cali - give me a poke but be warned I talk/type a lot and I tend towards bluntness :smileyhappy:
  22. We (as people) quite often find ourselves doing something which we inherently 'know' to be wrong, that doesn't make us bad people - it makes us imperfect humans. I know of many people in SL in your situation - people I like and respect. What people 'do' isn't really the issue/concept I'm kicking about here - it's how people think about what they do. I think you're a pretty in tact person. Better an imperfect human than an unfeeling machine any day in my book. And right now you're not actually 'cheating' though your SL partner is - I've always wondered about the propensity of people to blame the single person for extramarital affairs when in reality they are not the ones who made the promise of fidelity or whatever. I hope things work out for you in both worlds.

Pep (Get real; SL is a cartoon world filled with lots of people that lie, cheat and steal - and a few that cry about it.) Actually if you read my orignal post I was referring to RL too... oh and even in a virtual world commiting fraud is still a crime - even if it would be difficult to take to court. Regarding your comments about my intelligence/perception I will allow you to fantasise all you want as you so love doing so.
  24. Pep wrote: @Mags: You are, of course, quite at liberty to believe in and operate in accordance with your own morality . . . Pep ( . . . but you are not entitled to impose it upon anyone else; if you use the word "bad" then be aware that it is only you that understands what it means.) Ok I totally accept that not everyone will see people who lie, cheat and commit fraud as bad guys or even bad. The fact that I stated I do is merely a personal foible not to be confused with me imposing my morality on anyone else - heaven forfend!
