    New Community Platform Update

I'm sure we will survive the period of hardship known as the frozen days.

Hey since you seem to be still communicating, will we be getting credit in the new system for our past participation or is it going to be a hard reset and the GD clique take control with the Lithium system's rewards system and drive the rest of us away permanently?

There is potential for abuse of income reporting in SL through the use of alt accounts, collectives and schemes to use inworld payment to escape taxes on real world goods and services.

    ...

No there isn't. You cash out to paypal (on a bank account verified paypal account) or LL writes you a check and LL doesn't write you a check unless it is for over $10k which they have to report. Since paypal reports to the IRS there is no issue except for those that try to evade taxes.

Stop trying to raise a spectre when there is none.

BTW, do you even pay federal income tax?

  2. Nothing LL does matters now because they will not respect resident right to privacy. The epidemic of spyware used by residents is out of control and people are beginning to leave. I hope LL likes having the few customers that use that stuff. I hope the spyware users can afford to pay all of LL's costs and salaries.

This sort of behavior is banned in other grids. LL needs to get a clue. Even though Rod Humble suggests he cares about privacy in interviews with bloggers there is absolutely no movement by LL on this matter except by Oz to try to stifle dissent over it. Therefore we may assume, despite the LL CEO's comments to the contrary, that the people that actually control LL are part and parcel to these operations and grant them full support.

Hopefully the do not track bill will pass and make it unavoidable for LL to get rid of residents using spyware.

  3. watchers is as easily falsely influenced as votes.

That said, to me, a defect reporting system should not be mixed with a feature request system. A feature request system needs voting. Defects should be triaged and evaluated based on the quality of the documentation and repro steps and then the severity and priorities guide the decision process. Neither votes nor watchers should influence whether or not a severe defect is corrected. And history has demonstrated amply that a severe defect requires no votes or watchers at all for LL to correct it.

So I recommend you guys construct a better feature request system. Then there is a different category called customer concerns. Currently there is no persistent communications medium available for concerns.

  4. I assume the guidelines have always applied in or around Second Life® so no big change to me.

I see references to "joining user groups". Where do we "join" a user group? How do we express interest in closed user groups when they are not published? Does participation in any user group require an NDA? This aspect of this communique is somewhat ambiguous to me as I could not derive the needed information from the post.

    Thanks in advance.

And thank you for that calendar. My sticky note taped to my monitor is somewhat annoying and may now be retired.

I can't attend these things lately, but just wanted to go on record as saying I am also in favor of this.

    ....

Because LL currently denies most payment methods to people outside of the USA due to LL's contract with an international gambling syndicate for payment processing.

I think this baffles many of us. Perhaps the push to have RL info in the public profile has got to do with this.

The Like button, however, has nothing to do with the FB profile as it will only establish a link between am arbitrary Facebook account and an arbitrary SL profile if clicked. So unless you like yourself from your FB account, there is no immediate link that can reveal your identity.

Actually it is well documented that just having the FB like button appear in your browser transmits data (via tracking cookies) to facebook for tracking.

How else do they identify you as someone interested in all the fake fb accounts that have avatar pics on facebook?

The NSA must be gloating over how easily they got the entire planet to willfully be placed under surveillance.

To me that's kind of like saying successful business people don't burn time reading the WSJ.

I see the point you want to make. However to compare these forums to the WSJ is ridiculous. The only comparison can be made to weekly world news. Even I have begun looking here less and less because LL's blogrum forum is an unmoderated cesspool of drivel for the most part (except in the technical forums where the forum remains useful).

Looking in these forums is like seeing a picture of batboy on the WWN at the grocery store checkout.

It seems that the word Rapa may be the culprit. Try removing it from the title, the listing description and the keywords.

Yes, I know its not logical but that is LL for you

OK no historical Easter Island simulations in SL to showcase the Rapa Nui Civilization then.

I assumed most any college graduate would know about the Rapa Nui. Or cable TV history channel watchers. Or even movie channel watchers. Pretty damn hard to not know about Rapa Nui IMHO. Especially since the Rapa Nui (the dark part of their history) are a textbook example of what is going to happen to humankind if we don't change our ways.

  9. Sweet. I'm pretty sure I had an ancient jira feature request for something like this. Better late than never.

Now post explicit guidelines as to exactly what is G, M, and Adult. Or face an endless migraine of screaming, bitching, and exceedingly negative press.

LL has never issued exact explicit guidelines on content ratings (leaving it to the discretion of low level LL staff opinions potentially influenced by personal friendships and political ideologies). It is time for your General Counsel to step up and post the exact and explicit common english guidelines for content rating. Including the "word list".

    Thanks.

Profiles that open in extern webbrowsers only?

Hmm, that kind of sucks to be honest. I see SL as a game still, meaning I rather want to do everyting in the viewer itself, without having to ALT-TAB constantly.

Not only do the profiles load in the client but you can have multiple profiles open at once. However, you cannot drag and drop inventory items on these new web page profiles.
