  1. Seconded. Thanks to April Linden and all the team for the hard work on Sunday especially. It is reassuring to see such coherent accounts of what can and does go wrong with that mass of servers that we call SecondLife. :smileyvery-happy:
  2. Well, it would seem that I posted during the time it took to post the "Oops it's not fixed yet, is it?" post. There is STILL ongoing Maintenances, and I would hazard a guess that this time it really is the big Asset Server Cluster failure that LL have been dreading this past year. This won't be a quick fix. :smileysad:
  3. Yay, the server failure is "resolved". Oh...wait...Ninja editing... The whole post has vanished and all the bookmarks give 404 page not found errors. :smileysurprised: Nice move Linden Lab. Thanks for fixing the issue (assuming it's not just another band-aid) but totally deleting the post?? Who are you trying to protect? :smileymad:
  4. Tenly This has been going on for some time now, see this thread: Some may experience login problems to the Beta gri... If need be, file a trouble ticket with LL over this.
  5. *sigh* Linden Lab left hand, please meet Linden Lab right hand, it seems you are not aquainted. For goodness' sake people get your act together. There WAS nothing to roll, so the announcement must have been some sort of automatic system. If that was NOT true then your lack of coordination is breathtaking in its incompetence. Most of us would like to trust the GSP, so that we could plan our SecondLife activities, but it is wrong these days more often than it is right! :smileyfrustrated:
  6. To all at Linden Lab, at Battery Street and beyond Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year ...oh...Happy Holidays to those who don't celebrate Christmas :smileyvery-happy: Also to those denizens of SL, who come here in desperation, frustration, irritation, or, like me mostly in confusion, Merry Humbug!
  7. Caleb I hate to carp when Lindens actually DO communicate with the great unwashed users, but shouldn't a comment like this be put onto the Grid Status Page? That's what it is for, surely, even when it is Aditi? :smileyfrustrated:
  8. Caleb It is now Saturday 12th and the Grid Status Page STILL shows the RC channel roll as ongoing. For pity's sake, just get the page updated. Has the Roll completed or hasn't it? :smileyfrustrated:
  9. Caleb I notice that the RC rolls which were commenced on Wednesday are still not flagged as "resolved" on the GSP. Taken with Cully's post, is the roll still ongoing and are there issues? :smileysurprised: ETA 11th December (Friday, 7:30am PST): Hello, LL, is this thing on? Still no "Resolution" on the RC channel roll.
  10. In a situation like this clearing cache will be unlikely to make things better and may actually make things worse. Try this: Go to "Current Outfit" and see if any of the four "essentials" are not worn (that's shape, skin, bald cap (sometimes called "brows") and eyes. If any of those are missing your avatar won't load. what is happening is most likely an asset-server glitch. It may clear itself, it may not. The Linden asset server is not able to rez one of your assets (ie items you are wearing). It may even show as "worn" locally, but the giveaway here is that if you try to remove it you cannot. It may even be that you cannot replace it. If that is so make up a folder of the basics as I outlined above, place them in a new folder, then right click the folder and "replace folder" do NOT try to wear the items separately. Once you are loaded, you can restore your regular avatar one item at a time untill you are as you were, or the troublesome item is identified (it won't rez). Good Luck. It is worth noting that SL seems beset with all manner of asset-server related issues at present. LL do know and are, I imagine, "Banging on things" to fix it.
  11. The reason no-one recommends a bandwidth over 1500kbps even with a fast modem and fibre is that the SL servers cannot send information at more than 2mbps even under ideal circumstances and over a short net hop. So if you set BW too high all that happens is that the viewer doesn't see the expected packets and flags them as "lost". It also confuses some of the base code but I don't know the detail of that. Wi-Fi is set to 500kbps because of the pulsed nature of Wi-Fi (I gather).
  12. I guess we can take it that there will be no Main Server Roll next Tuesday as a result of this...nothing to roll, I assume?
  13. OK...so now there IS to be an RC roll, but tomorrow. Would it be unreasonable to ask WHAT is to be rolled? Has the original software been debugged or is this a whole new ball game? @Whirly, may I get a copy of that hat now, please? :smileysurprised:
  14. @Whirly ...:smileyvery-happy: @Caleb...thanks for confirming the common-sense decision.
  15. I'd like to think that LL would not be so foolish as to roll that RC channel software with such a glaring BUG in it. Some positive feedback would be comforting. It's not as if Whirly goes around prophesying the falling of the sky, now is it? :smileysurprised: Mind you, by the same token this is a BUG that QA really should have picked up. :smileyfrustrated:
  16. I'm inclined to say "Better Late than Never" about the timing of this post, but it is more important, I guess, that we now know what the RC channels' sims are in for this week. It didn't take much guesswork to figure out what was due for Main Server after all. It is interesting to note that the Main Server roll took much longer to complete than usual (apparently) and that this thread did not appear until almost half an hour after that roll had completed. Clearly the buggy software that was dropped on Magnum last week is not being promoted.
  17. Yeees Well, it'd be nice to think that by now they'd actually got the job done (always assuming some technician didn't drop his pliers inside one of the server -racks)..... Still Server-Thread he say nuttin'. :matte-motes-confused:
  18. Hello Caleb WAKEY WAKEY...Deploy notice please! :smileytongue:
  19. Oh Dear (again) A careful look at the Server-Release codes on the Thread heading post from Caleb for the RC channels show that Magnum is indeed running a different batch of code to the other RCs despite the wording. I would hazard a guess that it's nothing more than an editing blooper, but as with so much from LL of late, it simply adds to the confusion.
  20. Qie, My main beef was that although the first announcement was made about the roll, by the time I looked, earlier Tuesday UK time the start announcement had apparently been made and that must have caused the original post and the update to vanish from the blog, 'cos even those who'd seen it got Error 404 if they'd bookmarked it and used the link again. The announcement subsequently returned once the Roll was complete. Coupled with the delay of posting the Server Rolls details in the Server Thread, I had NO IDEA what was going on, despite being able to guess. Also at the time, the Release notes pointed to a Server Version not (apparently) scheduled until next week (?). All in all a bit of a SNAFU, really. You might be able work out what was going on, but at the time I could not. In the end it's all done and no animals were harmed in the making of the roll so all's good. :smileytongue:
  21. Never mind the state of Denmark, is there or is there not to be a Roll on Main Server this week? Google calendar, he say yes, Server Thread, he say nuttin'. OK, LL, what gives? :smileysurprised: Y' see, my sim HAS been rolled and is now on 15.10.14.3305984, yet if I chase the server version link in my viewer, I discover that the release notes are a month out of date! So essentially I have NO idea what the server software running actually IS! :smileyfrustrated:
  22. Caleb this is getting serious! DE Designs has an absolutely classic caps failure, it needs a restart. I TP'd there a few mins ago. Mesh would not rez either worn or in-sim and most folk were just flailing around after TP DE Designs (94,132,39) is the url. Please get in-world support to deal with this. I managed to TP out but others crashed on TP.
  23. To anwer your question, Caleb: Never seen this behaviour on any previous update The Linkset belongs to another on the sim I'll get the co-ords of the linkset shortly and a JIRA filing will follow ASAP ETA: Linkset owner Rachael Ezvalt. NB the set is not currently relinked. Co-ords are 90.6, 56.7, 899.6 at Woods of Heaven sim 9067. ETA 2: JIRA report created: BUG - 10411
  24. Well! I am not going to even try to explain today. How in heaven's name a restart to new software can cause a previously linked set to be unlinked and for one part to rez 25m above all the other parts is beyond me. Perhaps someone wiser than me can comprehend it but I for one cannot. Thankfully we actually did not lose anything this time. What on earth is wrong with these recent updates, Linden Lab? Did You actually test them at all??
  25. Oh Dear Woods of Heaven sim. After restart several partial objects missing. Am restarting the sim. Not Good.
