  1. I use twitter! Please follow me @charliesheen
  2. How do I use an uploaded image as my personal avatar? You can use any approved image you've uploaded as your personal avatar. To use an uploaded image as your personal avatar: Click My Settings and click the Avatars tab. Click From Uploaded Images. Click an image to use it as your personal avatar.
  3. Thanks Torley! I was going to refer a new resident using V2 to the wiki for info on how to take snapshots but then I realized the current page still refers to the 1.x series of viewer. It would be great to have V2 specific information as well for the noobs. I'm sure it's on your very long to do list and I know residents can update those wiki pages but you're so good at it ... /me laughs and runs away.
  4. I think that's been fixed. My brief testing showed my chat logs generated as plain text in the latest beta and dev builds.
  5. One more item about "Display" Names --- "Log" Names... How are the log files named when you chat with someone? By user or display name, or both? What is displayed on *every* line of chat that is logged? user or display name, or both? See, the problems that people have mentioned go beyond display. If the username is not used as the name of a log file, it's not good enough. If the username is not showing up for everything that is logged for what they said, it's not good enough. If it is too easy for someone to lift quotes from log files that *only* show display names, it's not good enough. Think beyond display. Display is transient. The potential damage done by log files that hang around and give an inaccurate picture of what has transpired is something to be concerned about. If 2.3 addresses all of these issues, cool. My hunch is that it doesn't. And if the Lindens say "oh, just file an AR in case you have a problem with someone abusing your name", I would say to them: you've cut your support staff and your hours -- do you really want to deal with a stream of ARs? shouldn't you be addressing the problem, instead of the symptom? the documentation trail of people's concerns is a mile long on this one - do you really want to end up in legal trouble by not doing the right thing? There is a very predictable series of events here... This is how chat is logged when I briefly tested it last evening (Display name: Joshooah Username: joshooah.lovenkraft): Joshooah (joshooah.lovenkraft): ya i guess they'll roll it out soon enough Joshooah (joshooah.lovenkraft): ok folks i'm outta here so have fun! Joshooah (joshooah.lovenkraft): /me waves and poofs
  6. Ya I think version numbering got messed up, hence my confusion with the splash screen stating there was a newer version available. I can get the wrench icon to now appear but you need to be in an enabled region such as this: ** (Edit wrench icon only appears in the enabled regions such as http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Blake%20Sea%20-%20Kendra/144/124/2)
  7. Are those download links in the blog posting correct? I used the download links and installed version Second Life 2.3.0 (212977) Oct 25 2010 13:28:17 (Second Life Beta Viewer). However, the splash screen states there is a more current version available 2.3.0 (212997). Clicking that link brings me back to the download link for 212977 version that I already have installed. Anyone have the 212997 version link for this beta viewer. The version I currently have doesn't seem to have display name functionality. When trying to edit My Profile, there is no wrench icon. ** (Edit wrench icon only appears in the enabled regions such as http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Blake%20Sea%20-%20Kendra/144/124/2) It's been a long day so I'm not sure if I'm just missing something silly. No wrench icon: ** (Edit wrench icon only appears in the enabled regions such as http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Blake%20Sea%20-%20Kendra/144/124/2)
  8. I recall how frustrating it was to figure out what type of computer I should buy that would be suitable for SL without being overly excessive for my needs and budget. You might like this guide on how to build a gaming pc. It's not too techy and explains things reasonably well. Even if you aren't going to build it yourself, I found it handy to get a general overview on the different components that will give you the best bang for your buck and how to evaluate the components in a pre-built machine.
  9. Different brand but similar concept http://laptoplogic.com/reviews/detail.php?id=158 I can definitely see the appeal if it works though. It would be way more comfy, wouldn't drain your battery and would be easy to travel with. How much do they go for?
  10. On a serious note though, I've never used something like that but I would think that despite the magic cooling crystals, since it looks kinda like fabric, it would block the vents underneath. I'm sure I've seen laptop pads that use batteries instead of using a usb plug-in so that might be an option.
  11. Does it come with wings for extra protection?
  12. I have one last idea 3 .. it's a total stab in the dark though. I was reading how some people turned off email notifications yet they were still getting them. They had to go to their subscribed threads and actually unsubscribed to them for it to stick. Perhaps it's somewhat related to your problem? Maybe try unsubscribing to all your threads, logging out and relog again in the dashboard and then you can click get email notifications for the ones you are still interested in, on the left hand column of the thread and see if the new email addy sticks. You can get to all your subscribed threads here: https://blogs.secondlife.com/people/3Ring.Binder?view=watches
  13. Not sure if this was already mentioned but don't forget about physically cleaning your computer! http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/tutorials/tutorial118.html Be careful though as I messed up a computer by not being careful when getting rid of dust bunnies.
  14. I think it's a glitchy glitch 3. I don't think you should be able to have 2 separate email addys on file .. one for IMs to email and one for the blogrums. Ticket time!!! NOW GIMME THE POINTS! /me laughs and runs away.
  15. Eloh Eliot has a number of female open source skins available that you can mod and she did release one male skin a while ago: http://sites.google.com/site/another/resources You can read the licensing terms here: http://github.com/eloheliot/another/blob/12d0954235999b20cf06a0beb28ac134c7d78e42/COPYING FAQs here: http://sites.google.com/site/another/support/faq Male psd download links are here as they don't seem to be available on that first link: http://linkedprim.com/freebies/male-avatar-accessories/skins
  16. I'm not sure if the points thing works in General Discussions but I think in SL Answers, as the OP you can assign points to a person's response and the responder gets 2 points for the response "being helpful" or 4 points if it answered your question. And just to be clear I was just joshin' about redeeming them at Wal-Mart ^^
  17. Well frankly I don't care if you give me the points because I have a huge gigantic pile of gold coins in AU and you don't so THERE! Too bad you're stuck with your default background NOOB! lol
  18. Oh that's weird you're getting them to two different email addresses. Time for a tickey wickey maybe. You can still give me points though as M told me that soon we will be able to redeem them for stuff like toaster ovens at WalMart
  19. Hmm I thought you only have the option to show or not show your email addy you have registered with LL. Weird it still shows your old email address. Did you receive a confirmation email from LL? I did it recently it goes something like this: Second Life Email Changed Reply | no-reply@secondlife.com to me show details Jan 9 from no-reply@secondlife.com SL Name: Joshooah Lovenkraft This email acknowledges that your email address blahblah@gmail.com has been changed to newblahblah@gmail.com Maybe log in and out of the this blog page for it to show up?
  20. I think you would change it here: https://secure-web26.secondlife.com/my/account/contact.php?lang=en-US
