  1. MP has cycled back to no sales for me again. It seems like forever but when I check my transaction logs the last sale was April 30. But having absolutely no sales for a day, or 3, for me is off the "norm." BTW, was just checking my orders as mentioned above and I see one order in February and one on March 18 that states "Delivery Partially Failed." When I continue checking the order in this category it does state that the status is "Delivered." It shows up as delivered and I received the funds in my transaction history. What would "Partially Failed" mean? The customer had other items in her basket and they failed but my item didn't? The item "almost failed" but finally made it there. (I hear a George Carlin bit in my head on "Airport Security" where he talks about "near misses" that should accurately be called "near hits.")

If you're just starting it'll take you ages just to appreciate the range and quality of free stuff. REALLY - don't start buying anything for weeks, at least. To follow up on this post - a good way to start gaining an idea of the range of sims, themes, items, etc. in SL is to do a few hunts. Even one will give you a good idea. These are events that usually last one month. Each hunt has a theme and the merchants participating in the hunt will have created an item (anything from clothes to furniture and everything in between) especially for the hunt as a free gift to the hunters. The trick is - you have to find the item which is hidden within each store. (Thus the name "hunt." ) However, there are usually hints to help you and groups you can join for the hunt/s to get help from other hunters. This is a good website to see what hunts are currently in progress and what will be coming up in the next few months: http://slhunts.wordpress.com/ Don't let all the hunts (or all the shops within a hunt) overwhelm you. I'd advise picking one that you like for the theme, then begin and 1) it is a great way to explore SL and 2) you'll receive some pretty amazing free items to begin your SL. Welcome! (I'm a bit nostalgic today since it is my 5th Rez Day. *Smiles*)
  3. I saw a class offered today at a large SL school on the subject of What are Copybotters and How Can We Protect Ourselves Against Them (paraphrased from memory). Some basic points that came out of this class from an instructor very well-versed in the subject: *Since LL went open source, there is no going back. The code is out there. *Banning TPVs would not only NOT solve the copybot issue but some great features offered in TPVs were eventually adopted for the LL viewer. One example cited was multiple attachment points for avatars. *Bottom line was that there really is no way to stop copybotting entirely. As merchants there are some things we can do to deter a copybotter and have him go elsewhere and if we are copybotted, immediately submit a DMCA. The instructor and several students all said after filing a DMCA that the copybotter was gone from SL within hours, even on a weekend. Even after this entire class, someone said the only way to stop copybotters was to ban all TPVs. /facepalms since this was one of the first points of the class. The response was, again, that would not solve copybotting and it would likely cause SL to die a slow death due to their slowness in releasing updates to their viewer that are desired by residents.

Regardless of some people having a seamless transition, many of us who have and have not migrated to DD are having horrible issues. I'm not blaming it on DD necessarily, but I am one who NEVER had any problems with Magic Boxes - no non-deliveries, etc. In my opinion it's an "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" issue. At this point, many merchants' MP stores are now broken.

I would love to see Linden Lab closesource it and ban them all. It would be well worth the temporary bleed off of disgruntled residents leaving to greatly enhance the security of Second Life... security which at present is essentially nonexistent. I know I'll probably get flamed by all the hardcore fans of alt viewers for this comment... but whatever :matte-motes-impatient: (Don't worry, Lindens will never ban them anyway, because they love the concept of getting people to work for free.... and by now they are probably totally dependent on the huge pool of free labor endlessly supplied by the alternative viewer teams.) LLs viewer2 simply didnt work for me .. If they banned Firestorm i'd be gone .. and so would tens of thousands of SL players .. In fact, I think that the tvp could hold LL hostage .. by telling LL that they were going to use a feature LL didnt like or else .. disable the tvp viewer .. If several of the most popular tvp makers did this they could drive LL outuv business I dont intend to flame you .. its just that LLs own viewers are inferior to tvps.. plain & simple I'm glad you realize about LL getting ppl to do their development work for free .. Actually its worse than that .. they get others to do their jobs for them then charge them upload fees & tier for their effort .. LL is as ruthless & rapacious a corporation as any other Jeanne I second what Jeanne said. In the recent interview with Oz Linden and Jessica Lyon of Firestorm/Phoenix, it was noted that the LL v2/3 is number 3 in resident use. There wouldn't just be a "temporary bleed off" of residents - there would be a LOT leaving, me included. I absolutely, positively, cannot stomach the LL viewer. I'm not sure if this was prior to the open sourcing, not sure how it could not be otherwise but maybe someone else would know, in 2007 I was using Nicholaz version of the LL 1.x viewers. Whenever LL made an update, Nicholaz soon followed with a viewer that looked identical to the LL viewer, but worked better. So TPV viewers have been around a long time. No flaming here - everyone is entitled to their opinion.
  6. When this issue was first discovered I had 3 mixed listings (wrong images for my product). I filed a ticket, which resulted in some inane responses from the "Scouts" followed by a request from Brooke Linden to file another ticket and Dakota Linden apologizing for the Scouts. I'm not sure how soon after this those listings disappeared, but they did. (Interestingly, even though the listings are not in my store, they can still be found in the MP via search.) However, I now have 3 more borked listings. This time I apparently sell shoes. I have not filed another ticket.

I was paraphrasing my OP as to one of the reasons I chose mod/trans for most of my items when I began my store - first reason in the quote below followed by appreciating the responses I've received here that are based on customer feedback and merchant experience vs. what I personally enjoyed when I purchased items in 2007 prior to beginning my own business. Original quote from OP: Many of my items I have listed as no-copy/modify/transfer. My thinking on this is two-fold: 1. When I was new to SL I enjoyed having transfer permissions on items I purchased so that if I no longer wanted the item, I could either give it to someone or have a yardsale. (That also was what eventually prompted me to begin my own little business.) 2. My products are priced relatively low so that if someone wanted more than one of an item it wouldn't be expensive to do so. Over time in my own experience as a SL consumer, I find that I prefer having copy permissions vs transfer. I like knowing I can store a fresh copy as a backup. If I mess something up by trying to modify it, I have a fresh copy. Since starting my business I don't resale items anymore, at least not very often.
  8. Flea Yatsenko wrote: I have been doing research as to who seems to be affected by odd sales and bugs and who hasn't and I've found something pretty interesting. My store ID is in the 80,000s, and I made it a while before the XStreetSL migration to SLMP. The point I'm trying to make is that I've had issues with SLMP and I was here before the migration. I looked you up on SLMP to see your store ID and it is lower than mine. You too were a part of the XStreet to SLMP migration, and you're having issues. Take a look at the JIRAs for people who are having problems with marketplace, and every one I've seen has been below 90,000. That is your store and your ID is 15,155. Definitely before the merger of XStreet and SLMP, and you're having issues. My theory is that LL really borked the migration. I would be extremely greatful if someone with a 14xxxx listing could tell me when that listing was created. I have a feeling it would be during the migration from XStreetSL to SLMP. A lot of things could have gone wrong. My store ID is 13,510. I was here for the migration (and prior to that). To the best of my recollection, my 14xxxx listings were listed sometime in late 2008/early 2009. I really don't want to create an alternate account store, but it is an interesting theory. Please keep us posted if you see a difference in yours.
  9. Nataly Moonwall wrote: Well...my question is: Linden Lab can block logins from these known viewers with copybot capability? from what I heard they are able to do it. This would help a lot to prevent the content theft and put the things harder to the thieves Copybotters will always find some method. To repeat some earlier posts, copybotting was going on and being discussed in the forums *prior* to any TPV viewers having that ability, afaik. It was being done via scripted objects or some such. True, blocking logins from known TPV offenders would "help" but it's never going to "prevent" copybotting.
  10. Small store here - sales have been sporadic but a bit slower than the "norm." Still have listings in my store with my items and other merchant images. Will be giving up my residential parcel that I love due to not enough sales to cover rent. If I want to continue to sell on the MP after June 1 I have to purchase a new PC (or make a trip to a relative's home each time I want to list something), although my current PC is fine for everything else I do, including playing two very graphics-intensive MMORPGs. Basically I don't expect much from LL anymore after this fiasco and the general laissez-faire attitude in addressing it.

Blue mars.. but the one i am thinking of was doing really well then they ran into money problems..one day just told their users they were shut down.. it was like just a year or so ago i think..but it was popular..people from sl used it and sl a lot Third Rock, maybe? (I think that was the name of another one.) Edit to add - Thank you for refreshing my memory on Blue Mars. My memory is such that I often remember "part" of a name...lol.

  13. evoluchun1981 wrote: yeah i dont play imvu anymore since i found sl well if its inworldz like everyone is sayin then its cool if its another dont see why u cant mention it since others mentioned that one It could be because initially some people who went to IW were dissing SL and perhaps in SL forums so it was a bit touchy for awhile. That all seems to have died down now, though.
  14. evoluchun1981 wrote: ty i guess i have nothin else to do than try other worlds right now all though so much invested into SL *sighs* Welcome About a year ago when LL made some unpopular changes, many people, including SL merchants flocked to IW. Some now make that their main "world" and occasionally come to SL; others live in both worlds. Many well-known SL merchants also have stores in IW. The physiques engine is still not as mature as SL's, but in the overall "look" and "feel" of the world - it is very similar to SL.

  17. Adonis Adamski wrote: Oh I need something from Marketplace but do you think it's best not to buy anything just now cos it wont get delivered in world? Oh no - I'm sorry for that. I was referring to a current situation on the MP where some merchant listings are wierdly linked to another merchant's listing. As far as delivery I would imagine that works as well as usual - for LL usual. I would just say that if you do have any issues with any MP product - wrong product, etc. - to definitely contact the merchant.

So far I haven't heard of any lawsuits.
  20. SyrenaViolet wrote: funny thing is the marketplace is working better than usual for me Ah-HA! Now we're getting somewhere. So for the past month the MP has been borked but SL running fine. Today SL is borked but the MP is better. Ergo, apparently LL can't run BOTH SL & the MP concurrently and since a lot of people have been pleading for the MP to be fixed LL decided to address that, thus SL went down. *grins*
  21. Killian Sandalwood wrote: Why can't Linden Labs give straight answers when the Grid Goes down for a large group of people ? I'd imagine it is the same reason they don't give any updates to a badly broken MP for the last month except to say, "We're aware of the issue and working on it" while the Merchant Forums and jiras are screaming for help - or even just to know what's going on currently.
  22. Lexbot Sinister wrote: Oh hey, the marketplace is actually still working. Ironic, isn't it? I'm filling my cart with demos! Ummmmmm...it's working...kind of. Just beware if you see...ohhhhhhh...a description for a heart candle with an image of shoes. You might get the candle...you might get the shoes...you might land on a blank page.

  24. Lexbot Sinister wrote: How long has this been going on? Let's see...when did SL begin? :smileyvery-happy: Most recently the MP is totally borked with many merchants reporting mixed listings in their stores - the correct image with another merchant's description or the correct merchant/description with another merchan'ts image. This is creating not only angst and anger among merchants, but a lot of unhappy customers who think they're getting a particular item, get another, then think they're being scammed by the merchant. So what does LL do? Announce the new shiny - Pathfinding.
