  1. I have the exact same problem and it has been getting worse. I think it is a memory leak. My disk drive is contanty caching when SL is running and I have 8 GB of memory. Sl is usually consuming 1.3 GB or more of main memory. CPU: Intel® Core i7 CPU 930 @ 2.80GHz (2793.07 MHz) Memory: 8184 MB OS Version: Microsoft Windows 7 64-bit Service Pack 1 (Build 7601) Graphics Card Vendor: ATI Technologies Inc. 2. Even though AT&T does send all our emails to the gov where a big computer reads each one looking for key phrases and words, they do not go as far as what Verizon, Xfinity and Time Warner are planning to do. AT&T has said they will not censor the interenet nor take away anyones access if requested by the RIAA. UNfortunately not everyone has a choice for hi speed internet but if you do not like getting your account censored or reduced or cut - off, hopefully you will have an alternative that doesn't spy on you.
  3. I helped bayLee create the bucket and will help you out. She is still active in SL but did not transfer the bucket to direct delivery. Just give me a shout in the evenings and I will get you a bucket. They are quite fun to dump water on people.
  4. I was getting the same crash. I tried the viewer in the JIRA and it works for me. They also says a new beta viewer will be coming soon. Jira: https://jira.secondlife.com/browse/VWR-29092
  5. Make sure all Second Life processes are ended before doing an install. Go to the task manager and make sure SLvoice.exe is not running. Then retry.
  6. Space Navigator is a great accessory for SecondLife. Used to be cheaper but if you can afford it you will wonder how you got along without it. For avatar movement and flycamming it can't be beat.
  7. Try enabling hardware skinning before selecting lighting and shadows and ambient occlusion.

  13. Thanks, it would help if I could read German. hehe
  14. My Marketplace is now in German. How do I change it back to English?
  15. I use the Space Navigator with SL all of the time. It is good for avatar movement and fly cam. It is not so useful for moving prims while building. While building, the fly cam is great for being able to view your objects from any position. I would hate to build with out it now. For moving your avatar it is much easier than using keyboard. A trackball, like a mouse only provides 2 degrees of freedom where the Space Navigator can provide a full complement of 6. That is x,y,z translation (movement) and roll, pitch and yaw. Typically roll is not used because it is desirable to keep a level view. When I am stationary I am almost always fly camming around to see everything. In my opinion SL is a much better experience with a SPace Navigator because of the ease of control it gives you.
  16. If you look at what we have in the Second Life viewer, it is a 2D windowing environment slapped on top of a 3D immersive environment. This is not necessary the best thing but we are all very used to the 2D windowing environment and the SL viewer is a transition to operating in a 3D immersive environment. The trouble starts when your windows start covering up the 3D view. The most annoying thing to me is moving windows around so I can see what is going on in the 3D virtual world while I am scripting, building, changing outfits or doing inventory. The sidebar has gone a great way in removing this problem. I think the build menu is slated to go over next. If you are a builder this is a good thing. The build window always gets in the way of building and has to be moved constantly so you can see what you are doing. Those of you people that are having trouble moving from a 2D windows system to a 3D environment should stop and think about how much windows get in the way and what solutions can be made to fix it. The sidebar is one of those solutions. The sidebar keeps things off to the side and goes away easily with one click when I don't want to see it as opposed to closing/minimizing/moving multiple windows with several time consuming clicks and drags.
  17. Photoshop costs about the same. Modo is a professional program and much cheaper than 3D Studio or Maya.
  18. I have been using Modo to create meshes for SL and it is a very nice program priced about the same as Photoshop. I have not got to rigging anything yet but it is a very powerful modeling program and I have been able to import models into SL with no problem. Modo is an award winning 3D program and I find it much easier to use than 3D Studio Max or Maya. Furthermore I do not think prim building will go away. It didn't when sculpties came around. If anything prim building is being given a new life with editable megaprims. Sculpties may be the ones that will go away with the greater precision of meshes making them better for many things but then again meshes will have a higher upload cost. More ways of generating content is a good thing. Content is more than just prims, sculpties and meshes. We are lucky to have rich media and scripting that is not available on other platforms.
  19. I believe that post was meant to be sarcasm to illustrate the irrational hatred of viewer 2.
