  1. No, because you don’t have a choice whether to believe in the EB or not. Believing in God is a completely free choice. You can choose to believe or disbelieve because there is no train of logic or proof compelling belief one way or the other. Either way is an act of faith. ETA You don’t have a choice whether to believe in the FSM either.
  2. Well said, Scylla! I credit Kierkegaard with teaching me this: the one free choice we can make is whether to believe In God or not — because when we make choices about what to believe based on, say, logic or scientific evidence, our belief is compelled: eg we are not free to not believe in gravity. We are not free to not believe 2 + 2 = 4. We have to believe these things, we can’t choose not to. But there is no proof God exists or doesn’t exist. There is evidence on both sides but no proof. We are in fact free to choose, and we remain free to choose — because doubt is always present. There is no faith without doubt.
  3. There is a difference between selling stuff and creating stuff. You can do one without the other, or both.
  4. I can confirm what Lewis says: people who have not been in SL for a while are pouring back in.
  5. Wow, this is the most detailed comprehensive info (from s Korea) I have seen!
  6. I know how grindingly exhausting it is being a caregiver, Rose. All you can do is what you would advise anyone else to do in your position. Get rest even if you have to go in a different room or ask for help if possible.
  7. The existence of Coronation Street is one of those quirky things that make the Brits so freaking adorable!

  9. Apparently Denmark has come up with an idea that other European countries are planning to copy https://www.theatlantic.com/ideas/archive/2020/03/denmark-freezing-its-economy-should-us/608533/ But in order to do anything like that we would have to convince the so called president he thought of it first.
  10. It’s not being avoided. I watch msnbc many hours a day and everyone, news people, experts, politicians, use lockdown at least as much as they use other terms, and no one thinks they mean prison lockdown because they understand the context.
  11. I just quoted your entire initial post. Anyone can see what you wrote. About storage space.
  12. Well it’s already more or less moot — clearly we are not going to do anything at the federal level as the report suggests, plus certain states or cities or counties have already moved into Suppression mode. No one anywhere in the US has suggested Wuhan levels of suppression are an option. The whole report is about the value of buying time to save lives, but to be effective we can’t have states behaving like those who choose the option of doing almost nothing at all. Like, say, Florida, which is gearing up to be a bloodbath.
  13. What’s all this about storage space? Are you attempting to convince people that the report is about convincing people that they need to never leave their homes? That they must store weeks of supplies or prepare to die?
  14. Oh so all along what you have been objecting to us not the procedure of staying in your home except for essentials, but the terminology, which is widely used interchangeably IN THIS CONTEXT? You don’t really have a problem with staying home, just with it not called by your preferred use? Because NO ONE has suggested that any of the terms mean preventing anyone from leaving their homes. You are trying to make people believe that is what is being proposed, while no one has done that.
  15. That’s not what you said Selene. Not at all. We have enough people at the highest levels make stuff up, giving people reasons not to comply, we don’t need more.
  16. Yes it is, in this context, which anyone who pays more than glancing attention to the news is well aware of. No one in any party has ever suggested locking people in their shelters, either physically or legally, so they cannot get food, and it ridiculous to suggest otherwise. Stop it. Stop spreading any false narratives about what we are being asked to do to save millions of lives. Disgraceful.
  17. No clue where you live but sounds like Texas, one of the states who punished Obama by forever refusing to expand Medicaid. As we speak, tho, the Democrats are fighting to expand SNAP (food stamps) as part of the bill they are working on. Other people like Chef Andres are working on a food distribution plan. We — everyone on the planet — are going to have to work together to survive. And vote.
