  1. But the reality is (unless I am somehow mistaken here), that Linden Lab still includes that 21.2% of unpaid sims in their overall sim figure, making it appear their sim count is the same as October 2008... when in reality that count has dropped drastically-- by 21.2%. Now if I'm wrong in that, someone correct me and I'll gladly recant. But I'm using Prok's own figures in this evaluation.Linden owned land isn't all sitting empty doing nothing, it includes roads, waterways and oceans and there's a fair bit of that around and of course Linden Village.

So at that level, it isn't crazy. Though virtual items for roleplay--pass me the pipeweed, Mr. Underhill--maybe should be less tightly restricted than reality. Do Linden Lab have something better than the initial automated pass to clear this sort of ambiguity? I don't know. If getting drunk in World of Warcraft isn't an issue, I don't see why tobacco and alcohol are a problem here.
  3. Automated censoring systems fail every single time, Scunthorpe and Clitheroe are just two examples. However, to be fair, this system is new, but if LL insist on automated systems being the be all and end all, rather than common sense, then we're in for some pain.

Using the C word isn't the best chat-up line) Anyway, stop making me digress. Where was I? Oh yes - keyword filters = headache. So I'm just going to procrastinate until tomorrow. The C word for you equals Cheese young lady.

We would have done so!!! They probably did consider this but didn't believe the 'we would have done so' part.... and when you say we, perhaps you mean you. Sure,, but a voluntary first sweep would certainly have generated goodwill.

  7. Vilandra Miles wrote: What I don't get. The ratings worked before just fine. Simply relying on common sense and merchants being aware of merchants. Sure, have the two was rating now split up into three way ratings does mean work for all of us. But to generally suspect items to be naughty just by keyword and or description is just wrong. What's so hard about trusting in the old system to work just fine with the new rating system? Why is it necessary that LL generally thinks us being too stupid to rate things ourselves? The grid merger, that's why this is happening. Although having the same levels of maturity ratings as inworld would have made sense anyway, it's the grid merger that's behind these changes.
  8. This is the problem with any automated word filters, it's why the Scunthorpe problem came into being.

If you do roleplay-stuff and put the keyword gor or gorean in it because it might fit in that environment as well, it doesn't matter if you sell shoes, chairs, houses, hats, you are labeled naughty! My bad and dangerous ballerinas / ballet flat shoes even made it up to adult rating. Yeah, they're really dangerous and children have to be protected from them. Seriously! We went through this at the time of the adult content changes inworld, people argued the same points, plenty of buildings that are perfectly PG reach out to the Gorean community because it's a sensible target audience, LL took it off the naughty word list for a while but the teens coming in has seen it put back on the naughty word list.
  10. Darrius Gothly wrote: LL will never divulge the naughty word list. If people knew the list, then they would craft their listings to use similar words, much like email spammers use funny characters and odd spellings to circumvent the spam filters. Furthermore, if anything gets learned by this fiasco, it will be that depending ON that list is a fools errand. Let's see how long it takes them to stop using it .. and start engineering more intelligent solutions. This doesn't really wash, when it came to the traffic policy LL outlawed camping on show in search places but added the caveat that any traffic gaming activites were against the rules, LL can do the same with the word list, circumventing the word list is an offence. The very least they could do is tell people which word is getting their listing flagged, it's time for a bit of grown up behaviour on all sides here.
  11. Dartagan Shepherd wrote: Public parts of LL properties are considered General by default, including the forums. Discussions that themselves push the limit of General will most likely get put here, assuming more adult conversation is allowed in the Merchants Roundtable. Something like the keywords list would most likely get deleted because it is in itself, not General by mentioning adult words and thus violates the rating to the forums themselves. I'd expect post content to at some point also come under the Maturity Ratings. Yes, I can understand why the keyword discussion was deleted, although it really does highlight why an account verified forum would be useful, adult merchants and users could do with a place to discuss issues and not being able to raise these issues with LL via the forums is somewhat disappointing.
  12. Whomever moved it back to commerce, thank you.
  13. @Brooke Linden, whereas I agree that this is largely a merchant issue, please understand that people have traditionally needed to apply for access to this particular forum, therefore, unless you have already managed to automatically grant access rights to this forum for all active merchants, plenty of people won't have access to be able to find this thread and follow the discussion.
  14. Did this thread get moved or has it always been in the roundtable? Did LL automatically give all merchants rights here? Gor is often not moderate or adult, you're cutting off people's reach here. I see we're back to the silliness of references to alcohol being moderate, for goodness sake, they tried to put this guideline in place for inworld parcels and Linden Lab were told it was silly and removed it, The Simpsons has references to alcohol, World of Warcraft has references to alcohol, you can even get your avatar drunk and see the screen shake.
  15. Thanks for the email Brooke. Now, if you can get your guys to allow merchants to sort, filter and bulk update by maturity ratings eventually, that may be helpful. The change itself is long overdue really, it makes perfect sense for the marketplace to mirror inworld ratings.
  16. The Web merchandise sales volume doubled since last year. It doesn't reflect anywhere else in SL (or am I missing something here?). All most businessowners know is that inworld sales only have gone down for a long time already. So is it the advertising on the website generating more profits for LL? Well we don't know how inworld sales are because merchants keep that close to their chest but for me, search has been very damaging inworld, both in terms of sales and usability of the viewer to search for things. Search results closing everytime you teleport makes it completely frustrating to search far inworld and land sales search is beyond a joke.
  17. Very well put and thank you! The shift of commerce from in-world to web has been accelerating for the past year and already having the effect you mentioned above. Smart businesses also have moved strongly away from renting satellite stores to producing affiliates which has pushed common rentals down even further. This was a known and planned outcome by Linden Lab who does not benefit directly from in-world sales but does take a percentage of all web sales. This is a risky strategy for Linden Lab, the percentage taken from marketplace sales is a means to generate lindex sales for Linden Lab, the commission itself doesn't get banked and earn Linden Lab money, it's an indirect mechanism to aid them in selling Linden dollars on the Lindex, which is a direct revenue stream and one that by all accounts had pretty much dropped to nothing. So there is a case for Linden Lab to introduce this commission, however If people downsize and pay less tier, then Linden Lab need those Linden dollar sales (and the income they get when residents sell Linden dollars) to make up for lost tier and get them back on track with Supply Linden sales. Now if Linden Lab can pull it off whereby they get tier and increase Linden dollar sales, that's should be good for everyone because it would suggest we have real growth in the economy.
  18. These widgets should be taken away immediately with this nonsense advertising gimmick.
  19. I for one love the new beta. As technology grows, the SL viewer must do its best to keep up. Spite what bugs I will face, it is the best viewer to tackle today's Internet. Social Networking is here to stay, and that is growing faster and faster. Spite the negative press, blogs, videos, etc., SecondLife is here to stay. I am a premium account because I see a great future in this 3-D virtual reality called SecondLife. Thank you for your time. I don't want the you have no privacy mantra of plafroms like Facebook rammed down my throat, the name of this place is Second Life.
  20. LL, just give us options, okay? Bingo, those who want to go with the Facebook Borg should have the option to do so, those of us who want nothing to do with this invasive platform, should have the option not to opt in.
  21. Good to see a post from you and good to see you are engaging with the world, keep it up, get your alt a show in search location and see the challenges users find there when they're trying to be found in search with the continual tweaking that goes on in that area. Hopefully you'll also have some ideas on ways of making it easier for locations that want to provide something a bit more adventurous to survive and perform, some decent ways of getting NPC's running would be great, along with PHP databases to record achievements.
  22. The ability to Like and Tweet profiles is a feature many users have been reacting to. This feature isn't new and is already available already on the old profile pages, i.e http://world.secondlife.com/resident/8f014fb1-a47b-4cec-be9e-064268cc9b1a. We're investigating whether to make this opt-out or not. Sharing a web page on Facebook and Twitter is something we can never block, eans that features are subject to change before the final Viewer 2.5 release. Keep the feedback coming and try to keep it constructive so we can do our best to build an awesome product Second Life residents enjoy! These sort of things should always be opt in, there are people who want to keep their Second Life within Second Life, the fact that so many people don't realise that there have been profiles on the web for so long just proves the point as to why these sort of features should be opt in.
  23. In SL, you seem to have uncovered a situation where one's selection to be private prevents a business owner like yourself from helping your customer. I would suspect that neither the customer, you or LL intended for you not to be able to help the customer. Like I said, I think you have discovered the unintended consequence of a privacy setting. I suspect the code writers of the privacy settings did not foresee that particular situation. Now that it is discovered, it probably something to be fixed. Perhaps a Jira on this might be appropriate to file. As a small merchant, the discovery of such a potential problem is appreciated. ok. This has been pointed out as an issue before, two or three years ago there were concerns about these external profiles and the choice then was to hide yourself from search and people have trouble finding you or have your profile appear, this isn't a new issue at all.
  24. Get rid of those widgets, it's sad enough that you're bending over backwards to promote a platform that doesn't allow Second Life profiles, linking them to users who want nothing to do with those sites is going a bit far, this should be opt in.
