  1. As for the adult-child interaction issues... doesn't this problem also exist on facebook and other social networks... Yes the problem does exist, hence why there are restrictions on said interaction and child protection agencies have campaigned for panic buttons and reporting tools for inappropriate conduct, there are some major concerns about that sort of interaction on Facebook and other social networks.
  2. The only thing that does change is that if you are the type that will accept random friendings from people you haven't even seen or engage in mature or adult behaviors in IM with people whome you are not at least moderately aquainted with, you may wish to re-think those particular actions. There's an accompanying post with this one, it's about search, it's about new search filters being introduced on moderate/mature land for the sake of the teens, it means landowners may find their parcels don't show in search anymore because words that were perfectly acceptable, no longer will be, there's far more to this than random friendships.
  3. Kids get into bars underage too, it doesn't mean bar owners should welcome them with open arms. The search post shows why this is such a bad idea, more word filters, people having to change land descriptions and classifieds for the top secret word filters LL employ, it's all very silly.
  4. 1. You've seriously harmed small business enough with your search tweaking, give it a rest. 2. The SEO folks will soon figure out your little plans and get back to the top, as they always do. 3. Classifieds are being limited to 256 characters, why? Less characters means a less human readable description. 4. Yet more silly language filters that frustrate people more than they help people, it's a silly idea and all for a very small number of teens for whom you should have a far better migration plan.
  5. I am at a loss why so many businesses have to suffer, just so a few hundred kids can come on the grid. The many have to sacrifice for the good of the few. Indeed, but it started a while back when they stopped perfectly general rated business from appearing in general search because they had the audacity to be on mature land, all this for a few hundred kids.
  6. This remains a half baked, ill conceived, irresponsible proposal, mainland is a mixed PG/Mature environment, profiles and picks remain an issue, you appear to be doing nothing whatsoever to address these issues, why not just make the teen grid the mixed teen adult continent and ask private landlords to volunteer their G rated sims to be part of the proposal should they want to engage with teens, keep teens off general mainland whilst you have the absurd and silly situation of PG and mature bordering each other.
  7. Some answers to other posts on here: The limit of 64 characters only appears to apply to entering classifieds - this is because they failed to correct a line in the xml that said '64' to '255' - may have been that they didn't spot it until immediately before release. It has been fixed in the soon to be released Viewer 2.4 Beta. That's hardly a fix considering the character limit for classifieds has always been higher. There's no need whatsoever for this sort of silliness.
  8. This all goes back to the fact that Linden Lab won't allow people to use the name Linden, allow those who are concerned or have their name trademarked, or as a business name, the same protection as the Linden name and the problem is pretty much sorted, as times go by and less people find it an issue, the problem gets solved even further and when the gold standard of Linden Lab allowing people to use the name Linden without fear arrives, then we'll know people really have pretty much nothing to be concerned about.
  9. Personally, I'm looking forward to display names. I enjoy role-playing and would prefer to have the name above my head match the character I'm playing at the time. Others have expressed the desire to follow tradition and change their name to match their spouse. Other, like myself as well, are just tired of the name their using and want to change it up a little. These are good reasons for the change, unfortunately it's not great for roleplaying due to the once a week change limit, but maybe they will get onto that further down the line.
  10. The long term aim is for display names to be searchable, you can't do that with a group tag. LL should just let those who want their name protected, to have that choice and then we're into a win win situation.
  11. Also about Display Names, you need to get your head out of your arse if you think griefers are interested in impersonating you. Don't be so naive, good grief, this will be terrible for some people, for the vast majority of us it won't be an issue, but for some it will, hence why Linden isn't available. Get your own head out of your arse.
  12. So why impose on us an extra effort to identify whoever we interact with? Your arguments are all techno-legal masturbation and devoid of all ergonomic considerations. Does it take any extra effort to look at the unique user name of a user when they're wearing a group tag above it? Why would display names be any different? The plan is for display names to be searchable, that certainly doesn't happen with group tags so it is more than just a tad different.
  13. Greatly disappointed. I've been looking forward to Display Names for a long time, but it's not working. I installed the new beta and there's no wrench option next to my name when I go edit my profile. Display Names and usernames are enabled in the Preferences pane. I really was looking forward to trying out this new feature. Were you in a region where display names are enabled? This feature is only available in certain regions, it works in Bay City.
  14. Oh come on, enough, notifications are off why am I getting spammed, seriously, don't tell me I need to file an effing Jira about this, it has only happened since I set a display name.
  15. P.S. Have you ever actually read any books on the theory and practices of investing??? He's talking about the stock markets we've had here, I think a couple are still going, one infamously was going, going, gone, and didn't leave a nice taste, read up on the stock markets that have been here inworld and you'll see why people urge caution.
  16. Jack, how have you configured email notifications with regards to display names? I have a display name, I'm getting notifications of new posts here, even though I'm not subscribed to receive any, not sure if this is a general glitch or because I've set a display name.
  17. The difference between a display name and using a group role for a name tag is that you can search and find people by their display name, you can't do that with a group tag, that's why LL have gone down this route.
  18. 2 things: one has the ability to turn off username. Anybody with that setting would see me only as ColdFrixion Writer. Second thing - still waiting to find out if you can set your display name to Jack Linden.... or ANY linden, for that matter. If so, then I will be satisfied that whatever risk there is, is shared by the Lindens. As long as users are aware that display names can be changed, they (hopefully) won't be ignorant enough to rely on them for serious identification purposes. Therefore, if you're going to turn off user names, have the common sense to check a users unique user name before passing judgement as to who they really are. Therein lies the concern some have, people won't check every nook and cranny, honestly, LL should just let those who are already here and are concerned, the abilitty to reserve their name, like Linden is reserved, there are people with the real name Linden, they won't be able to use it. As Ceera points out, it's her registered business name, others have trademarked their names, LL should be listening here, it's a win win situation for them to actually listen.
  19. Ceera, they won't roll it back, this is a "tread carefully" warning from FJ, which hopefully will make people do exactly that and not risk their land groups when this first rolls out, or make everyone rush to fill their group slots.
  20. The groups issue is a tad concerning, there's no way a rollback to 25 will be easy, there will be nightmares for people trying to jiggle their tier to ensure they don't tier up, people needing to set all items to the new group, autoreturn mishaps, it's not the sort of issue that really suits itself to any sort of reverse gear. Ideally you should be working to change some of the issues with groups by ensuring social groups and land groups are different beasts, social groups wouldn't need to check access permissions, whereas land groups would, groups need a whole new approach to make them viable long term.
  21. No I should apologise, I know people tag on to the last reply because I've seen people stating this before.
  22. This blog, as I have seen in many others, is loaded with what people want for free. It is almost sickening to read. All kinds of desires and not a stitch of contribution. Edited due to confusion over whom comments were being directed at.
  23. I am one who actually believes that there should be 'tiers of service' people who pay up front are entitled to a beeter level of service to those who don't - sorry but that's just reasonable. And for those who spend many hundreds/thousands of USD in SL but won't take prem membership - well that is your decision - and in taking that decision there is no point in then ranting that you are entitled to the same service as those who pay membership fees direct to the company, Seriously folks take a deep breath and have a think - if you're spending thousands in SL - isn't it worth paying direct for the service - and no I'm not especially moved by the 'trickle down' argument. What I do hope is that this means that LL will actually 'IMPROVE'it's customer services to prem members not just cut back on it's services to basic members. Remember if you are a basic member and the person you are renting from is getting a good service - the service you get should improve also. That's my tuppence worth and I shall bow out now :-) There already are levels of support, basic, premium, concierge, concierge plus or whatever it's called and there is, or was, one for those who pay whopping amounts of money, this system already exists. What we're seeing is support being cut, it has already been cut for conceirge customers because live chat isn't available 24/7 anymore. Now basic accounts are being cut, but they already had a very narrow field of support options anyway.
  24. I own a full estate and a one homestead. Well i should say i pay the owners for them and for six weeks now i have note been able to tp anyone to them. The estate owners say they have had to re-file tickets but nothing have happened. I have a premium account and i pay just for these two sims over $500 US a mo. for them. Not to mention all the other lindens i spend in here. On the full estate sim I've built a halloween sim for halloween but at the rate this going maybe next year i'll be able to open it. So you can see where i think this blog is what a joke? I had an issue on one of my sims where people couldn't TP into it, live chat got it sorted for me. I had initially filed a ticket because live chat was closed at the time but a few hours later when they opened, they passed the details onto someone who could fix it. I'd ask your landlord if they've tried live chat.
  25. why would they look at your case? you are basic. Seriously. On what basis do you expect companies to bust a gut on your behalf when you make it clear to them you will not pay them a single cent? What are you basing your assumption on that basics don't spend money? There are two account levels, Basic and Premium. Then there are support levels, basic, premium, Concierge, Concierge extra, or something like that, I forget what it's called. Basic account holders can buy Linden dollars, they can also buy islands but then they become concierge customers, but that's going off on a tangent. So a basic account holder can be actively involved, but even if someone doesn't spend a penny, surely they deserve a bit of support if their account can't login.
