  1. I'll see what I can do then. When I adjusted the height of my avatar (I posted about in it the other thread), I tried the smaller sofas and chairs that I mentioned here - those that I'd like to see you try - and found them slightly large but I don't think you'd look tiny on them. But you can see for yourself - if you ever get back there
  2. That JIRA was created more than 2½ years ago, so it's not something that's likely to be fixed, even though the first response, on the same day, was from linden who said he'd like it to be fixed, and requested discussion for that purpose.

Melita Magic wrote: That's when my av looks around and pretends to be afk...I hate busy mode...never really works anyway...people who say they are in busy mode answer the IM in seconds, so they're not. And if I put busy mode on and someone sends me a gift it's gone. I disagree. I'm rarely in Busy mode but, when I am - because I am actually busy and prefer not to be disturbed - it would depend on who is IMing, and/or what it's about, as to whether or not I reply immediately.
  4. I just did a check on something that's been mentioned a few times - the Edit Appearance measurements compared to prim measurements - and I found that what people have said is true. I made a 1.8m high prim, which is the very near equivalent of 6'. Then I adjusted my avatar's height to match the prim's height but found that the avatar's height, as stated in the Editing Shape box (official V3 viewer), is 1.67m. Converting that to feet and inches, it's *5' 5.75", which is nowhere near 6'. *With the male avatar, I couldn't get its height as low as the prim's 1.8m. Its height is as low as it will go but it's still slightly above the prim so, in reality, it's probably slightly under 5'5". So, even if we want to make things in SL to be the same size as things in RL, which size do we use? If we make the avatar height (in meters), as stated in the shape/appearance editor, the same as the actual RL meter height, it will be a long way off. But if we use 3rd party programmes to make SL furniture the same sizes as RL, the avatar height would need to be significantly taller than the editor's stated height. The sensible thing would be to use a prim's measurement and estimate the avatar's height. It all makes the idea of creating for RL sized avatars somewhat inconsistent. One creator might use the avatar's height according to the shape editor to guage furniture sizes, because that's what most people in SL would use, and another creator might use the avatar height according to a prim to guage the furniture, because reasonably exact RL furniture sizes could be produced. Because LL has screwed up those measurements, there wouldn't be any consistency if everyone tried to make sizes in SL match RL sizes. The best way, imo, is what has actually happened - SL sizes of avatars and other things evolved according to the conditions in the SL world.
  5. Everything? You haven't tried my smaller sofas and armchairs yet. And I've been sitting here watching to see if you show up again
  6. Because of what you and Porrky said, I just signed up, downloaded, and logged into IMVU, and it's..... weird lol. No walking etc., and no world - just isolated rooms. It says you can make your own stuff but I didn't try to find out how because it looks like the only place to sell anything is on a sort of marketplace thing - no inworld shops. I suppose that people get used to it, but I find it too weird to be interesting. At least I've had a look so I'll know what it is when people mention it
  7. Czari Zenovka wrote: Jennifer Boyle wrote: One thing the others didn't mention is that you get access to chat support, which can be valuable. For example, you can get a region restarted when it needs it. Isn't the region restart only for people who own an estate sim? I know this has been answered but I just want to confirm that, as a landowner in the sim, you can get sim restarts. I've never owned a full sim but I've had it done many times over the years. The only time when the person wouldn't do it was when it was for minor reason (ghosted prim) and the sim had plenty of avatars in it at the time. All but one or two were my bots, so I logged them all out and the reset went ahead. If the reason is compelling, I'd expect to get a rollback too, but I don't know if I could get one. I don't know if the support staff are even capable of doing a rollback, or if it requires LL staff to do it. ETA: I've just read further in the thread, and I see that a rollback from support isn't possible.
  8. When is your Delta Flyer coming out? And why do the alien species in the Delta Quadrant also call that part of the galaxy the Delta Quadrant. It doesn't make any sense. But, to answer your question, I'm not one for vehicles - cars, bykes, boats, etc., so, whilst I genuinely applaud your generosity, and thank you for it, it's not for me.
  9. I'll do that experiment and let you know. This is serious scientific work, y'know, but I won't mind if you do the experiment yourself and publish your paper before me.

  11. 1863 – The London Underground, the world's oldest underground railway, opens between London Paddington station and Farringdon station. The world's first underground station is at Baker Street (in London), but I don't know if it existed at that time.

By "groovy", do you mean we have to have old, wrinkled faces? - i.e. with grooves in our faces? After all, all the hippies probably have grooved faces by now lol.

Celestiall Nightfire wrote: Phil Deakins wrote: I believe that most land-owning content creators don't make money in SL, ... whereas it is possible to make decent money in SL from land-owning content creation. Huh? You wrote two opposite statements. Phil, SL mirrors RL. In RL rates of business failure for first-year businesses is at least 50%, often higher. So, sure, plenty of people in SL (just like RL) who try to do content creation and also own land, do not make a profit. That's normal. Why people in SL think that the normal market economics would not effect them is a mystery. But, a person does not need to own land in SL to have a business. A SL resident can sell on the SL marketplace, and not have tier to pay. I know merchants who do that, they even list in their profiles that they only sell on the SL marketable. Incidentally, I know a woman who is a SL content creator, and she own four sims solely for the purpose of displaying her merchandise. She makes enough money to pay sim tier X 4, plus pay a scripter, mesh-modeler, and still makes money for herself. Will everyone be able to do this? Maybe not, but the opportunity is there. The thing is, that just like RL, there's no guarantee that someone will make money, as not all people have the same artist talent and/or skills. But, they could. Without opportunity, people cannot thrive. The small OS community stifles that opportunity by lashing out at those who wish to make money. (I'll be happy to provide an example of this undesirable OS trait, if you wish to know more) No I didn't write two opposite things. I believe that most land-owning content creators don't make money is SL - but some do. I.e. it is possible in SL The marketplace doesn't come into this little sub-discussion, because it's only land-owning content creators that are being discussed. Yes, the opportunity is still there to make money by being a land-owning content creator. I am one myself and I still make money from being one. I've never used the marketplace and I never will, so what I make is solely from being one.
  14. They are a law unto themselves. I once had a problem when an AR team person issued a warning to me, which made me stop doing something I was doing. S/he was wrong, and I appealed it. The appeal was closed without comment, possibly by the same person. I only got anywhere when I wrote the full story to their boss. Then is was sorted out very quickly. Unfortunately, that's the AR team and not a support person, but some of the LL staff are a law unto themselves, and have no concern whatsoever for paying customers. However, if you are not a paying customer, then they don't have an obligation to sort things out for you.

This isn't fair. :smileysad: :smileyfrustrated: :smileywink: But it's cosy - and costs less to heat
  16. Ty, Coby. If I'd been logged in at the time you visited, and at the computer, I'd have chatted with you, and I genuinely regret that I missed you. On most days, I'm logged in all the hours I'm awake, and in an enclosed room at the store, but much of that time I'm afk. But if I see you therre, I'll TP right to you. There are some RL people who look like you do at the side of those kitchen units lol, but they are made for more average SL avatar heights, as you discovered. However, everything in the store, including those, is mod, so the buyer can adjust them to suit themselves. I'd be interested to see how you (your height) looks on the smaller sofas that I do. I just had a thought. It may be good to have a seperate RL-sized furniture section.
  17. Celestiall Nightfire wrote: Masami Kuramoto wrote: Most of SL's land-owning content creators already work for free, since all their earnings are sucked up by Linden Lab in the form of tier. From an economic perspective it makes no sense for them to be in SL. They are working for the Lab, not for themselves. Well, maybe you'd better rush out and explain that to all the land barons and people actually making money in SL. I'm sure that will be news to them. (some people I know totally support themselves with their SL content creation and/or inworld rentals) I'm with you on most of your post, Celestiall, but I have to comment on the part I quoted. Masami said "land-owning content creators" which doesn't include land barons. I believe that most land-owning content creators don't make money in SL, because most of them are tiny loss-making businesses that are just an enjoyable hobby so, imo, Masami was right on that point. However, OS grids don't get off the starting line when it comes to making money because they have so few users,, as you pointed out, whereas it is possible to make decent money in SL from land-owning content creation.
  18. Yes it makes it easier to create 1:1 in an external programme, but it makes it harder to actually use in SL

  20. I've never heard of it before but I see that it's imminent. Unfortunately, there doesn't seem to be any indication of where it is.
  21. That's a good idea. But the mods are paid for what they do so there's no need to do it, or to do anything that makes it easier for them.
  22. Alright - incomplete You are right about RL work often or usually being charged at SL rates. It's really up to the worker. If the worker considers it to be part of his/her SL hobby, then I can understand him/her only charging SL-type amounts. But it's never wrong or out of step to charge RL rates for RL work. I've never been asked to do any RL work that's to be used in SL. The closest I've ever come to it is when people sometimes ask me to do a variation of an item that I already sell - usually just a texture or colour change - and, although it uses my RL time, it's still just a part of my SL hobby, so I never charged them any extra for it even though every one said they'd pay more.
  23. Leia36 wrote: I'll give you an example, I answered a classifieds ad about three months ago, the poster wanted a custom logo for his shop. I am a graphic artist (amongst other things) in RL and I answered his ad. Usually a logo such as he wanted would take around 8 hours from concept to completion in various formats. I calculated my normal rates and the price I would charge in RL would be close on 65000L and that's bargain basement rates, he wanted to pay me 1200L ..lol Point is a logo is a logo here or in RL. The above is only an example I am sure others have had there own experience. I am curious about how others feel, the OP is not a challenge to anyone's rice bowl. Your opening statement in your first post is wrong, as can be seen in your second post (that I've quoted). I.e. land is not the only RL money thing in SL. Land cost RL amounts because it's an RL thing - computers. But there's an other RL thing (time) that is also sold to be used in SL, and your second post states it. When someone wants another person to use RL time to create something for them, then it's sensible for the creator to charge accordingly - RL time. There are many people who will use their RL time to create things and charge SL-type amounts for it, but they are the ones who get it wrong, imo - not those who charge according to their actual work if the work is external to SL. At the same time, I don't blame anyone for only wanting to pay an SL amount of money for someone to do some RL work for them, but they certainly can't expect to only pay that.
  24. Marcus Hancroft wrote: I got in trouble for reporting them a couple weeks ago. The moderator IM'ed me and told me to stop reporting the spam posts cause it just makes more work for them and they already know about the spam and they are working on getting rid of it all. From now on...I'll leave the spam reporting to the rest of you and YOU can get into trouble. I've had my butt chewing for the year. And to think...I thought the moderators would appreciate being notified of it all. Come to find out, they don't. That was a stupid thing for the moderator to do. S/he probably got up on the wrong side of the bed and was in a mood. The mod was wrong, not you. It's my impression that the mods don't moferate at all (or even look) unless a user reports something. Then they are paid to moderate whatever the report is about, and they are paid to deal with reports of inappropriate posts, no matter how many reports are made. It's their paid job to do it and they should not find fault with genuine reports. If I were you, I'd continue to report the spam. I always report one of the multi-posts when I see them, and I assume that the mods are intelligent enough to realise that the rest of the person's posts are also spam. The way it all disappears does seem to indicate that.
