  1. The 50 pink SSP regions are probably very much like the 50 regions they used to develop the Log Homes. That development area turned out to have a set of "template tiles", each 1-9 regions in size, that could be assembled in various ways to create a huge subcontinent of virtually unlimited size. So it's not how many homes are in the SSP development area that determines how many homes they'll release, it's how many copies of each tile the Lindens want to put together. I've posted this elsewhere, but here's how they put the tiles together for LogLand. Slides courtesy of Abnor Mole. They started this approach with the Victorians, where they just made single-region clones that could be fit together in various ways. They may not take exactly the same approach with the stilt homes that they did with LogLand, but whatever they do, the eventual continent will probably be an assemblage of some sort of tiles. If so, it can be as big as they want it to be.
  2. THIS The violence is born of rage, and a simmering sense of grievance. Trump has a gut-level understanding that clear articulation of GRIEVANCE (no matter what about) is the soul of his support among the whites who propelled him to his current position. Many whites are fiercely defending a system of white supremacy that used to serve them and their families well, but no longer really does. They will always resist acknowledging that they have any sort of privilege because their lives, looked at objectively, SUCK. They really do have reasons to be aggrieved! Why does health care suck so badly that an adult son with a back problem, a nonworking wife, and 2 kids gets addicted to opioids, steals his parents' car, and cracks it up? Thousands of alcoholics want to know who let environmentalists take away logging as a career and offer only what turned out to be completely inappropriate training to become 'knowledge workers'? Formerly middle-class whites in Detroit are still wondering how they became slum-dwellers. There's a potential for our grievances to actually bind blacks and whites together - we have so many in common. But powermongers have succeeded in deflecting responsibility for America's problems away from the wealth that has disappeared into their own pockets. Instead of blaming societal impoverishment for their grievances, whites are being encouraged to load blame onto immigrants, blacks, latinx ... mysterious 'others' who are just as badly off, if not more so. There is no truth to any of these 'causes' for whites' very real problems. And blacks can blame whites. Across the board, no matter how wretched a white person's life may be, they are to blame. It's true in a way, because even in the worst dollar store there is racism ... but not, at this end of history, helpful. Runaway capitalism has created a nonfunctioning society in the US. I'm REALLY glad that BLM has reached the visibility it has, because now many Americans believe that the US will never be truly fixed until it is fixed for all. This is true. But we have to stop bickering about who is more wounded. "Whole sight; or all the rest is desolation" john fowles
  3. Well ... you know ... there's a certain number of Mole benches, webbed camp chairs, lamps, refreshments, arbors etc. that bear a strange resemblance to What Next merch ... Let's see, why would that be? šŸ˜‰
  4. I doubt that means anything. The Log Home demo region also did not have indoor controllers. ETA: note, also, that these homes do not have the curtains shown in Patch's teaser pics. Or at least I didn't see any, and I went into several of the demos. I don't know if that means they won't be offered, or if they're optional and not present on the demo homes.
  5. My first impression of the landscaping on the demo region was that it was really sparse and uninteresting, but a second visit corrected that. Using sand mounds/dunes, they've created opportunities for little dells where plants cluster, as in RL. And tide pools. And the plants! I would happily own all the plants, particularly that twisty, knotty tree and the bearded palm. Also the flowers and bright-foliaged plants, all reasonably low-LI. The beach signs are cute, but I'm happy for them to be a mole-only thang. I want a set of stairs that match those already on the houses, and ALL the plants! Lol. For me, I love the homes that are half beach/half water. If I could find one with good privacy, I'd park a Tortuga there and be delightipated. (Btw, I measured a couple of Tortugas on their parcels, and both had 5M on the side of their decks for a boat to sit. The boats I own will fit comfortably in that, tho aficionados of HUGE yachts will probably choose another style home.)
  6. And THATS what you get for relying on cached URLs! Thank you both
  7. Hey, it looks to me like it is no longer possible for non-premium avatars to see what homes are on the land page. For me at least, on both Chrome and Firefox, when I try to look, it redirects to an upgrade-to-Premium page. If anyone's found a way around that, I'd be interested. I haven't been willing to fool around trying to find a guilty cookie causing this, lol. If this is the case, then sorry folks, I'll no longer be alerting people on the "When did you last see..." thread to new releases. Personally, I think LL shoots itself in the foot just a little bit with this one. This is not going to increase the number of people who become premium; it's not a case that arises in the normal course of navigating the site. OTOH, I have upgraded alts in the past based on what I saw on the land page. Not being able to see it decreases my interest in Belli homes just a bit.
  8. According to Patch, when they are released, there will be 'thousands' of them.
  9. When the bots visit your parcels, do they spend time in the region visiting other parcels as well, or just yours? Your tracer should be able to track both parcel & region visitors. Also, if you pick a particularly troublesome avie, do you know how long it spends inworld each day? I don't know if it's possible to 'hide' one's online status from LSL, but if you can see this avie's online status, it should be easy to track their time online. For me, if the answers to these questions are: Yes, the bots seem to visit more parcels than yours in the regions where you own land, and Yes, they are always online - well, to my mind, that makes it less threatening, less likely to have anything to do with you in particular.
  10. Here's my wish for today: In lieu of releasing the stilt homes anytime soon, I wish LL would deploy a single region of stilt homes (complete with home controllers) where known content creators could register to use a parcel for a week at a time. That way, when they ARE released (possibly around Thanksgiving?), a full market of add-ons would already be available for we mere mortals to buy like crazy. Content creators should be discouraged from posting pics of their borrowed homes and add-ons until the release actually happens, tho.
  11. Careful, carrreeeefulllll, personally I haven't heard anything other than "fall" mentioned as a target date for AWS port completion. And we know what can happen to engineering targets. Incidentally, I believe @Oz Linden is the "Meet the Lindens" guest for today. @Inara Pey's short summary of a Lab Gab in April is a great backgrounder for today's talk. This project has been ongoing for a long time, some services are already in the cloud. And supposedly SL will initially be confined to a single AWS center, which should help. But I speculate that there are higher-risk elements of the port (e.g. latency at region crossings, or content changes within a crowded region [for example, like yesterday when Enchant moved and most of the 76 people waiting in Exhilarate couldn't see it]) that won't be completely wrung out until the bulk of the region servers migrate. I don't think that's happened yet, tho I would hope they've been testing it with armies of bots wearing hair from 2010, riding 50LI motorcycles with bot pals and animesh pets, for a while.
  12. Selecting placement! That is amazing! So, on the land page, there will be two types of stilt homes that can come up, "Stilt-water" (no entry stairs) and "Stilt-land", where "Stilt -land" might or might not be partially over water?
  13. I think the only one I don't see pictured in this thread yet is the Tortuga. To me this one feels like a yacht club! All of them have quite nice decks. Here's the Lauderdale from the back, complete with an Alotta The Santiago feels the most like a regular family home, to me. Its deck is more modest. I think this is the model Patch used in his hint pics.
  14. I saw four models of homes, all 1024x1024, each of which could be sited either all on land, partially on land, or all on water. All on stilts. Patch seemed very clear that there will be space to put a boat on both the all over water AND the partial water parcels. And yes, stilt home regions will, at least sometimes, be sited near existing or new houseboat regions. The only thing said about release dates was Patch dropping something about a possible winter release of 2 themes. So these are NOT coming soon to a region near you There are no underwater homes in this theme. But it would be easy to BUILD a mer home under one!
  15. New Patch hint pic this morning: Never get a break! Gotta unpack more boxes! No time to rest! LOL a WALL of boxes so we can't see outside! Not much to add to what we knew before. I see a more open floorplan than usual in trads (yay!), confirmation that we'll be able to color the walls as we like, and a better view of the floor-length curtains that we saw in the first photo. Kinda feeling more and more like a mailbox update, but we'll maybe find out later today. Adding wall-coloring to existing trads would be great, and a more open floorplan model with curtains, also most welcome. I wonder if the two rolls of rugs mean anything? Will we be able to select different floor textures for different rooms? That would be great! Hardwood floor kitchen with carpet in dining room without having to use prims, terrific, but I'm not counting on it. And a cute bannister-sliding anim, wonder where that came from?
  16. Next up, probably Parsnip Dreams. But after that ... could it be Thatch Lea? Couple of VERY nice spots there, I think!
  17. North Wall released. Still some nice spots available.
  18. Actually, at this point I'm more eager to see the moles work on LogLand than to see a new theme! My partner & I have avies tied up waiting to see what happens when SSPE regions are built out, and two of them would be the hunters in the unlikely event that a new theme were to actually be released soonā„¢. Before that, we'd like to retire them for a while. Haven't seen a mole working in Belli in many weeks, or noticed progress on unfinished builds there. I hope they return before moving on to another big project, but I don't have a lot of confidence. As Daniel said, they've been rather steadily working on the template tiles for the new theme, apparently as they've freed up from the SL17B build. LL has left projects on mainland unfinished before. I suppose if that happens in LogLand, my partner & I will just have to hold our noses and make a couple of guesses. It's not like big open spaces are a BAD thing, if they stay that way! Re: SL17B water regions - each of them is providing a little bit of finished coastline for an exhibitor region. Don't know if that's the only reason why they're there, but maybe? The places where there is no water region border are either LL regions (I haven't been in to see if LL provided coastline built-into their regions), or the spot where the demo region is destined to go.
  19. The campers were revealed at SL16B, but not released until mid-September. So, it's not outside the realm of possibility that LL could REVEAL the new homes now, and RELEASE them when regions become available. I have to say that I've been a little puzzled as to why work has continued seemingly steadily on templates for a new theme (the pink SSP regions). I mean, don't they have all the time in the world to finish those? Or ... maybe they don't. You know, they can do whatever their little hearts desire. If they want to do a limited release of, say, 100 regions of a new theme with more to follow later, mazeltov. Or they could just update the trad mailboxes. Or they could reveal a new theme, and not release any of them until November. Their world, their implementation.
  20. Hey, despair not allowed! If it were demos of existing homes, the region would have been in place before SLB opened, right? The only reason to have removed it is because some sort of reveal is planned. And I doubt it's just been cancelled, particularly not with Patch having already posted a teaser named "On the Move!" of a house we've never seen before. SLB is over 3 weeks long, ends July 12th. It's not ABOUT homes, like the Home & Garden Expo was. It's about celebrating SL's history and having a fun vacation from our crazy RLs. So let's go try to get a great pic with a pterodactyl and see if Patch will drop a few words Tuesday about what's next for Belli. *hugs and lemonade to all*
  21. Patch has opened SL17B officially. Nice speech, I swear he got a little choked up during the minute of silence for those whom we've lost this year. *Hugs* to Patch! Those speeches really need an audience in voice, tho, the pauses after big lines are deflating. Maybe an invited studio audience? Enchant is still off to the side. There was no mention of Linden Homes at all. There were a few interesting stats on SL's growth this year, tho. Strawberry is still broadcasting live, visiting a few places around SL17B.
  22. /me laughs. Given what's happened at other reveals, I think it's very nice of LL to provide a place to camp out while waiting!
  23. Well, SL17B's theme this year is ā€œvacations and road tripsā€, which does explain the tiny campers, etc.. I'm not sure that would extend to a new Linden Home theme - we'll just have to see. Maybe tomorrow, maybe Tuesday. The builds have a 'theme park' feel to them, from the dinosaur park to the monorail to the LogLand landscaping, as well as a lot of the resident exhibits.
