  1. Remove the destroyed bridge and relog. Most probably you will get a new one. Make your own attachment/hud to run your scripts (just a simple prim is needed).
  2. llKey2Name(llDetectedKey(0)) is the same as llDetectedName(0) total_number is 1 (usually) so thats the mistake you want to use 0 Scripts like that detect only 1 toucher per touch event but thats sufficient unless a group of people starts to click on your object at the same time. If you replace: glAvas += llDetectedName(0); ++giCounter; by if (llListFindList(glAvas,(list)llDetectedName(0))==-1) { glAvas += llDetectedName(0); ++giCounter; } then every name is only once in the list, no matter how often this avatar clicks.

Thus a computer at the other end can identify different computers using the same IP address. The MAC is used and visible in a LAN (ethernet frames) and NOT the internet. As usual, people have no knowledge and demand either useless or insane things. Identifying everyone, alts, bans global lists and so on. I have still a few shop owners muted where i detected redzone (cant use their vendors by accident then) And it's good that it's against the TOS. Playing a little wannabe god on their sims with the excuse of defending against griefers seems to be not too uncommon. Well as long as this is limited to their sims I dont see a problem. Lindens are limited to block access since they can't stop an agressive attacker. I can make different alts with different IP's on different networks. Identifying? I wouldnt be in SL if someone wanted personal or payment data from me. LOL - no way. I gave that to LL 1 year later, with a prepaid credit card. So if they want any more residents they have to keep an easy and open access. MMO's needs GM's or some other equivalent to deal with griefers, forums need mods. You need to deal with that on your own if you don't want a closed group. Trolls are everywhere.
  4. Your script should work. It shouts an error if you try to give a no transfer object and that is the only reason for failure that I see atm. Check caveats here: http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/LlGiveInventory
  5. I hear of griefers here and there, but met only few. If I have a few seconds I can protect me and watch the show. In my home sim I can use my godlike powers - thats entertaining. And if all goes wrong I have to teleport. What a terrible fate There are surely single cases where people are upset for good reasons but that shouldn't result in useless suggestions like IP banning. There are 2 possible results of an IP ban: 1: nothing happens and 2: someone gets hit that has nothing to do with the griefer The chance to hit the griefer is next to zero so no need to even discuss that.
  6. Solid looking things don't necessarily are solid so you can walk or fall through prims. For a floor thats very uncommon though. Trapdoors in malls are not very common. Other possibilities are: sim crossing on a prim (bridge for example) you can fall through. Lag? I never fell through a floor due to lag in the last years and I am in the Sky most of the time so thats unprobable. A security orb can eject you from a parcel and if that happens in the sky you can end up somewhere else in the sky. Thats all possibilities that come to my mind, so all you can do is try again with open senses. Regarding security orbs: I run one - sometimes when I'm in "do not disturb mode" - with very short notice. Stick nose in - get kicked out immidiately! But I wouldn't do that on ground or easily accessible places - because I think thats not nice - not because I think I couldn't do that.
  7. Best guess is no script land. You need to attach your AO on a land that allows to run scripts. The no script zones go from ground to approx 75m so you can fly up to "start" your AO - once its running it will continue to run even in no script zones. There can only be one! AO I mean So multiple AO's (beware of shoes and other stuff with built in AO) will block each other. Some TPV's like Firestorm have a viewer built in AO. Not affected by no script zones but can be overridden by other worn AO's of course.
  8. Two things about this thread: 1 - This script is possible 2 - The reason I don't do custom scriping is: I will have to use my RL time for that and then become payed with some lousy Linden $ :smileyhappy: I rather stay with having fun and only script for myself - if in the mood. Of course a litte script isn't worth 10-20K but the work behind it is. :matte-motes-sunglasses-1:
  9. Phil Deakins wrote: Curser keys (or the WASD keys) are the standard method of moving in SL. No! lol From day 1 in SL (years ago) I used a combination of Mouse+Keyboard to move, that is the standard in other games too. I'm not talking of mouselook, thats another option I use in special cases only. I really wondered seeing so many with that clumsy movement you get when playing keyboard only. Seems that this feature is obviously not known that well. I always know when i teleport to a place with an invisible prim at the landing point (spam and spy tool) because i fail to connect the mouse steering to the avatar then. It is no problem to move in a furnished 4x4 room with a mouse/keyboard combo - IF sculpties are not bigger than they look (need phantom setting then) AND you have a decent framerate AND the sim is running well. But it's absolutely no fun so why bother with that? A moving camera is never the same than the way you see in RL so the environments must not be the same than RL. Game designers know that and you can see that in all games. In SL everyone is a designer. Well - your imagination so do it - but SL does not allow to make a RL environment that is fun so I will always make SL environments and no RL environments in SL.
  10. Phil Deakins wrote: Just out of interest, how close to the back of your head is your camera? It's the distance behind that makes RL-size rooms too small. The Debug Variables are: CameraOffsetRearView: default is 3m behind and 0.75m above thats the default follower camera CameraOffsetScale: default 1 higher values zoom out, lower values zoom in CameraPositionSmoothing: default 1 higher values make the camera follow your movements slower or smoother lower values make it follow faster CameraAngle: default 1.047 the zoom lens of the camera, view angle You can play around with it. But a camera that gives an overview needs some distance. It's all in the viewer and everyone can set it up btw. so i don't see why Lindens have something to do with it besides setting the default years ago. If people don't like it, they can change it. Everyone can set exactly what they want and people telling that they have the only real setting - well I'm not compatible to missionarys - I have my own fav
  11. Coby Foden wrote: It can be adjusted, a new default can be put in all viewers (if there is a will). In addition to the third person view it is possible to add also good first person view (if Linden Lab is willing to do so) which works well in small places. There is absolutely no reason to do this and theres is no will to do this. By the way - suggestions like this try to force that sight of things on everyone. SL is made in the way it is and that way has nothing to do with RL. It's ok for me - you just can't rebuild RL things 100% accurate in a way that fits into the SL world but thats no reason to change SL for everyone. In the future things can and will change but the existing SL world is a big weight that will prevent big or rapid changes. Another point I noticed is that there is more space if everything is smaller. Well, thats not quite true. It's not the space that limits it's the number of prims that limits. If i have more space to fill i need more prims. So do i need more space at the moment? Not me - give me more prims and then I'll think about the space.
  12. All that talking about size and shape ... The avatars in SL are in no way - not even a little - akin to the population in RL. People have a picture in mind what is most beautiful. Models for example are tall and thin. The female 90-60-90 proportion is hardcoded into the genes and therefore popular. Men are tall with broad shoulders and so on. So that's what the people choose for their avatars - combined with a poor handling of the shape editor and a missing eye for proportions. Not to forget the tendency to exaggerate. And it will always stay that way. That will make the ones that keep RL sizes look like small people under giants. The attempt to copy RL into SL will fail here. Most avatars can't even pass a standard sized door of 2m height. So you can build your piece of 100% copy of RL on your parcel (would be interesting to have a look at it btw) but that has nothing to do with the existing SL.
  13. Did you say shopping becomes boring? Tsk Yeah - it's up to you to find out what you want to do - makes one feel lost at the beginning. Use the search in your viewer and play around. Check places and events maybe. Clubs, music, dancing, role playing, art, sports, fights, dirty things hehe, building in a virtual environment and not to forget SL is a great platform to chat and meet. If something comes to your mind - search for it. Use your fantasy
  14. A bit shorter than 2m (female) and thats average in SL from my point of view. The default camera setting encourages larger builds. I've been in small builds - comparable to RL and I don't like it. I don't want to spend time at a place like that. Walking around is best done in mouselook there. Setting the camera close to the avatar is a must when navigaing there in 3rd person view. When I build the minimim ceiling height is 4m - i prefer 5m though and plenty of space horizontally. Moving around, turning, rotating the camera and not running into prims all the time - thats nice, luxury and comfortable. SL is not RL - there are differences So if the builds get taller the avatars follow? Or people just want to be taller and exaggerate? I don't know.
  15. One Detail. The sizes in SL are not correct. Avatars are 30-50cm taller than in RL and buildings are at least that high so your camera is not bumping at or in the ceiling. So you will most probably appear as a dwarf if you use your correct height or you add about 20% to all numbers.
  16. As usual this kind of thread is useless. IP ban is nonsense, would affect some of you maybe, but many (including me) are not affected. Banning a copybotter? This person can't make another avatar and buy and copy your stuff? What makes you think so? I don't see anything you can do except watch for duplicates and report to Lindens. That's dissatisfying and will not really help.
