  1. Thanks, Cerise. I know how to make alpha masks. I was just curious about why the behavior changed.
  2. Some time ago, when SL introduced the alpha channel, with the advent of v. 2, I think, I made a skin of transparent textures. When I wore it, I was invisible except for my name and any worn prim attachments. Yesterday, I donned it for the first time in a long time. Instead of being invisible, I looked like I was wearing a very low-quality skin. It wasn't a default skin because it did not have underwear on it. Can anyone tell me what is going on?
  3. In Firestorm, click on Help, then on About, then on Copy to Clipboard. Then paste the contents of the clipboard into a post here. That will give people the information that they need to help you.
  4. I tried all of the other suggested methods without success. Then I bought the Object Scanner. It worked.
  5. I tried it repeatedly. It just doesn't work. I did make one interesting observation. There are three other avatars who are supposed to have objects on my land. I can highlight one's objects but not the other two.
  6. According to the parcel details, there are 107 prims owned by an avatar I never heard of on my land. I know that I could just return them. However, I am curious to see what they are, and I think there;s a small chance that they are something desirable. Therefore, I would like to see what they are. I cannot find them. I have tried highlighting them by selecting the avatar's name on the parcel details objects tab, tried Firestorm area search, and flown up to 5,000 m looking for them. How can I find them?
  7. I want to expand my wardrobe of high-quality, realistic, fairly conservative blouses. What I am looking for is something that would be appropriate for wear in a RL office. Any suggestions?
  8. I can't find work gloves. Anyone have a suggestion?
  9. Chweck this one out. I have it, and it looks every bit as good as the picture.
  10. I'll be happy to chat and show you around. IM me or send a friend request.
  11. If you find one that suits you other than having animations you don't want, you might try contacting the creator about selling you one without them.
  12. I run SL from a flash drive on different computers. Since I can't change the location of the files in C:\Username\Roaming\SecondLife, it is necessary to copy them from the flash drive to C: each time I run SL and copy them back to the flash drive afterward. I noticed that it was taking longer to copy them. I looked to see why, and found that there was a large amount of data in this folder. There are three subfolders. One is named http and another is named https, and they contain files with names like this: cache_fff0897710f1c57a7339346ea0b212a1e1c81ddd.cache. The third is named prepared and contains files with names like cache_D40144.cache.
  13. Thanks for the very thorough, informative, and instructive post. I spoke hastily and without thought. However, if LL would not be so opaque and would tell us what they are doing, what they hope to do, how it's going, and what unexpected problems they encounter, etc., I would be a lot more understanding and patient. After all, if you don't tell people anything about what's going on, you can't blame them for assuming the worst. They used to actually make some effort to communicate with customers.
  14. Wouldn't it be possible, albeit complex, to design an avatar that would interact with legacy clothing as the clothing expected and interact with newer features as desired?
  15. This is really exasperating. This is something that many people would really like to have. Why is it that LL wastes so much effort on things that people don't care about or even hate and won't implement something like this that many of us would love?
  16. I once solved a similar problem on another version of Windows by installing the then-beta version of the video driver.
  17. One reason that things are made no modify is that the seller doesn't want to have to deal with buyers who mess it up. Another is that some sellers have a mistaken belief that no mod objects are harder to illicitly copy. A reason for no transfer objects to be no copy is to keep people from using multople copies at the same time. For example, it is reasonable for me to have to buy six chairs if I want to use six chairs.
  18. Paint.net works fine. I have made a number of alpha mask textures using it. Get it free at http://www.getpaint.net/.
  19. Let me add my experience. I, too, am not a designer and never will be. However, I really love mesh clothing. I concluded that I really needed to learn to make alpha masks. One reason was that some mesh clothing that is just gorgeous won't work well for me with the supplied alpha masks. The other is that I have a lot of shoes that rely on invisiprims, which no longer work, so I need alpha masks for them. Once I tried it, it was surprisingly easy. When making them, I wear a tattoo layer with clothing templates on it and I start from the clothing template when making the alpha texture. I use paint.net, a free download from here. I also use the temporary upload feature of Firestorm to try out the textures. As already pointed out, it may be easier to modify a texture that came with something than to start from scratch.
  20. Like others here, I originally got a premium membership in 2008 because I wanted to buy and sell land, which, at that time, could be done profitably. The reason I've kept it is that chat support is very much worth having. A few times I have had severe problems solved by chat support, and I occasionlly request, and get, a sim restart when it's needed. Also, premium membership costs almost nothing if you pay by the year and take the value of the stipend into account.
  21. Sounds like a supercallafragalisticexpeialidocious idea!
