  1. The whole lower body texture is 1024 x 1024. The tattoo itself is small, around 64 x 64.. Here's an example. It looks OK because of the simplicity of the image. Other, more-complex ones do not look very good.
  2. Occasionally, I make a tattoo for my own use. They are usually small and, because the whole upper or lower texture can be only 1024 x 2024, the tattoo itself has to be so reduced in size that the resolution becomes quite poor. Is there any workaround for this problem? Thanks to all who offer help.
  3. I happened to look at my earrings while I was lying down. They were horizontal.
  4. It has always been almost empty. People were writing about that in 2007 when I opened my account.
  5. If your shoes are no-mod, you have to place it into a separate prim. What I do is create a prim and put the script in it. Then, I attach the prim to a HUD attachment point and move it off screen. Some make the prim transparent. There's no reason to, if you wear it as a HUD, and making it a bright color makes it easier to work with. If your shoes are modifiable, you can just put it into the shoes themselves and save an attachment point.
  6. I think it depends mostly on two things. One is how you want to use the avatars; the other is how you feel about usernames. I have a male alt and two female alts. The main reasons for having the male alt is for photography and for testing couples poses, so he wouldn't be useful if he didn't have a separate account. I also use the female alts for photography, for creating a small crowd for some purpose, and as passengers in vehicles so I can get out on land I don't own without the vehicle poofing. I use them all for checking access, permissions, etc. to make sure they work as intended, all of which require that they be on separate accounts from mine. An additional use is being co-owners of groups to guard against being unable to administer the group should my primary account become inaccessible. I have no desire to change back and forth between genders; some do. For them, one account with two or more avatars makes sense. I would feel odd as a male avatar with my name. I am a fortunate oldie with a username that is plausible as an avatar name. I wouldn't want to change it, especially since, if I did, I could never change back. Display names don't really do what I need because they are visible in many ways.
  7. LL's policies regarding names continue to baffle me. I never understood why they got rid of last names, a big mistake IMHO. I didn't understand why, when they brought them back, they didn't re use some of the old last names, particularly ones in use by few or no current accounts. I really didn't understand why, when the brought last names back, they didn't offer the option to change one's last name to the same one as another account, with their consent, since a lot of people like to RP as family members ane would like to have the same last names. IMHO, they are the group who would be most likely to be willing to pay that much for a name change. Finally, it seems to me that the price is likely higher than to optimal price for generating the most, and that a lower price would attract enough more people to result in higher total income. But, what do I know?
  8. In the Inventory view, you can paste links into inventory folders the same as you can other folders. Reading your post caused me to think of an improved method: I'm going to create an outfit folder that's empty, if possible. If not, I'll create one with a single placeholder item in it. Then, when I want an outfit folder that does not contain the four items that I can't take off, I'll just copy it, rename it, and paste whatever links I want into it, and delete the placeholder. Added after I tried it: My plan won't work because in inventory view, I can't copy outfit folders. What I had to do is use "Save AS" in appearance view and then delete the unwanted items. Otherwise, it seems to work.
  9. I use both methods. Depending on what I'm doing, it can be better to use the Outfits panel or to use the Inventory view. One important reason for me to use subfolders in Outfits is that I have many seasonal outfits organized into folders named for the seasons and one named ALLYR. I move the off-season ones out of the Outfits folder, so that they do not appear in the Outfits panel at all.
  10. Here we go again. How many threads have we had on this topic? I have a very nice house that I have had for many years. It is open to everyone except a few dozen people who have demonstrated that they are not nice. I really don't understand your issue. If I am not there, which is most of the time, why wouldn't I want others to enjoy it? If I am there, unless I am busy, I enjoy meeting most random visitors. What people do when I'm not there doesn't affect me, unless they intentionally grief, which rarely happens, or they leave random junk, like boxes things came in, lying about. In SL, there are no spots left on the sheets when they use my bed, nor any other trace of their activities, unless they rez things. They can't even track mud into the house. If they do leave junk, it takes little effort to return it. I think your actual issue is that you don't like to share, and don't want others to enjoy something of yours even though it costs you nothing. That is a mindset that I just cannot comprehend, but, from previous threads on this topic, know exists. I generally assume that the owner intends for me to be able to enter land that I have access to. SL gives you tools to control access to your property. You should use them. They are free. You can restrict access to specific named accounts. You can make a land group and restrict access to members. What else do you need, if you are hell-bent on not sharing? Perhaps the reason that people don't understand that you don't welcome them is that many of us do welcome visitors, and they assume that you do. I always assumed that people who didn't restrict access welcomed visitors, until I leaned that many don't by reading forum posts. Because I read previous threads like this in the forums and realized that other householders don't enjoy sharing, and I wanted to make it clear that I do, I put a sign in front of my house. Here is a picture of it: When people click on it, they get this notecard. My house:
  11. No company has an "obligation" in the absence of a contract or legal requirement to do anything. However, no matter how secure a company feels, there is always the possibility that a competitor will emerge that is eager and able to serve their customers better. Plenty of smug, apathetic companies have bitten the dust because they forgot this. Therefore, well-managed companies strive to provide the best possible service to their customers. As others have pointed out, there are always employees who will be eager to volunteer to work holidays if proper incentives are offered. As a company that provides a 24/7 service to people all over the world, for many of whom Thanksgiving isn't a holiday, LL would be well-advised to provide support at all times.
  12. Yes, that's what I was thinking of. I tried it just to see how it worked, and I thought it worked OK.
  13. $150 per month works out to less than $0.25 per hour, so someone should be able to turn a nice profit by charging, e.g., $0.50 per hour, which isn't prohibitively expensive at all.
  14. Some years ago there was a service (operated by Sony, I think) that allowed games to be run on servers and the video streamed to users. Second Life was on it; the viewer ran on a server. The advantage was that, since the viewer didn't need to run on the local machine, which just needed to display video, low-powered devices could be used to access Second Life. The service was discontinued by its owner for unrelated reasons. I wonder why LL does not do something similar itself to make SL accessible to larger audience. People could use smartphones and tablets as well as low-powered computers. Surely, having SL accessible to many more people would be a big plus for LL.
  15. That idea has merit. A problem would be that alpha maskjs work with anything, so if there were alpha masks in the box with autohiders, everyone could probably use them. Maybe have labeled sections for boxes that contain only body-specific content and one section for all boxes with any alpha masks? It's not that burdensome to delete what we don't want.
  16. I know that alpha masks work with system avatars and all BOM mesh bodies. When I said "all avatars," I was thinking of autohiders; I presume, but don't know, that other brands have autohiders like Maitreya does. The contact sheet is a great idea.
  17. Perhaps I should expand the scope of this project to include all avatars? What would be the best way to inform people about what body the stuff in a box was made for? Hovertext? I think hovertext would be overlapped and hard to read. Texture on the box? This seems like a better idea. Thoughts?
  18. What I'm talking about is lingerie that is produced both as a BOM/system layer and as fitmesh, the creator having tried as much as possible to make them the same. The reason I'm interested is that, if one is going to wear underwear under clothing, it is sometimes necessary to use BOM panties and usually necessary to use a BOM bra. In those cases, it would be ideal to have the underwear as bothe, so that while wearing clothing, the BOM could be worn, and when the clothing was removed, the BOM would be there. Then the fitmesh version could be added and the BOM version removed.
  19. Would that explain multiple sims running on both AWS and LL servers running poorly?
  20. A question for everyone who is interested in this project: should we include the alpha mask textures to make it easy for people who find that an alpha mask almost works for them?
  21. For several weeks SL had been performing better for me than it ever had---good frame rates, little lag, and fast loading of textures. Then day before yesterday, Sunday, the lag became terrible, textures were very slow to load, and frame rates were low. Then, Tuesday night, the problem, whatever it was, resolved. I changed nothing on my end. The problem was present in multiple sims running on both LL and AWS servers. I found none with normal performance. It was so bad that my avatar, when walking, would take two steps, freeze for an instant, take two more step, freeze again, etc. Others noticed it, too. Does anyone know what happened? There was nothing about it on the grid status page.
  22. It is fixed. You can either take a copy of the box or buy a copy for L$0. Thanks for letting me know about the problem.
  23. Less interest has been expressed than I hoped, but I decided to go ahead and and give it a try. The Free Alpha Mask and Autohider Exchange is now open at http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Danim/45/8/61.
