  1. for the gtx 560Ti, any settings are good... except for the draw distance... increasing that will slow down the framerate. the sim you are in has some affect on your framerate, in the magnum beta testing sim the framerate is always high it seems. (in the LL homes sims, the FPS seems to vary depending on draw distance, cpu and GPU) if you are finding that this is not the case, the problem is the CPU. because a Intel Core2Quad Q6600 (a 2007 cpu, 2.4 GHz) a bit slow... but the upside is that a gtx560Ti is NOT the bottleneck in the system and the card is great for gaming. i can get 30 fps without shadows or Anisotropic Filtering and Antialiasing on a hd2500 (intel pentium g2120 3.1GHz) the hd2500 is a gpu that approx 6 times SLOWER than a gtx560ti. so you should be able to get 24 fps at the same settings. having said that i know that using Anisotropic Filtering or Antialiasing on a HD2500 (INTEL g2120) will reduced your framerate from 30 (without any "hardware" settings AF or AA) to 12.8... (ultra quality and speed detail 160 in tackleberry LL homes) and if you use shadows "for-get-a-bout-it" lol cause you are looking at 5-6 FPS... but when using a Nvidia card 560Ti it is all sunshine and rainbows! really! in short any Nvidia card gt 640 and higher is great. (Gt630v2 not sure about...) but the gt630v1 will do 60fps no shadows, ultra detail, 128 draw distance best case, with a g2120. TL;DR... on a GTX560ti, anything is good... except the draw distance will reduce the Framerate. your cpu speed plays a roll too. you should be able to get 24fps... in a LL home sim. on ultra settings, 128 draw distance. BTW to see your frame rate in SL press ctrl-shift-1... -------------------------------------------------------- Second Life 3.6.2 (278491) Jul 12 2013 00:55:07 (Second Life Beta Viewer) CPU: Intel® Pentium® CPU G2120 @ 3.10GHz (3093.01 MHz) Memory: 7107 MB ddr3 99924 1t 1600 OS Version: Microsoft Windows 7 64-bit Service Pack 1 (Build 7601) Graphics Card Vendor: Intel Graphics Card: Intel® HD Graphics
  2. thank-you... it works... now if I can solve the log-in problem, all will be fine... LOL BTW, i can log in on other computers, so thank-you for your info...
  3. In order to determine if it is yor computer(graphics card) or second life please reply with the graphics card model number... If you don't know that and you bought the computer, lookup the model of the graphics card. (or what is the make and model) Having win64 on a purchased computer means it is recent thus, should be able to run SL ( i have had SL running on a "budget" laptop running win7 so it should run...)
  4. Go to your inventory and find the item you rezzed (it will be in bold) then either "detach" or "remove ". It. That should make your home re-appear. If you have not emptied the trash, it should still be there. (you can't delete your linden home) If abandon your linden home you can change the model type by findimg another.
  5. I find that replacing the outfit with another one works. (should be completely different). If it doesn't, clear cache. Log out, log in...
  6. Well Being less than a year old... But the Best thing that they introduced was the linden homes. I kind-of-didn't want to join SL, due to the cost and effort of building a home (small yes, but an annoyance) Had these thoughts (that were misguided) of the difficultly of getting land, paying for it, dealing with neighbors tall/sky objects and locating/designing the house. Also the option of not having to pay a monthly fee.. (if you just want to live off of the clothes on your back in SL)
  7. Females (in rl) vs females ( in sl)... And females as males in sl and males as females in sl and so on... ( read the classic forum "is it all right to play as a female in second life". Old thou... Perhaps 2 years old...
  8. Because you can not charge for the viewer, there is next to no chance that a graphical viewer will be developed for the ipad or zoom... But any tablet that could be a laptop also (without the keyboard) that can run win7 or a complete linux install could ( by virtue of the fact that any program can run on It.) LOL... What's easier ? Removing the keyboard on a mac book air or rewriting the viewer as an app for the ipad?...
  9. So you can log in, but fail or time out getting to any region or second life. Try hooking up an ethernet cable, and then disable the wifi, and try again... To make sure it's not the wireless section of the router. Then try viewer 1, if that does not work, reinstall viewer 2, and try again.
  10. Have you tried becoming a premium member?, or using a credit card for payment info. Back about a year ago I used my canadian drivers license and it worked. (it's moot point now becuase i have payment info on file.)
  11. SL does run on mac's ...at least for me. I got the development viewer running on a white maobook intel (2009 ) 310 nvidia. Ran well. ( I can't remember the exact version but i think it ws around 2.6) When the osx version "lion" arrives in july... Upgrade to it. That perhaps will solve your problems. And give you alot of mac specfic features!
  12. I have had that problem, Switching to a completly different outfit or a different outfit has solved that problem for me (of the times that i have remember it has happening to me) . (the clear cache and relog works also) .
  13. your included link to a laptop uses an ATI/AMD Radeon HD 4250, so at notebookcheck.net , using WOW as benchmark got 31fps on low, and 17fps on med. and commented "With most tested laptops not playable"... so long story short, IMAO is not good enough. (look for an apple laptip, or one that has directx 11) and you should be o.k. imho. furthermore... anything with a brand-new gpu... unforunately, they get expensive (over thousand), (alienware... dell's gamer laptop line..) But having said that, check the "Popular Mobile Graphic Cards", at "notebookcheck . net" they have a extensive list composed of 6 classes of laptop processors... for example the white mac book pro had a 9400M gpu, thus it is a class 3 GPU. for second life, and graphics options set to "ultra" should need a class 1 gpu, but on high a class 2 gpu, and on mid a glass 3 gpu, and soon on, but the refresh rate at which is acceptable differs amongst people...
  14. Happens when you have a brand new GPU, that SL doesn't recognise, so to be safe it defaults to the minimum settings... I prefer ULTRA, and the shadow and lighting options all on in the develop menu, but that is a killer for all gpus... including the 6970 which i have... eye-candy YES!
  15. (more information is need to determine the problem) but... check for viruses... could be from a host of issues, but try unistalling it, downloading the most recent viewer directly from SL, and do a clean install http://blog.nalates.net/2011/02/22/second-life-clean-install/ or try installing the viewer 1.25 (i think that is the latest viewer 1) or another viewer such as the kristens s21... or any other approved viewer.
  16. Short answer, reduce the graphics settings to "Mid" use (crtl+p) then go to "graphics" find "quality and speed" then set the slider to "mid") and that may solve the problem. and clear the cache in second lfe. Also setting the "draw distance" to as low as you are confortable with will definitely help the frame rate). Due to SL defaulting to HIGH because it assumes that a 9600M is a class 2 GPU, (when it should be a class 1 under windows) it is a class 2 gpu becuase 9600m is in the Apple MAC book pro, therefore faster than in would be in an ASUS laptop under windows. the 9600m is a class 3 gpu in a 6 class tier. (notebookcheck . net / NVIDIA-GeForce-9600M-GS.9450.0 . html) IMAO Running second life on a windows laptop, and expecting great graphics and EYE candy is not wise because it will only create a 'slide show'... so reduce the distance. Under windows, i use a 6970 and a AMD 955II (3.2Ghz) so while in linden home, VBO, all eyecandy on 1280x1024 full screen (ULTRA preference and all "lighting and shadows" options and framebuffer objects on in the develop menu ) under midday sun, while dancing with: distance 256 ;9.8 fps, 96 ;13.3 fps, 64 ;18.3 fps. With the lighting and shadows options off: midday 256 ; 25.8 fps, 96 ;39.3 fps, 64 ;53.3 fps with MID settings....midday 256 ; 28.3fps, 96 ;50.1fps, 64:57.3fps if anything is gray for a long time, clear the clear group cache. (and restart SL) RLC is not better... but it is designed to run on a laptop that is 2004...(or a IMHO 400 dollar one) and it suffers for it. The only thing it has going for it is smaller and easier to run on budget/cheap hardware. because of that it will allways be stuck on slow hardware. I was on RCL first (then after 6 months i decided to try SL but i thought that it was confusing and hard to control and i would have to buy land, create my own house, (funny, mainly because of viewer 1.23 ...when i changed to viewer 2, my mind changed), the premium plan (72 a year) is what changed me to "dump" RLC and join SL. While the startup in RLC requires nothing, it is 20 dollars (at least) a month to become VIP. yes, the avatars walk better than the default avatars in SL, but in SL it is just an HUD away to walk better. For every advantage that RLC has, SL can and will be better, if you look and work at it... RLC only lags in the chat box, because (while IMO the graphics "were good for PS2 days", (RLC hasn't keep pace and thus it will run on anything) I hate it for that; and other reasons, ...the avatars are small, and lack resolution. To sum up, RCL is community college (even thou it has a adult theme) and Second life is and IVY league college...
  17. too late please disregard... previous comment....
  18. Here!, here!... exactly what I am thinking!...
  19. Just get the Premium account (i did)... 72 dollars a year and linden bonuses... yes if you are a land owner etc you probably have all the lindens you need.. but even business owners need a place you live ...LOL. oh ok , consider the linden home a private place (for whatever) only you (and your friends) know about... So, basically... if you own land get the premium sub!... Consider it the price for Customer Service... BTW, the Customer Service is amazing... Being new here, I had problems with inventory... they solved the problems... Great Service!.
  20. really, there's no real reason for teenager's to be be here... to learn 3d modelling?... or is it because you might make some money?... if it is 3d modelling... learn MAYA, or photoshop or any of the any programs... will serve you better in the long run... if it is a 'job' think again... IMHO the successfull vendors are the ones that have a professional RL job, with skills the transfer to here. thus, a teenager it will just be a hobby... and thus with alot of adult baggage... the question is how many teenagers are on SL?... more than Playstation home?..no?... why bother?... now if Lindens Labs idea is to create a "Microsoft's XBOX live world" (by creating a G or PG) only area... they better get a dollar from every xbox gold sub... (i believe is around 3million a month)... to justify the people that would leave from regular SL... now if LL has gotten this far I suppose they have a plan. I think it is better for teenagers (13-19) to be on playstation home or any other 'clean' virtual world (not an ad i've been on it) but because there is no sex actions to speak of; you will get a better introduction to a social world that does not have any sex actions to speak of so therefore it is all about socializing, and gives a teenager the experience that should be able to tide them over until there 20... (ok 18...) Basically, Second life is not a place for teenagers to learn 3d- modeling.
  21. The problems with teens is they can't be trusted... because in SL, it is easy to be someone else, and if RL laws are applied to SL doings, then Teeners(16-17) can not be in here... and why do they need to be in here?... or subjected to an adult world?... they can wait like the rest of us did.. since this is SL... the laws should be applied evenly to all peoples... thats, you break the TOS you are gone... i.e what happens in SL, stays in SL... but if someone wants to bring RL in to here... beware of the wrath of RL laws... (meaning teeners that lie to get in here are removed!.. until proof that there are in here properly vis-a-vis the TOS)... which means adults need to block, or ban or AR teeners in adult regions... (of course filling false AR's should be a black mark on there profile...) well I hope there is some way to punish teenagers that are in an area they MUST not be in... because it seems they can do anything, and not be punished, while the adult gets all the blame... (mainly due to that fact they should know better). But if a teener is gaming the system...and they allow themselves to be outted they most be removed!... DUE to the fact that adults don't want the liablilty of the underage person surprising us...16-17's shouldn't be here... if they choose the enter under false means, then they should know and understand "if you mess with the BULL, you get the HORNS" meaning if you are caught YOU ARE BANNED, until questions can be asked... and those that have a PREMIUM account DONT get banned until the facts have been researched. (because it is assumed that a premium account is an adult account). ...since age play is verbotten, (banned, not acceptable) then what we need is a perma-ban or a ban for anyone who states that they are under 18 when on an adult or moderate(mature) sim, (of course inforcing it is another matter... HOW?) I think this would work because SL records all chats, IM's (don't they?) so there's proof if someone admits if they are under age... (an example is the one who stated they were 13... in an adult sim) perhaps a few comparisons between teeners and the wild, wild RL...: for example lets say the "adult and moderate(mature) regions" have a floor with broken glass on it... and only those age verified have the shoes ..(to prevent your feet(body) from getting cut)... yes one could walk around the glass and not get cut... or those that are over 18 know not to point a gun at themselves and pull the trigger... and those under don't, so they need a special area NO access to guns... (or guns with no trigger lol)) (yes the teen-grid was a safe region for them... but) so you say that I'm mature and under 18 and I NEVER go near guns, or I would never pull the trigger... (problem is we don't know that, and when you shoot yourself, it is us that have to pay "the health care" or funeral costs... so it is JUST easier to only allow 16-17 in an area with no guns.... and also those know they can handle guns.... (yes the teen grid supposed to fix this ... it didn't)... so
  22. The edu-sim are separate IMAO( from the main grid because they don't make linden labs as much money as regular sim so the edu sim would be an a "special" server... thus difficult if not impossible to see the "SAUCY" stuff... thus betsie, unless she has a faked regular account wont be snooping. WAIT! lol... I know what will solve it... LETS solve it by requiring an absolute identity verification (lawyers letter stating who you are!) that would solve this camming into a mature region! problem.... Lets get right on that!.... and a profile item that states your real age!... YA RIGHT, The solution is worst than the problem!. look, teenagers want stuff for free.... they can get nudity and p0rn from many other places if they look....(and many of them have done it in RL.)... camming into other region is more trouble than it is worth... if your worried about deceptive practices by minors then thats a problem only solved by being aware... because if someone is going to lie, cheat and steal to make you perform statutory "pixel" sex/rape.... then you shouldn't be a part of second life... cause a service that allows a made up identity will have it's pit-falls... but then the only regions that have free sex bed use... are adult regions..and thus a teenager can't access those regions. Therefore the linden ideas are the right way to go.... x
