I'd be a little sad at first, but then I'd remember that LL's decision has just saved me $295 USD in monthly maintenance fees, and I'd go shopping for new shoes. Maybe give InWorldz another whirl after that, or perhaps just get back to my gardening. I'll survive!
  2. Hilly Haalan has started with a small selection, but I'm sure will expanding her Belleza-compatible line soon.

Like this one? .... Here are the specs of this Apple desktop: Memory: 8GB of memory 500GB Hard Drive Graphics: Intel® HD Graphics 5000 (^ although the system requirements for SL is an ATI Radeon 9200 and above OR NVIDIA GeForce 2, GeForce 4) <-- don't know if IntelHD Graphics 5000 is enough??? *Below is the link: http://www.bestbuy.com/site/apple-21-5-imac-intel-core-i5-8gb-memory-500gb-hard-drive/2680419.p?id=1219075853336&skuId=2680419 I'm sorry to be so late in replying to this thread, and wish I had noticed it earlier. Disclaimer: I'm a MacBook Pro owner, and pretty much sick & tired of all the constant work-arounds I must learn and/or create, in order to enjoy Second Life. The desktop you are considering, is an iMac .... that means it's basically an enlarged laptop on a cute stand. The graphics chip (regardless of whether it's Intel, ATI or NVidia) is integrated into the motherboard. It is not replaceable or upgradable by the user. Additionally, RAM on this particular model is not upgradable, so you're stuck with 8 GB with no option for more. There are mac users on SL who are happy with their machines here. I suspect they don't go to busy clubs or frequent graphics intensive environments in SL. MacBook Pros (and iMacs) run hot. It's a fact of life. I don't have the sort or size of cooling fans that an Asus ROG laptop has, for instance. When I am in SL, my gpu is very frequently hovering over the 90 C temperature (194+ F). Apple says this is normal and expected behavior. I'm sure most Windows users would say it's insane. Regardless, it's HOT! .... I can't get an Apple engineer to test in SL, but my belief is that when my gpu reaches that temperature, it kind of goes into self-preservation mode, and slows itself down. The end effect, is that I am lagged in Second Life. I don't hate macs, but I will not buy one with the intention of using it for SL. Good luck!

It may be that the TPVs use a different rendering engine. I know for something out there the viewer is on a closed license so TPVs cannot use the same code - but I believe that is voice and not graphics. However if it is graphics, it might explain some of this. My late 2011 MacBook Pro 17 uses AMD 6770M. I can only wish they had used NVIDIA, but alas, Stevie didn't want to. I honestly don't know what the problem was on the 9th, but in my own case, I'm confident it had nothing to with the AMD driver update, since Apple will be the one to decide when and if I can update my drivers, and they'll make that decision in their own sweet time. ;p Anyway, all seems well now. (at least for the moment)
  5. I'm not so quick to blame the new drivers, since I'm on a mac and we don't get those instant driver updates like the PC world does. Yesterday, I had the exact symptoms you describe and went through the same troubleshooting procedure as you. In my case, I noticed two things ... 1) The problem occured on Firestorm, but not on Singularity and 2) The problem seemed more persistent on on the Carolina sim, and easier to fix on the Turtle Bay sim. Both sims are on main channel, and both had already had the rolling restart. I'm left wondering what an odd coincidence it was that everything was fine before the rolling restart, and fell to hell after it. Ah well, this morning it seems fine for me on both sims and with both viewers.

Both allow sending custom message but neither allows a way that I can see to remove the location when sending the request and the location is sent with the request. I did glance through debug settings also for the Official Viewer and didn't see anything that would allow removing the location when sending a TP request. I can't speak for other Viewers Hmmmmm, that's interesting. I was quite certain I was on solid ground with my previous statement. I just repeated your experiment, with me on Singularity and my friend on Firestorm, and achieved the same results as you. So, either something has changed, or I'm just plain wrong. (Gosh, that's never happened before! :matte-motes-silly:) To the OP: Ignore the lady behind the curtain, obviously she doesn't know what she's talking about! Edit: Corrected spelling error before Sister Sarah found her ruler!
  7. DawnLoria wrote: So you can edit a TP request so it shows no address? Correct, at least on Singularity, Replex and Firestorm viewers. I gave up on the standard SL viewer years ago, and have no idea what goes on in that version these days.
  8. DawnLoria wrote: ... These have to be hacking scams, right? ... Wrong. The tp request is editable. If you received one from me, it may very well say "Come to the party" or something similar. Rather than a hacking scam, it's probably just a bot sendng out random requests in order to fill a club. Not a hack, but annoying. Just ignore, and/or mute the bot (avatar or group) sending the request.
  9. nikita Jefferson wrote: ... 'maybe we should start a list so everyone can start banning them ... I'm not convinced there's any real threat yet, that would mandate me spending my time banning every Brenden or Selena that visits my sim. But one obvious problem I see with banning via land tools, is that so far I've seen over 100 names and I've only been looking for 2 days. I only have capability for banning 500 avatars with Region Land Tools, and I need to keep some space available for banning the real "pita" types that occasionally show up. I suspect there are literally thousands of these bots, not hundreds, and I'm not inclined to bother hunting them any further when LL fully supports the creation of free accounts without any real enforcement of any limits.
  10. Jeremy, when was the last time you were able to watch movies in sl on this mac? There was or is a known issue with macs not playing nice with Adobe Flash after Adobe's version 11.7.700.x (I think they're up to 15.x now.) This has been going on for quite some time though, and it effectively disabled Parcel Media for mac users. Symptoms were exactly as you describe .... the screen goes black, and you hear the audio fine. Firestorm team has this well documented on their wiki (possibly in FAQ also). As I recall, fingers were pointed at Adobe for not considering Macs .... but then Adobe said it was Apple who made the decision to stay in a state of "techie obsolescence" while the rest of the world moved on. Bottom line, neither side did anything about it as far as I know. Solution was to uninstall Adobe Flash, and then go into Adobe's archives and load version 11.7.700 or lower. Please note, that if you do this, Safari will not play youtube videos or any others. Firestorm and Chrome (so far) don't seem to mind so much. Obviously, rolling back to 11.7.700 could be a security concern, but that's for you to decide. I can personally verify that Adobe Flash version 11.7.700.260 works for me in sl on my late 2011 MacBook Pro 17. EDIT: Typonese correction.

A pie menu comes up, select "More > More > Derender > Temporary" When you're ready for the wall to re-render, you can either relog, or teleport to another sim and come back again ... the wall will be where you first saw it.
  14. I would try camming inside the wall, which usually works for me. Since you've probably already given up on that option, then I would suggest derendering the wall .... you can render it again later. (I'm not sure if the official sl viewer has that option, but both singularity and Firestorm do.) Good luck!
  15. You should consider posting this question in "General Second Life Tech Discussion" under the "Technology Forum". I'm afraid your post may not be noticed in this "Forums Feedback" area. I'm not an expert, but I do know the NVIDIA GTX 780 is a chip I would love to have! I have a hunch that having two of them might be overkill, but I'll leave that for somebody more tech savvy to advise on. Good luck!

The disadvantage of renting private land from another user is that they can take your money and kick you out, and LL will do nothing. Never pay more than a week's rent in advance. As a longtime private estate owner & landlady, I take exception to this advice. Certainly there is always the chance of running into an unscrupulous or irresponsible land owner, but this risk exists every bit as much on mainland rentals as it does on private estate rentals. [advertisement removed] Not all land owners are thieves, but we continually get punished for the misdeeds of a small percentage. What do you take exception to? The fact that it can happen, which you agree with?, the fact that the OP was told that it can happen?, or the fact that mainland rentals weren't mentioned? It can and does happen, although it's very uncommon, so you can't take exception to that being said. It would be a disservice if the OP were not told that it can happen, so you can't take exception to that. Pamela didn't mention private islands or mainland. She just said "private land", and that can be on the mainland as well as on private islands, so that shouldn't generate any taking exception to either. So I'm inclined to think that the post was just an advertisement. Incidentally, I'm completely unaware of any "punishment" that land owners receive because of a few thieves. Would you enlighten me please? Hi Phil, I should have been more concise. I object primarily to the advice to "Never pay more than a week's rent in advance.". Following this advice on my sim, would mean the tenant would never benefit from the 20% discount (pay for 4 weeks in advance, get a 5th week free). As for how we full estate sim owners are punished, it is through lost revenues from potential customers who have been dissuaded from doing business with evil land owners such as myself. My advice would be for anybody to do their research, get references and/or recomendations, and then exercise a bit of common sense. Edited to add this: I am sorry you found my mentioning the name of my sim to be a blatant advertisement. It was not intended as such, and if you do a search of my previous posts you will see no pattern of this behavior. Perhaps in retrospect, I should have left the sim name off. But the rest of the paragraph you chose to delete went straight to the point that it's not inherently dangerous to pay for more than one week at a time, and in fact can be desirable.

Certainly there is always the chance of running into an unscrupulous or irresponsible land owner, but this risk exists every bit as much on mainland rentals as it does on private estate rentals. I've been offering homes for rent on my private sim "Turtle Bay" since 2007, and some of my tenants have been with me for that long. I have a long-running discount, where if the tenant pays 4 weeks payment, I throw in a week for free, so they get 5 weeks for the price of 4. If a tenant wishes to merely pay week to week, they are free to do so, but will receive no discounts. Not all land owners are thieves, but we continually get punished for the misdeeds of a small percentage. /rant off. Edited to correct a typo.

I'd try eliminating those two first. If it's still objecting, then remove "bush". All innocent words, and all examples of what the problem is with overly aggressive filtering. Good luck! Edit: I wasn't even thinking of the drug link, but Phoebe may well be correct. I was thinking it might be seeing "part" of the word "grass" and taking it in a sexual context. "Bush" could face that same connection, unfortunately.

(land impact now = 2) 8) Change physics shape to "convex hull". (land impact now =1) 9) There you go. You have 4 posts and the equivalent of 1 prim. No mesh or sculpties required. 10) This is the most important part: Please visit Ivory Tower Library of Prims as untold numbers have suggested to you before and start educating yourself on how to build. You'll find much more satisfaction in solving some of your problems rather than running into the forums 5 times a day with questions you could have figured out or easily googled. Save the forums for your "last resort". I've been in Second Life for almost 8 years, and you've been here just a few weeks. Yet you've posted over 200 more questions than I have ... what's wrong with this picture? Think about that, and start solving your own issues. Believe me, it will make others in here (including me) much more agreeable to helping you when you really need the support. Edit to add : Madelaine is a faster typer than me. Do as she said, but copy, link & make convex to achieve 1 land-impact (1 prim equivalent) for 4 posts. Edit again: Rolig gave you an excellent suggestion. Just make a 1 prim pedestal, maybe texure it as concrete or rock, and you're done! 1 last edit to be a little less critical & a little more nice.
  22. I'm not sure what's going on, but since you say you've "tried everything", I'll suggest one more thing to try that maybe wasn't on your list. Go to your world map, and search for Turtle Bay (or any other adult sim you know the name of). Try teleporting to the sim. It may stall the tp, and ask you if you wish to change your settings to adult .... just click "yes", and the teleport should complete and you'll be officially all grown up! Good luck!

I still keep the little 512 piece active but I have no objects on the piece nearest him. Sad to admit, he intimidates me. Why didn't I AR him? Just a resident dispute, didn't expect LL to be interested. In answer to your question, yes other people can still see any object you've derendered. As for your neighbor griping at you every time you put out a prim on your own land ... Why do you even care? Simply mute the fool, and go on with your second life. It's silly to let him spoil your day, when it's so easy to just ignore him. If he has alts or friends who bother you, then mute them too. Your last assumption is absolutely correct. LL is not interested.

  25. In my (not so humble) opinion, it's because LL can't be bothered to provide features that users desire. In fact, this is the precise reason why Firestorm, Singularity and several other third party viewers were even developed. They are here to give users a better experience than Linden Lab ever cared to provide. Okay, that's my rant against the Lab for today. Toddling off to my Singularity alpha viewer. :smileyhappy:
