  1. The risks are there, each person must decide for themselves how much they want to share. That's the whole entire premise of my argument - autonimy. SL is a tool. It is a virtual world, where people are found behind an avatar/s. It has terms, conditions, and outside of that, it has a endless realm of possibilities. My approach to it is to adjust my behaviour and expectations in accordance to the things I have seen, heard and encountered on SL. So I choose not to disclose certain information. Whilst that is what I believe to be the best decision for me, I don't hold everyone else to that. I don't believe just because I have chosen not to disclose certain information everyone else must also follow suit. SL has left it at the discretion of each individual how much information they want to share. Something else SL left up to every individual to decide for themselves is, how many accounts they should have, and how to manage said accounts. On the topic of outing Alts, I don't believe it should be a standard practice. I don't believe we need a Forums Special Operations Alt busting team. However, I do see the legitimacy of exposing a person behind an alt ( with evidence not speculation) if the person on the alt account is doing something against the rules that is bringing harm to others. I probably need to consider this aspect more carefully , haven't given it a lot of thought so my opinions aren't concrete..
  2. I'm way too excited about about black dragon and all it's settings. I was unsure whether to do a night image that would show the light from the lighthouse but ended up settling for the sunsetty vibe.
  3. It's always really sad when a product you know and love is no longer produced. Which reminds me.. Peeve: When a product you love is not loved enough to the point the producer no longer wants to produce it.. Peeve 2.0 : When a product you love starts to be loved by absolutely everyone and their mama and your special exclusive product becomes everyones special not very exclusive product
  4. There was a time when I decided that I wanted to be a coffee drinker. Don't ask me why ... So I bought a nespresso machine and *coughs* over 100 capsules... ( someone who never drank coffee mind you) The only way I could drink it was with a ton of syrup, creamer and whatever else. But after I started getting these awful stomach aches. By cup 15 I realised it was the coffee. So now I'm back to tea drinking exclusively. Favourites being : Jasmine and Green Tea, Peppermint and Green Apple. Peeve : my own compulsiveness
  5. I had to learn the hard way that there are certain topics that are not worth talking about on SL ( for me personally). I learnt this after the following situation occured. Patato, Beef and Ham were relaxing. Everyone was calm and getting on until Ham decided to bring up a sensitive topic he knew Patato and Beef had opposing perspectives on. Ham outed Patatos views on the subject to Beef knowing full well Patato doesn't like to discuss this topic. Beef started getting incresingly rude, and didn't want to respect Patatos choice not to talk about said topic. In the end Beefs passion for the topic was so strong he overstepped a lot boundaries and even the basic limits of respect. The whole thing could very well have been accidental but it wasn't an isolated incident. Ham did this sort of thing all the time.In the end Patato ended up leaving both Beef and Ham behind .. Peeve : People who throw rocks and hide their hands. People who don't know how to respect boundaries.
  6. Really chuffed about this picture because I finally downloaded Blackdragon and gave it a try. I've downloaded it in the past but struggled with basic things like walking lol. Findind all of the correct settings took me some time but I'm happy with the result. The pose thingy was a game changer for me.
  7. Whilst I love the summer Autumn is my favourite season. Enjoying the summer vibes but can't wait until Autumn.🍂
  8. And on today's episode of Alt busters, it has been concluded that Mr Kitty is in fact 62 year old Agnes Crumplebottom from Downtown Simville
  9. I basically operate the exact same way. Only thing I would add to that is that because of my understanding of SL being so openended I limit how much of SL friendships go into my real life. I tend to casually use voice and add a lot of people on discord ( I prefer it to sl voice because I can be elsewhere doing other things and still maintain conversation), we will often discuss real life issues but I NEVER give people my real life name, real life picture, real life social media , email etc. I have heard too many horror stories, and seen to many friends to enemies scenarios.
  10. My only issue with this situation had it happened to me or someone close to me is the issue of consent. I belive that being informed is a key part of consent and regardless of what the person was going through I would like to have been made aware of all of the facts before engaging in a relationship so that I could give informed consent.
  11. If Linden Lab had placed a stipulation where every person is only allowed to post from one account on forums or that every person had to have a in world representation of themselves I would agree with you. They haven't. Having more than one account and using more than one account isn't doing the wrong thing. There is litterally nothing wrong with having and using more than one account. If toxic people are using alt accounts in a toxic way it doesn't automatically mean that having alt accounts is toxic. It just means those people are toxic and probably need the block. Having more than one account doesn't necessitate lying. Arguably every Avatar on second life isn't 100% it's creator, that doesn't mean all second life creators are by default liars. I think acting as if having one account and posting from one account exclusively somehow signals virtue is so strange to me. Just as strange as someone having multiple accounts and being like, look how virtuous I am because I made the decision to have multiple accounts. Anywho Rowan, I've read a lot of your posts and generally agree with you very often but this is just a subject in which we both don't agree. I think I've dialogued enough to understand your point and know that I dont agree and maybe you've understand my point and also don't agree. Agree to disagree 🌼
  12. Hypothetically if I get myself an alt and post on here how many integrity points do I loose. Do I gain any for posting only on one account ? Do you loose more integrity points for each extra alt you post with ? Or is it like one time offense , you're out integrity 0 ?
  13. Yes I have met multiple people on SL and have had access to their real life. Some I have added on discord where we do calls etc. Others have shown me their personal social media as well as discussed their private lives with me. Surprisingly a lot of people seem to be quite willing to share stuff with you.
  14. You're right to say that personas don't have perspectives and it's the person behind them who does, I agree with that. Following that trail of throught it shouldn't matter what persona they post from because it will always present their own individual views. If person A only has a lamp account and a sofa account, they can use both. They can post on forums from both. It's perfectly reasonable. If their contribution to whatever thread is valid it doesn't matter if they posted from a table account , chair account or whatever else. If someone opens a thread about home owners in sl and a chair account comments the account their posting from doesn't have a direct impact on the view their sharing, because the view comes from the person behind the persona. If I open a thread about women, women accounts can comment, male accounts can comment, child accounts can comment .. anyone can comment because the person's account tells me nothing about the real experiences and perceptions of the person behind the account. On SL I tend to take everything at facevalue. Experiences here have shown me that most people are not what they appear to be, so I tend to focus more on what the person is saying as opposed to the persona who is saying it.
  15. I've had the exact opposite experience on second life. I've met quite a lot of people, who I had the chance to have had access to their real life and the life they live is drastically different from sl. They have a totally different persona on sl. SL allows people to be whoever and whatever they want without real life implications. Sex work on sl vs sex work in real life. This means people will do things in SL they wouldn't do in real life. In my experience people play in to that. Even I would say that I keep most of the things I hold most dearly off of SL. I don't like to discuss those things or those aspects of my life because I know those are sensitive subjects for me, and SL is a free for all. So I keep those things in my rl life only, as a way to safeguard my own mental sanity. It could be argued that without those core aspects of me the version of me people get on SL isn't 100% me. I've found the same to true in all medias, whether it be books, magazines, tv shows, documentaries, social media, 'reality' tv.. how much of it is ever real ? Let's say tomorrow I make an account where I want to be a table 24/7 I don't think me presenting as a table on SL and on forums is necessarily a negative thing.. Maybe I just really want to be a table. Maybe I just want to have a third account where I am a chair. Maybe I don't want those two accounts to have any associations. I don't think there needs to be any deeper justification for me to do that other than I felt like it. I don't think it's unethical or immoral or even dishonest. The general expectation of SL is that you can do those things.
  16. I see SL as a very open ended thing. Sort of like a tool that can be used in a variety of ways. I joined sl for my own personal reasons and the way I use sl is entirely personal. I can also understand that others do the same. SL is full of people with good intentions and bad intentions. People whose opinions align with mine and those who don't. People who I may like and some I may not. Just like real life all I can do is decide how I personally deal with it. So for me if you want to have 50 alts go right ahead. Want to like your own posts and hype yourself up - do that. Having a ton of alts or choosing to only have one account, posting from one account or posting from many accounts doesn't really bother me. In respect to the point about what people think should be done about it... I don't know that I would do anything about it. I think the deeper issue here isn't necessarily alts but rather toxic people using them in a toxic way, so for me I would deal with that just as I would with any other negative person.
  17. I'm hoping that with time someone will create a brand with more inclivity and better quality. Sort of like when Rihanna released fenty and a lot of other brands who had been pushing off inclusivity for years got with the program. But it's quite funny to read this thread because now that you guys mentioned it when I unpacked some of the demos ( from different stores) I did think "hmm that's not the colour it said on the packet" . I also do remember not finding much variety for my skintone when I went to the skinnery but I didn't pay it too much mind at the time.
  18. I have no particular technique, would love to know some actual theory when it comes to photography. Really enjoying this black and white topic.
  19. I like the ones by the skinnery. I don't find them to be too shiny. Edit: Ended up finding this image of when I was doing demos for a new skin. I've worn mainly mila then moccino and now the skinnery. The demos below are moccino , leronso and the skinnery in that order. I think there's a shine option on my head hud undure whether I had it on. If it's any help my method for demoing things like skins, heads, hair... is to compile a list od the stores then take a ton of demos. try each one on in the same outfit and same lighting for comparison. It also makes it easier to ask for opinions should I need one.
  20. “When I am out there, in time, I am inverted, changed into a desperate version of myself. I become a thief, a vagrant, an animal who runs and hides. I startle old women and amaze children. I am a trick, an illusion of the highest order, so incredible that I am actually true.”― Audrey Niffenegger, The Time Traveler's Wife
