The problem with that is it will discourage people from making alternate plans because they MIGHT get what they want, rather than taking a hard look at the situation and deciding whether to either wait or do something else

    yes

another issue with a wait list or a lottery list is tier and how would that be handled. Like if a person already has an a 1024m parcel on mainland or old Linden Home, then if they were assigned a house on the wait list or lottery then does their tier automatically increase. Or do people go to the parcel and claim the house first, after having abandoned their old home and if so then how much time do they have to do this before the offer is withdrawn, and so on. It starts to all get a bit murky when work through the various user perspectives

  2. i don't remember now exactly where I read it but Niran (Black Dragon) mentioned that the LL .anim format allows priority 5 and priority 6.  Niran was talking about the Poser tool in his viewer at the time, and that LL had told him that they would be interested in a code submission if he Niran wrote a .anim exporter for it, rather than the LLSD exporter that is currently in Black Dragon. Niran said at the time that he didn't think he would do the .anim exporter as its a lot of work and his Poser tool can load and save the LLSD files, so he didn't see why he would spend that time just for static poses

i am pretty sure this is right about priority 6, but I might be misremembering it

They are by law in many U.S. states, including mine, the only waiver given to 501c.3 non-profit organizations. Unless it's run by the state, of course. Because they don;t have to suffer the laws the dump on our backs. LOL

possibly, but it could then be argued that Premium accounts are like loot boxes / gachas. Everybody gets something. Most at the moment get a common (tier allowance) and some get a rare (houseboat or house) :D

The Devil's advocate version: A lottery would be "game of chance" which is against ToS. You ability to click through the claim web site *could* be considered a game of skill.

i think that it wouldn't be considered as a game of chance, as it doesn't cost any extra to play, as such.  When look at the Premium offering then I think it could be argued that it doesn't come with a home, it comes with a mainland tier allowance

and yes lol, the Refresh game could be considered a game of skill. And if so then has LL self-certified the skill game being played on their web service :D

  5. thinking about it a bit.  A way that a wait list could work would be like a lottery

put your name on different lists for houseboat and/or traditional

as each new batch is released. Spin the wheel and random assign them to people on the list. Send those people an inworld message and a email saying they have won a home and here is the LM/SLURL

if a person abandons their prize then its immediately random assigned to another person on the list. The person abandoning can put their name back on the list for the next lottery draw

  6. @MileyRosemarie Good on you for taking on board what people have been relating to you here

it can be a bit frustrating for sure when we put a lot of work into making something that we love and in the initial days it seems like we get  0 appreciation for it from visitors.  Like you say though we need lots of patience in the initial visitor retaining phase, changing little things up here and there as necessary, until we get sustainable traffic

keep your head up, stay strong, keep smiling and keep on loving and it will work out

i will relate 2 experiences of my own. One that worked out for the owner and one that won't

first the one that won't.  I like to play board games. Recently I have been playing Bubble Breaker. Try to get on the leader board, which can take several hours sometimes. I find the games in Search. My avatar traffic contribution to the parcel is 60 points an hour. 120 for 2 hours, etc.  I was playing the game on this really lovely well-decorated region, lots of effort and work had gone into it, which had advertised the Bubble Breaker game in their parcel description. I had been to the region 2 days in a row.  Just over 4 hours altogether.  On the second day the owner IM me and said that if all I was going to do there was play the game, and not use any of the other facilities, then I am not the kind of visitor the region was intended for. And that if I don't leave then I will be ejected. For both days while I was there nobody came to the region, other than the owner and the region manager. I never said anything back to the owner other than "ok sorry" and left as they asked me too

second the one that has worked out.  A person asked me to help build their region profile. I said that their region is them. That their region should reflect who they are,  what they like, and what makes them happy to log into every day. That when the owner is happy then the visitors pick up on this and come back.  So the owner stopped making it about the visitors and remade the region to reflect their own personality and likes. Which did then attract people who liked the same kind of things and had something in common with the owner, which they could talk about

the comparative point about the first region with the Bubble Breaker game. Why would we put this game on our region when we don't actually want people to come and play it

  7. given that you have no scripting knowledge at all then this is going to be a bit of a learning curve for you

is pretty simple for us on here to tell you to look up on the wiki: touch_start event and llDetectedKey() function

or to get you started, to post a script snippet that shows how  these are used to at least Say in chat who touched the object, and then how to compare the key of the avatar that touched the object to the key of the avatar you want to check for. What we can't really do is write for you, what you want to happen after this

if you just need a script to do something you want, then might be simpler to post in the Wanted forum on here and somebody will make it for you. Might cost you some L$, might not either depending on who replies

if you want to get into learning how to script then there are a number of places in SL that hold classes for script beginners. Use the inworld search to find them

i can post on here the script snippet if you like (just say so if so) but I am not sure how useful it will be to you, without you then putting in a bit of time to learn what else you will have to do yourself, to get it to do what you want

  8. i would like to see LL figure out what is the least number of regions that could be built out and released at one time. When it takes 4 weeks to make 40 regions then 10 a week ?  5 regions twice weekly ? 2 regions a day Monday to Friday ?

fewer regions dropped at once at shorter time intervals is better than more regions dropped at once at longer intervals. Feed them into the system on a faster cycle. As all many more people wanting a home will get one sooner

Thanks! I learned something new today. I had no idea how to make a facelight so this might come in handy as the previous one I bought looked awful and I deleted it.

more than likely the one you had just used the default Light values. Which has Intensity 1.0 (full strength) and Radius 10.0, which reflects light off everything within 10 meters of our avatar - xmas tree bright. It is this that gives face lights a bad reputation as xmas tree bright pretty much drives everyone nuts

  10. "hi, I would eject you after 15 seconds, but I won't as the Eject means you will end up on my neighbour's parcel, who has a ginormous dog that bites everyone"

"hi, don't mind the bees buzzing you ok. They are just making honey and you are ever so sweet to want to feed them"

"hi, if you wondering why that big eyeball is staring at you, don't worry ok. Its just broadcasting to a public website, what you are doing in my house"

"hi, next time you come in my house can you use the riffraff servants entrance please"

"hi, my neighbour always leaves their door unlocked. So you can go and sleep in their bed if you want. Seems their bed is really comfy as lots of other people get in it"

  11. you might want to look again at wearing a facelight

the secret to good face lights is making them really subtle. To get the shadow wash out effect that you are wanting

not sure if you know how to make your own, so I just put here how I go about it

    1) rez a prim. Name it "facelight". Take it back into inventory. Then attach it to your chin.
    2) while wearing it then Edit it and move the prim out a bit in front of your face, then:
    3) Object panel: set all X,Y,Z size to 0.01
    4) Features panel:
    - tick Light. (you will light up like a xmas tree to begin with)
    - set Intensity to 0.5, Radius to 0.5, Falloff to 0.5. Leave FOV, Focus, Ambiance at 0.0
    - you are now in the area of where you want to be in terms of light. So that nobody will hardly even know that you are wearing a facelight. Just that you look gorgeous :)
    - then starting playing with the values. Tiny bit up or down depending on what effect you exactly want
    - other thing is to play with moving the facelight prim, up, down, closer or further away from your face
    - the other other thing is to subtley color tint the light to better match your skin/makeup. Next to the Light tick is the Color button
    5) When all done, then Texture panel:
    - set the prim to a Transparent texture which is in Inventory\Library, or Blank texture and set Transparency to 100

    6) detach the facelight so that the changes you made will stick, then re-attach and you good

when you have different avatars then can make a facelight specific tailored for each. And/or for different outfits/makeups

a caveat:  we can use the Point light option on the Features panel to do this also. The downside is that Point lights only work as point lights when ALM is turned on. When not they act like normal lights. So I prefer to make mine as normal lights so that the light effect is consistent across all graphics settings

I have the biggest grin on my face right now. :D

Welcome back! I've been wondering where you were! It makes my heart happy to see you.

Didn't we go through the history lecture thing the first time we met? LOL

    thanks  :)

and yes lol. I am still on the same waka/canoe. So nothing much changed about that

and tbh I have come on SL in between my paid fors, at different times to help friends make/achieve the SL goals they have set for themselves. Mostly to do with setting up their regions and communities. After which I dropped back out again because RL time demands

i am though enjoying SL again on my own account. Has been good to own my own place and stuffs again :)

  13. with Premium we get a 1024m tier allowance which we can apply to mainland. Our options are:

    1) Get a new Linden Home, which LL are currently rolling out, which uses all our 1024m tier allowance. We must use the building provided, however there are styling options which we can use to adapt the look of the building. This home comes unfurnished
    2) Get an old Linden Home which uses 512m of our 1024m allowance. We must also use the building provided, it has some styling options also. It is also unfurnished. We can then use the remaining 512m and apply it to another 512m parcel elsewhere on mainland. We can have 2 homes this way. We have to buy this 512m from the current parcel owner. These parcels typically come bare, we have to provide our own buildings and furnishings
    3) Buy a 1024m parcel on mainland from the current owner. Or we can divided it down further into smaller separate parcels as we prefer: 2 * 512m parcels or 1 * 512m + 2 * 256m, etc. Again these parcels typically come bare. We have to provide all content ourselves
    4) We can contribute our tier allowance (or part) to a group that owns a parcel(s). We can be the owner of the group. When we do this then we (the group) get a 10% group parcel bonus.

basically the Premium doesn't come with a Home out the box. It comes with tier. Which we can divide as we prefer. I give an example based on what I have:

    - i have two homes

    - i own a old Linden Home. I own this in my own name. It costs me 512m tier. Leaving me 512m tier

    - i made a group. I am the owner of the group. I made an alt account and added it to my group. A group must be 2 or more accounts. I contributed my remaining 512m tier to my group. My group then bought a 560m mainland parcel. 512m + 10% = 512 + 51.2 = 562.2. 560m is the amount of group-owned land that we can get for 512m tier

    - were I to abandon my old Linden Home and contribute that 512m tier to my group, then my group can obtain 1120m of mainland for my 1024m tier allowance

  14. i saw an interview with Ebbe Linden over on Hamlet Au's blog recently

in it Ebbe Linden said that the issue holding up last names is ensuring that there is a robust process to handle when people change their names, that there remains a relationship between all past names (as we could have had more than one) and our current name

a example of this is the intended llName2Key(...) script function. A newer script may be asking for the key of our current name, whereas an older script may be asking for the key of an older name of ours.  Both scripts need to return the same key

he never said when this work would be complete, just that it is being worked on. Which we can take to mean as soon

    Elizabeth? Is that you?

    yes :)

i am back on SL with a paid for account. I read that the new Premium Homes were coming and I thought oooh! I have a look and see. They are better than the old for sure. I do have a few reservations about them for me personally but is all good. Lots of people are pretty happy with them and I can be happy for them

this is my 3rd paid for account now on SL. I get tempted by land.  Last time was the old Linden Homes and before that the First Land

At my age I really do not need history lectures. Suffice it to say that I'm all too well versed in such subjects considering my people have been on this continent for a few thousand years longer than the European immigrants.

sometimes a conversation of our own country's history can be helpful. I find that so for myself

the last time somebody told me that they didn't want to hear their own history from me, was a person on the other side of of a treaty settlement negotiation table

on the side matter you have raised. If we are going to produce the I-was-here-first because native card and any other view than my own can be dismissed on this basis then:

kia ora, ka mihi ahau ki a koe. Ko Maungamuka te maunga. Ko Hokianga te awa te moana. Ko Ngapuhi te iwi. Ko te whare o Eruera Maihi Patuone te tupuna.
(hello, I greet you. Maungamuka is my mountain. Hokianga is my harbour. Ngapuhi are my people. I am from the house of Eruera Maihi Patuone my ancestor)

a real world thing today is that nobody cares really about who was in a land first. What people care about is that we are here now, as we are now, and how do we go forward from here

where past history is important is in knowing how we got into an adverse situation that we are in now. From this then: What reparations if any can be made for what did happen. What did actually happen that would warrant reparation. And most importantly what do we need to put in place now so that it doesn't happen again

what has happened to other native peoples who went through colonisation is of importance and of practical help to me. I learn from those experiences and they help me to better understand my own thoughts and expectations of what may be useful, what may be possible, what may succeed, in our own continuing negotiations for a pathway forward for all of us together

kia ki ai tou wairua i te rangimarie. kia ki ai tou ora i te hari

  17. @Selene yes, if we now citing slave emancipation then some others are

    600 BC. Solon of Athens
    500 BC. Cyrus of Persia
    300 BC. Ashoka of India
    10 AD. Xin of China
    900 AD. Pietro of Venice
    1300 AD. Louis of France
    1400 AD. Isabella of Castile
    1600 AD. Feodor of Russia
    1700 AD. Holt of England

there were also many other times when slaves were emancipated, in whole or part, and in some cases this was overturned by subsequent generations to some degree or other. Followed by future generations having to re-establish slave emancipation and build upon this to end the practice of slavery once and for all. A least in those societies which believe in the ideal that all persons are treated equally under the law

in some cases lip service was paid to the ideal of equal under the law, and the doctrine "equal but separate" took hold and the institutions of society were re-ordered to effect this. Institutional segregation. US Supreme Court 1896 Plessy v Ferguson being an example of this

yes the US people who did fight and those who did die, to end slavery in the USA are to be acknowledged with respect and gratitude. As we also acknowledge those who lost their lives during WW2. Understanding also that those who did live through this, then looked at their societes and thought never again, particularly in the western democracies

in the US post-WW2 they also looked at the "equal but seperate" doctrine that had permeated US society since the US Civil War and decided to do something about it in terms of institutional change. Those doing something about it institutionally included 9 white male Supreme Court justices in the 1950s, as well as many other democratically-elected representatives thru the legislative and regulatory processes. The operative being that they actually started to do something about ending segregation rather than just talk about it. This is not to diminish the efforts of those in the US who did fight against segregation down through the years between the US Civil War and WW2. Nor of those who continue the struggle subsequently, up and to today, and no doubt into the future also

would the institutional representatives have done this without vanguard activists ? Possibly, possibly not. What we do know for certain is that in the aftermath of WW2 they did, that the then activists did what they did also. And that activists and institutional representatives, continue to do what they do down the generations since including today, as these things always go

but anyways this all said, LL have decided to throw a birthday party for all the grandparents and great parents in SL is how I see it. And I will go and be happy for them.

@Scylla. yes I would like to see at least one or two of the display parcels include some acknowledgment of the more serious efforts made by those who did what they could to make society a better place in those days

  18. the 1950s was a decade of hope. Hope for people in western societies who had come through 2 World Wars and the Depression

the seeds for civil rights, emancipation, social justice, democracy and the strengthening of societal institutions to foster the growth of these, were sown in that decade. It is true that there was resistance by some parts of society against all of these things, as there still is today

i am grateful though to my great/grandparent generations for what they set in motion and I am happy to remember them and what they did for me, in this celebration

  19. sometimes it can help when we write out the results. e.g:

    string msg = "Name1";

    if (msg != "Name1" || msg != "Name2")

msg != "Name1"  is FALSE.  msg != "Name2" is TRUE

if (FALSE || TRUE) is TRUE.  "Name1" is added to list

if (FALSE && TRUE) is FALSE. "Name1" is not added to list
