    Unfortunately, the limits make the land look fake. The sim butts up against a null ocean and I can't lower the land to the waterline so now there's a  ridiculous cliff. There has to be a way to beg for special dispensation. I know LL has a very small SL staff anymore, but this situation is just stupid.

    yes that's not good. Mainland continents that are incomplete.  Best you can do is file a Support Ticket and ask. Not sure how you will get on

    only other thing I can suggest in this case is to drop a cliff face object down into the water, so there is at least some aesthetic flow

  2. on mainland no. The +/- levels are what they are

    best we can do when we want to lower is to lower as far as it will go, then flatten. Then to keep faith with the neighbours, smooth the edges of our parcel so our parcel terrain blends better with the neighbouring parcels

    a way I go about this is to cut out the middle of the parcel so is 2 parcels. The center parcel and a 4 meter border around the edge boundaries. Lower/Flatten the center parcel as one unit. When is flat then select the border parcel as one unit and Smooth it.  When is as smoothed in with the flat center and the neighbours as it is ever going to get, then Join the edge parcel back to the center parcel

  3. adding to what @Profaitchikenz Haiku said

    link the mesh to a prim. Prim as root. In the prim then script:

    default
    {
        state_entry()
        {
            llSetClickAction(CLICK_ACTION_TOUCH);
        }

        touch_start(integer total_number)
        {
            llSay(0, "Touched.");
        }
    }

    then when the mesh is a skirt say, attach it to your hip, size the prim to fit close-ish so it can be touched  as if touching the mesh, set the prim to transparent

    with a mesh tail which can wiggle quite a bit then make a prim cylinder as root, set transparent, and wrap it around the tail base close to your butt, so is easier to touch the root prim

  4. my basic strategy is to link my build to a standard box prim as the root. Then set the whole lot to Physics Shape Type: None. Then work thru each linked piece, setting only the must-be pieces to Physics Shape Type: Convex Hull. When this increases the LI (or doesn't give the wanted outcome for things like door frames, etc) then try Physics Shape Type: Prim and go with the lower (or go with Prim when Convex Hull blocks passage)

    this doesn't always go as well as I think it should. Some days it goes easy as. Other days the numbers are not as they should be, which drives be bananas

  5. i like playing board games in SL. I like to see if I can get on leader boards and working out what strategies are needed to do this. Recently I have been playing Bubble Breaker, before that Greedy Greedy. Both games I have kinda sussed

    so I decided to have a go at No Devil, and off to a skill gaming region

    i have worked out that the way this particular region (which shall remain nameless) has set up the game, means that I always win. Not win heaps, at the moment I am L$60 ahead of the game and unless the rules get changed I will always win. Winning by exploiting a loophole in their setup. I am not going to say how its done, but if I keep going back then I am sure the operator is going to catch on and one of three things will happen:

    1) Either I will be persona non-grata there, or
    2) The operator will change the rules, or
    3) The operator will laugh and say that for the amount of time I have to put in to get my whole L$60 I am being way underpaid :)

    It might be able to handle that many, but can you send the required amount of data down the pipe .. 2300 agents .. 1kb each, 2300kb needs to be sent to every avatar per second to keep them all upto date ..that's 5,290,000kb per second total. Before you have sent a single avatar any information about anything they can actually see.

    I'm going to say, fat chance.

    it's the number of requests at any given moment that are the issue, not so much how many connections there are. There can be up to 65535 simultaneous TCP connections per server. Requests are queued and it takes time to process them. The bigger/better the hardware/pipes the faster the queue is processed and responses sent

  7. can do it for even cheaper. I have a OpenSim server running on a laptop with 4G RAM and a i3. Which can handle 2300 agents simultaneously. The server-side agent handling is the easy part

    the only hard part server-side is physics simulation and maintaining client interaction with this. When hand the physics simulation off to the clients then it gets even easier.  As from the server's pov it's then not any different to a combined chat and page server

    the real world issues that requires answers aren't caused by the servers really. The issues are caused by the client devices, particularly assets individualised by users. Asset management on the client is the hard part when have a streaming asset service which the client interacts with

    that was the entire point , i'd insult how dense you are or even question if you are purposely derailing this conversation , but i am civil

    the Maitreya Lara body is no-modify. It has other things that I like about it. I buy it as those other things out-weigh my preference for modify. This is logical.  I have a SL dog. It is no-copy/transfer. I would like it to be copy. It isn't. I like the dog for other reasons that out-weigh my preference for copy. This is logical

    not the case for TMP now is it ? see this is also called an observation , you might wanna learn how to logic 101

    you might wanna observe that logic is not the same as binary. That a discussion about what we like, is not the inverse of what we don't like

    I don't. The different mesh bodies will still have a different architecture that will still require skin makers to release specialty skins and one 'generic' that might fit all (or no) mesh bodies. Try downloading the Baked On Mesh test viewer and applying one of your old system skins to a variety of bodies. It doesn't work like that at all. And hands will always need an applier. Have you seen Maitreya hands with a generic Maitreya applier or nail polish?

    yes. From what I gather the established designers are making new bodies that take advantage of BoM. As these BoM-enabled bodies become more commonly available then the current bodies will get retired by us the users. And yes there will be some people who will continue to use the old bodies as they do now. Just that should BoM bodies be preferred by their customers then the old bodies will not be upgraded by the designers

    As I argued earlier (I feel we're going in circles), 'subject to availability' is simply an implicit given. Besides, their wording is entirely accurate 'as is,' as you can always 'get a Linden  home when you sign up for a Premium account.' Always. In my entire life in SL, I have never experienced a shortage of them to the degree that none were available.

    you would be right when you always got a home, when you wanted one.  This is not true for everyone. It's not true now for the new homes. It wasn't true when the old Linden Homes were first released, and it wasn't true for everyone with the First Land program

    when go back through the forums then the same point being made now, was also being made at the time of old Linden Homes and at the time of First Land. The First Land program was probably the worst. LL were still advertising First Land parcels as a Premium benefit. months, after the First Land program was discontinued

    'You can get a Linden home when you sign up for a Premium account.'

    this is why we do end up with laws. It would be trivial for LL to add "You can get a Linden  home when you sign up for a Premium account. Your choice of Linden home is subject to availability"

    " Kinda like your local bakery sells loafs of bread 'subject to availability' -- without actually putting that little caveat on his door. I mean, 'subject to availability' is simply implied for most all goods you buy, really (scarcity is a beatch, but a rather fundamental economic principle nonetheless)"

    weeelll not quite right

    the baker parallel is when the baker takes your money and after taking it, then says we actually ran out of bread, come back soon ok and hopefully we will have some for you one day soon

    if the baker had said pay for the bread now and I will get it to you as soon as I am able then that would be different. But that's not the case here. The case here is buy my bread now, and then find out after paying that there isn't any bread now. Your bread is coming. Soon

    its this absence of pertinent information that leads to consumer laws and all the stuff that goes with them. Is not a big deal for LL to change the description of what they are selling so that the customer before paying is able to make an informed decision

    is not just the availability of the new Linden Homes where this is again an issue. The same thing happened with the old Linden Homes when they were introduced. And before that with the Premium Free Land program.  People being told that they would get a product on payment, and then not getting it

    Nowhere in the the promotion and info re Premium Membership and free Linden homes does it say the homes are "subject to availability."

    this is actually a valid point. Yes it should say that Linden Homes are subject to availability on the Premium sign-up page

    im still looking forward to BOM

    me too. It will I think mean the eventual end of body onion layers, and alpha huds.  And after a time as BoM becomes the new standard, most (but not all) people will have boxed away, or outright deleted, their current bodies because new technology available to us. In the same way that most (but not all) people have boxed away, or outright deleted, all their prim clothes

    we are kinda in a holding pattern at the moment as we wait for LL and for what BoM body designers will offer us. From what I have heard all the established body designers are working on BoM bodies, so is going to be quite interesting what they come up with technically

    and interesting in how they position their offerings in terms of pricing and/or their current lifetime upgrade policy. Like is a BoM body a new product or does the designer see it as an upgrade. I would not be surprised, and I personally would be ok with, designers who present their BoM body as a new product, with a discount for their existing customers

    That's not even a choice. Goodbye streaming, music and videos. That is one aspect of SL I could care less about. I can't think of anything more boring than standing around in a club watching my avatar dance when I could be off doing something else with YouTube in the background.

    i am your opposite then. Often I will be on my parcel listening to the stream, playing dances on my dance HUD as the music takes me. Or often also at a SL club on the line dance with other people letting all the open chat wash over me. While I am working on stuff in RL.. When I do this, which is quite a lot, then I think of it as 3D radio

    I don't know if I'm just easily suggestible, but I'm kind of curious now. Even though I am NOT brand new, do NOT want to spend 5K, and am suspicious of The Shops in general. .

    is called decadence :)

    knowing that you spent  L$5K on what is a pretty ok looking body when you had no reason too other than you can. Knowing that not many others are going to get it because they maybe can or can't,  you can. It could be functionally worthless tomorrow but you still got it because you can. Knowing that lots of people are going to ask why you did and you can only say because you can. So you did

    Linden is so good!

    not everything is down to Linden always.  Earlier up in this thread a person who lives nearby said they had mentioned the matter to the resident concerned. And the resident maybe went oh! yeah and removed it themselves. Often more can be accomplished by chatting to the person rather than immediately reaching for the AR guns

    Then I would have to login with two computers at the same time, right? If you're in one viewer, you could only have one avatar active, I think.

    can have multiple viewers running at the same time on the same computer. So can have different accounts running on the same computer at the same time

    Preferences \ Advanced \ Allow Multiple Viewers

  20. i just add to the conversation that the LSL Mono/CIL compiler doesn't always follow the CIL book. LL have a custom-made compiler. For example this code snippet is allowable on LSL compiler (which follows Standard C language conventions) and on LSL Mono compiler

    default
    {
        state_entry()
        {
            integer x = 1;
            if (x)
            {
               integer x = 2;
               llSay(0, (string)x);
            }
            llSay(0, (string)x);
        }
    }

    i think that when LL ported LSL to Mono/CIL then they had to follow the C conventions in building their CIL compiler so that LSL scripts could be compiled to Mono/CIL without breaking them, which would have happened to some scripts had they not. The standard Mono/CIL compiler would raise a compile time error on this code snippet
