  1. Nobody asked for a Tilia. Or the fee increases needed to fund it. Or the massive controlling stake it has in the direction of the platform, now from even further away. Thune could easily block adult content in their terms and conditions, or anything else we do, and we have to obey. Thune could be forced into this trying to build legitimacy of their business making deals with banks and credit providers. This is how we do a Tumblr.
  2. I'm glad you're having fun. We all deal with things in different ways, and I guess being the top poster already here mean's you're quietly freaking out too. Don't worry, there will always be other forums whatever happens here.
  3. This feels like a massive betrayal. Did the sale include battery street .. are we actually homeless now?
  4. Well. We all saw this coming. Now LL gets to go down with the debt.
  5. For every rule you will get two jerks. One who stands as close to the rule as possible. One who tries to wield the rule with the broadest possible interpretation as a weapon.
  6. No he really doesn't. His worthless option boils down to 'What he likes is fine, what he doesn't like should be punished and removed from society'.
  7. Who do you imagine makes all, as in literally almost all, the G rated content and activities in SL. It's child avatars, those with child avatar alts, or family members with child avatars. Didn't you ever notice so many mole's (and Linden's) have child or child like avatars. Child avatars are disproportionately prevalent amongst the creator community. They are rare to see as SL's majority sex focused population can't imagine anyone doing anything else in SL and tend to freak out.
  8. There i a VR client kicking about that I have had working with the Quest3. It's awful, and it's VR, and it will make you wanna puke. Quest3 > Steam Link > Desktop > SL in a 2D floating window while you play other VR titles is totally a thing. (Nvidia only) If you have a second GPU and launch SL by R. click on on the shortcut picking the second, then your main VR game will run on your main GPU and SL wont slow it down. Quest3 > SideQuest > Android Steam Link .. also a thing and not the same as the Quest app store steam link.
  9. I'm not sure how a "community round table" can function with a community as large and diverse as Second Life's. Betting that no more than 1% of the entire active userbase will even know it's happening and only a tiny fraction of that will ever attend. We've had specific subject user groups for years and they have been broadly one sided and poorly attended. I've been asked to raise things at the TPV developer 'round table' and when I point out that they can come and raise it themselves, in fact, it would be better and might go further if they did, they back out. Everytime.
  10. It wont be mandatory, that was a poor choice of words on my part that got picked up by the resident pedants. 2048 textures will become the de-facto norm as no creator given the option will elect to create lower "perceived quality" items. 2K is "mandatory" because bigger numbers more better Mesh is "mandatory" because no will buy things made from prim.
  11. because this affects the shape of our community and all systems and rules pertaining to social outcomes can and will be abused effectively
  12. They aren't uncommon in young adults here, visible ones are the norm because cheaper.
  13. This misconception that M i somehow neatly between G and A tanks all attempts to define boundaries that users can follow. Please take some time to read the definitions. We went though all this during the 2007 panic. G rated is too restrictive for Disney. Following the rules as written, a good F bomb comes with a ban (and LL used to enforce this!). M is everything up to and including strip clubs, burlesque clubs, latex pony play, homes full of sex furniture, bondage devices, cats and dogs living together .. all so long as it's behind closed doors and not publicly promoted. A adds the ability to sell sex (and other intensely graphic stuff) and to advertise and publicly promote it. A rated doesn't mean ADULT. A means PUBLICLY PROMOTED ADULT. G rated is safe for the tele-tubbies. M rated is safe to watch and act out scenes from the human centipede in your own home. A lets you publicly invite people over to spectate and charge an admission.
  14. It's only ever a matter of time before every companies database ends up for sale some place. All it takes is one small slip, one change in policy or procedure, one change in some bit of software so generic no one is checking it twice, and bam .. game over. Through a combination of skill and luck, we haven't had to endure that. But at some point we will. The only question is how bad is it going to be. They more they have and keep, the more we have to lose.
  15. They wont be mandatory in the sense that YOU MUST USE THEM ! They will be mandatory for all creators to use, in the same way that making content from mesh is mandatory. I fully expect the majority of creators to switch to 2k over night, anything else will just be low rez junk.
  16. Oh .. oh my. It's going to be a poop-show and will require official identity documents, passports, id cards, drivers licences, etc. We did this already. There's good reasons why LL tossed age verification in the trash, not least of all was a huge break to participation and growth. It disproportionately affects minority demographics. I've lost many hours performance testing SL's texture pipeline that I will never get back. One 1024 is far faster and less overhead than 4x 512 textures at every stage of the asset fetch render pipeline. Less network. Faster to fetch. Faster to load into VRAM. Faster to render. The size of the download is the least impactful part of the entire process.
  17. Many small textures are more work for the viewer than a single big texture. Don't ever use multiple 512 textures when you can get away with a single 1024 or now, 2048. Performance doesn't die because of one big bad, it dies from many small individually insignificant cuts.
  18. Services are withdrawing rather than try and jump though those hoops to a legal standard. It's not a solved problem and comes with 1st amendment baggage in the US.
  19. 2K offers a step change in both the detail and optimization creators can use. Fewer textures with better results all round and if used right, faster to render than objects with multiple 1K textures. It's only optional in the sense that we all have the option not to use mesh bodies.
  20. One of our other reddit mods just posted this image in combination with a long and detailed post about how new tighter rules for child avatars in effect bans child avatars. This is a section of the blake, G regions are in blue. Remember .. an M region includes everything up to and including strip clubs and latex clad pony play fetishists, the only thing avatars can't do on M is sell or perform sex. if proximity is going to be the new standard, then no M region can be considered even remotely safe. I guess we don't need worry about child avatars in boats after all, or any vehicle, or playing GTFO .. fishing .. shopping .. Here is Bay City, home to many family friendly events. The organizer of those events will be unable to attend her own events, she wont be able to go to her store. Here's one last map of Satori .. No drivers of SL, no go-karts, no family RP homes, no going anywhere .. Remember .. M isn't half way between G and A, it's A without the blackjack and hookers. Remind me again what this has to do with the allegations.
  21. 2K textures are mandatory going forward. They are a good thing that SL has desperately needed for years and will improve render performance. They are not free for PP.
  22. I am upset that premium plus "free uploads" are now junk.
  23. On the new rules for child avatars. More rules for residents because of recent allegations against staff is not the solution to those allegations. It's pandering to people who skimmed over the whole thing and assumed there was guilt. Users with entirely innocent uninvolved child avatars did not cause this mess and should not be made the scapegoat and punished for it, regardless of what anyone personally thinks about them. --- To elaborate here .. even something simple like banning child avatars from proximity to adult content is a train wreck that makes it unsafe to have a child avatar anywhere in SL. In practice "proximity" means that a child avatar can't be in a boat, even an innocent boat, because every other boat is really a boat shaped sex bed. How do child avatars shop for furniture .. all stores sell PG and Adult side by side. How do child avatars exist in public spaces where anyone can walk up sporting no end of spicy content. What if someone rezzes a mobile sex bed (aka a CAR) on M land, drives it on mainland roads, and passes a child avatar. That child avatar on G land and is now in proximity. Restricting child avatars to G land is also not a solution, mainland is hopscotch of G and M (with some private A regions just for fun). So restricting to G actually bans child avatars from region crossings. This isn't hyperbole .. the original rules and definitions are so fuzzy because of issues like this, LL couldn't solve this back in 2007 in a way that didn't outlaw an entire section of the community as a side effect.
  24. Not set up right .. group land not being deeded is pretty common. So you get the warning and nothing happens.
