  1. I'd not say that this reclassifies "any form of nudity" as adult content. No, it's more that the new TOS language carves out a specific and narrow rule that child presenting avatars and locations with expected and/or encouraged nudity cannot commingle: IE not at a M rated nude beach even where no other adult activity is expected or encouraged.
  2. That'd be how I do it on the actual body level: Make the body with the base mesh being all BOM that'd hold skins/tattoo/system layer clothes, make it toggle-able (maybe) for appliers skins. Then add a block of mesh faces over the top of those areas that require modesty that would be permanently opaque in whatever apropo styling. Not that hard in the grand scheme of things really. that way it could never be gotten around and it wouldn't depend on skin makers to do the work.
  3. ooof. Let me join in the chorus of other who have proclaimed getting caught up. 66 pages, started reading a several hours ago. I had 13 quote reply along the way but removed most of them as being a) I forgot what point I was going to add b) my points had been addressed by others, and c) fatigue. I agree that some clarification is going to be needed a lot on this issue, but my own take on it is that if the content creator is making the actual body that a modesty layer that sits above skin and tatoo needs to be permanently attached to the mesh, or simply disallow BOM completely and make a skin with the modesty baked on. OR for content creators that are making more youth oriented/specific skins only that are specifically created to "de-age" some of the other more mainstream bodies by significantly de-emphasizing the chest and waist/hip areas (among others) by adjusting the light/shadows shadings in those areas would have to bake modesty layers onto those skins. (Disclaimer here. I have no idea if there are content creators doing this, this is just supposition on my part. I remember the days before mesh bodies where a thing and skin makers did all sorts of tricks to create the illusion of body contours that really weren't there all that much with just shadows and highlights, so my logical leap is that there quite possibly be skin makers who use the same tricks to create more youthful looks for that market. ) Now granted in in this second case it'd fall completely to the end user that uses them to not try to get around the modesty blocks by other means, but the skin maker would themselves be in compliance. But that is how I am personally interpreting that "OR" clause in the FAQ.
  4. another name. Mocksoup Graves. Made some absolutely fantastic makeups before mesh heads where a thing. I think she tried the applier route but her style of makeups (made for layering) just really didn't work with appliers. I keep hoping she'll return since BOM is the thing now.
  5. if second life is leaking into real life, I don't want lamps with spider legs, or titan collapsible subs, or heaven forbid back rooms style encounters. None that, not ever! No, I want teleportation dagnabbit!. Oh, and and flying! ... shoes that don't pinch. and no bad hair days. </ponders on more good things to leak from second life that is not spider legged nightmare lamps <shudder>>

  8. and movement too? That's a tell yes? This what I meant by uncanny valley finger movement. before the top screen clip, that middle finger was folded all the way back against the palm....😬 <shudders>
  9. And if that was going to happen it would already be the 5 o'clock news. It's not. There are blips now and again, but when people come poking around they find: What is going to be seeing is a bunch of people trying to create a semblance of of RL in the digital world. IE: for the new - boring. Oh sure they can try and focus on the the seedier side, but the truth will out.
  10. Doubtful. I had similar happen to me about 2 months ago. I thought it might have been related to a tiny Tilia cash balance I had hanging out after I had cashed in some Linden Dollars to pay for my land tier. That when I was charged monthly tier the next month the Tilia balance was taken but that short circuited the fall through to take the rest the via my CC. Might just as easily have been a momentary glitch between Tilia and my CC company that cased the transaction to fail. In either case, I manually initiated the charge to my CC and then last month everything worked like it was supposed to. (I'd watched it closely though to be sure).
  11. The aesthetics of the avatar's don't bother me at all. Hosting the video interview/conversation within the Second Life environment is something I really do like since it's target audience really is us, the residents; we like to see "our world" normalized and utilized and that "they" are here with us. That all said, I think there needs to be better animations in the chairs for these events. That one hand gesture with the single finger curling under and back.... first the index finger then the middle finger curled all the way under... all by itself with none of the other fingers moving even slightly.... That's unnatural, can't be done irl. Uncanny valley material right there. That was the only truly distracting thing about the video for me. And I'm not even talking about it for the interview now, but in general: what animator thought that was a good idea? I mean really?!? But maybe that's just me.

  13. Second thought, on this. Whens some actually looks in here and sees what "can" go on, they are going to see a lot of dance clubs, a lot of beaches, a fair amount of roleplay in (not so) Happy Valley, a lot of malls for shopping, lots of art and creativity. and among all of that *some* adult oriented activity and products. In the sea of all that's available in Second Life that aspect is not that significant as a core activity. When you look at it closely, Second life really is a microcosm of RL in many ways. And when, IRL, a person makes a cash advance on their credit card Visa has no say on what they do with that cash, nor does the ATM network. They won't even block the transaction from such locations like strip clubs because there is a level of opaque separation, even there.
  14. I"ll circle back to a previous comment I made that this is not an apples apples comparison here. The payment processor is not dealing directly with the people providing that level of "adult entertainment", or makers of related products. And people on the outside are not paying directly for such services or products. In all cases it's very neutral Linden Dollars, or simply game tokens. By neutral, I mean for the payment processor it is simply buckets of currency being moved around for what is considered a game company. When a person buys Linden Dollar game tokens there is no restrictions or conditions (outside for the Second Life TOS) on how they are used. When a person cashes out Linden Dollar game tokens there is no discussion on if they came from the sale of clothes/shoes, the rental of land, or from adult oriented activities and products. In most other cases of clearly adult entertainment there is a much closer association between the people involved and the activities involved that can give payment processors, like Paypal and credit card companies, more latitude to flex control. That is not the case here in this space IMO. I agree that it's a wait and see, but again IMO there is a very opaque borderline wall between Second Life and the activities herein and the "house" Payment Processor, and then by extension even more of a wall for other up/down stream payment processors and credit providers, And for that reason, I don't foresee much change, drastic or otherwise, on what happens inside the borders of SL as a result of this acquisition.
  15. I was lucky to get a Bluesky invite fairly early on. I've not wholly divested myself from X née Twitter since there are a tiny handful of personalities I follow who are still there (some have a BlueSky presence but don't do anything /sigh). I've got threads via instagram but don't do much.... with either. I do like Bluesky a whole lot.
  16. Blog Post 19/March. Though to be fair, I caught the news of it at the Server Users Group meeting. And I was mistaken in thinking it was something that was being developed in house. The meeting was over a month ago and my memory is fuzzy on granular details. So, it's apparently something different/better than vivox, and maybe better privacy security, but not an in house dev project. I point back up to my ramble about Ultima Online. So long as SL is able to pay it's own bills and still generate some profit for whomever is running, I don't see it going away for a long while yet. for a given value of long. It may shrink and loose what relevance it still has, but it'll still have a heartbeat and active, though admittedly diminished, development. that's my own personal take so we'll see in 5 years who's right.
  17. It sounded to me that while there might be a few customers signed on that they are not doing anything at scale and at the end of the day SL is effectively it's sole customer.
  18. I custom built mine in 2019 and tried to future proof it as much as possible for several years into the future. I think I spent around 2000 on it and it's beginning to feel lower mid. But I've also replaced out the spinning drives for SDDS recently, and also the video too so that's helped a fair amount.
  19. Ultima Online launched in 1997.... 27 ish years ago, give or take a couple of months. It's by no means what I would consider a commercial bonanza or cash cow. Yet it It's still got active development and must make enough to pay for it's underlying infrastructure (rent, servers, electric, comms, salaries, etc) to justify it's continue presence in the world of Online Entertainment. Not wholly apples to oranges, but a realistic take is that so long as Second Life has enough income to balance the sheets and then some for a modest profit to.... whomever, it's going to stick around. Ultima has been sold a couple of times I think, and the current owners being Broadsword Online Games who gives it enough love and attention to keep the heartbeat alive. So, will Second Life ultimately get sold? It's a possibility to be sure. That's just a cold reality. But the real kickers is is that we as residents really don't know what the balance sheets for Linden Lab are in regards this IP nor what projects they are piggy backing off of Second LIfe. For example, they are developing a new voice service to bring that tech in house and using Second Life as the test bed for it. That project may end up getting packaged up and sold to other interested parties down the line. So while for the residents Second Life is an online social platform, for Linden Lab, it that and maybe a little or a lot more. Whatever their plans are, keeping it as a test bed, keeping as just a virtual social space, or selling it off to a third party, so long as it's paying it's way and making someone money somewhere, I really don't see it going away for a long time. But then, I'm ever an optimist. I prefer to not live in a world of perpetual shadows.
