If you suspect your account has been compromised, contact us immediately.

    Follow these steps:

    1. Login to your account on the Second Life support portal.
    2. Enter the following:
      • Under What type of problem are you having?, select "Account Issue" from the drop down menu
      • Under Account Issue, select "I believe my account has been compromised."
      • Fill in the rest of the fields as directed.
      • Copy the Tracking Number for your new ticket
      • You will receive an email containing your ticket information.
Once we look over your submission, Linden Lab will place your account on hold, and investigate the relevant transactions. This may take a few days in some cases. Once we have finished the investigation, we will send you an email explaining our conclusion and explaining the action that will be taken with respect to your account. As a reminder, all transactions involving Linden Dollars are subject to our Terms of Service (TOS).

Hi Quartz, can you help answer for us (ok, "royal us") if there is a "forward-looking Second Life Calendar" for observation of special days in Second Life such as the "International Women's Day", which we could consult if needed?

    Thank you!

    This any help?

If LL is being asked to support and sometimes does the wider social issues like Pride month or International Women's day, and those events are an accurate reflection of those real world events, how is it even reasonable to expect the topic to stay within the bounds of Secondlife only? The only solution is for LL to only offer and support what is SL only if they want residents to only deal with the issues within world.

It seems to me perfectly possible to distinguish between, on the one hand, posts discussing International Women's Day, or Pride, in SL and, on the other, posts discussing International Women's Day or Pride in general.      It seems to me similarly possible to distinguish between posts discussing International Women's Day in SL and feminism and women's rights in general.

Posts that fail to observe this distinction are likely to be removed.

  4. Difficult though it is, I must ask people to concentrate on the forum topic, International Women's Day in SL, and try not to allow the thread to morph into a discussion of wider social issues.

No Discussions Not Directly Related to Second Life: Please keep all threads relevant and directly related to Second Life and Linden Lab. Anything unrelated to Second Life is subject to moderation. This includes, but is not limited to, politics, social issues, current events, and Non-SL discussion posts (Examples such as tell me a joke, make me laugh, etc). If the thread could exist on a non-Second Life Forum, that is probably a good sign it doesn’t belong here.

    Thanks, Quartz!

I hope that my constructive interpretation (directly above your post) of the technical aspects of Seamless Region Crossing, and Environmental Impact, meets with the Community Guidelines!

Just as Second Life is "All Fun!", my post was intended to be in that same "Spirit of Fun".

    Thanks,

    Love

I had to remove some posts, and replies quoting them, because what should have been calm discussions about technical issues seemed to have become somewhat emotionally charged.   Since your post is still there, you may draw your own conclusion.

  6. Friendly reminder that the Community Participation Guidelines say

We want to foster an honest and open exchange of ideas on our community pages; to do that, we want to encourage all participants to maintain an atmosphere of courtesy and respect for others at all times. Creating a constructive place for conversation will help us build a strong, better informed community in Second Life, and make both our communication channels and our world a more supportive and engaging place for all.

  7. I've just removed several posts because tempers seemed to be getting rather frayed.

    As the Community Guidelines say,

Sometimes this is best done by stepping away from the keyboard for a while before posting.   At other times, as has been noted, it's best done simply by ignoring particular posts or posters.

It's what it says, but it's not how it goes down for real. Newbies will tend to IM the mentor who first helped them. Telling them no because it's not work hours is not how it goes down. People who want to help will keep helping, even when they're burning out because they never get a break.

My resident account was a mentor at one point (not the old Mentors, but at one of the hubs where new users rez) and I have to say that's not my experience.

Sometimes I'd get a couple of questions later in IMs, but normally after I'd got people started they'd had enough of me and that was the last I heard of them.

  9. Friendly reminder that a detailed and lengthy debate with an individual poster in the thread about particular points of dispute is, if it must be pursued, probably best carried on outside the public forum.

  10. Please can we stipulate, for the purposes of this discussion, that LL has the legal side of things covered?   Unless, that is, someone who's qualified in US employment law thinks they're not?

I ask because I think a discussion of what Mentors Programme should be like, and what it should avoid, is probably going to be a lot more interesting and constructive than a technical debate about a specialist area of law that probably very few of us know in any detail.

I know you're just the messenger here, Quartz, so this is not directed at you . . .

. . . but this is disappointing. As Rowan, Sam, and others have suggested above, this smells of a bait-and-switch. People have the right to know that they are going to encounter Adult content before they TP in.

Indeed, that's the whole point of a rating system. If we're going to reduce this to "leave if you don't like it," we might as well not have one at all.

You're right that I'm only the messenger.

I simply drew this thread to the attention of Governance and have shared their response.

If, however, anyone has concerns about the actual content of any ad boards they encounter in-world, rather than the hypothetical ad boards under discussion here, they should report them and let Governance take it from there.

I would, though, point out that, by default, residents' maturity settings are set to General and Moderate (I created a new account to double-check this)

    551c9a0ed110a5b96525930a8a83267c.png

and, unless the resident has previously taken the positive decision that they want to encounter Adult content and changed their setting, the teleport will fail and they'll see this

    58da671da3f59a245f90cfdf3eb0af81.png

So no one will actually encounter Adult content unless they've indicated that's what they want to happen.

Opinions please, I've already looked up the rules and it's not clear (to me anyway)

Can I advertise a place on Zindra on moderate land if I only describe the non-adult activities that can take place there?

Its Zindra, so obviously there are adult things too, but if I don't mention them , is advertising allowed?

Directing me to the appropriate rule would be helpful.

    Thank you.

Oh by the way, why are XXX activities now allowed to be advertised on the coming events section of the SL webpage.

I've checked this with Governance and they tell me that, so long as it's not being advertised as an Adult event, it's OK.    So stick to describing the non-adult activities on offer and you should be OK, even though visitors may encounter Adult activities there, too.

    Hope this helps.
