  1. I've just removed a post containing a completely uncalled for attack on another poster, and a couple of posts replying to it.

These forums are not the place to air grievances with other posters.   Do it in personal messages if you must, and if you think their behaviour in these forums is objectionable, report the offending posts and we'll take a look.

But don't post about it in public threads.

[07:02] LH - Fantasy - House Controller v1.0 AAf: Sorry, but the scripts in the HouseController have just been reset and are still initializing.
Please try again in a minute or two.

I actually wanted to keep the first but gave up due to this :´( I was this one: http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Covendale/45/110/21  But oh well its tuesday i guess :) And yes i did wait for quite a while and pressed the initialiser to reset it a few times with no result.

    The other one: http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Ginseng/192/175/26

I've just visited both locations and reset the house controllers by left clicking on them and holding down the left mouse button for 10 seconds before releasing it.

I had this happen to me too. A long touch didn't fix the issue. I had to file a ticket. They got it fixed quickly.

I don't think you can have held down the left mouse button for long enough.  Hold it down for 10 seconds (time it if necessary) before releasing it.   If that doesn't work, drop me a message and I'll take a look, but I'm pretty sure that's the problem.

We're working on a tool to unfreeze all the house controllers remotely, but until that's ready the long-touch should fix it.

    Sorry for the inconvenience.

  4. Tempers seem to be getting rather frayed, and I've had to remove several posts.

    Please, remember the forum guidelines:

    Quote
    • Interpersonal Disputes or Personal Negative Commentary: If you have a personal disagreement, do not post about it on the Second Life community pages. Residents who have personal differences have other channels of communication available to them — private messaging in the forums, IM within Second Life, or chatting within Second Life.
    • No Flaming: "Flames" are hostile or disruptive posts, or messages intended to incite an angry response. Spirited discussion and constructive disagreement are welcome, but name-calling and airing of grievances are not appropriate in our discussion areas. We will also not tolerate any post that encourages others to violate any policy of Linden Lab

For what it's worth, I think a new thread on "How does your avatar look when enhanced by AI?" might be a very good idea, not least since it could be argued that this thread is supposed to be about How does your avatar look today? rather than How can third-party software enhance images of your avatar today?   Those seem to me to be two different, though clearly related and equally valid and interesting, topics.

But that's just a suggestion rather than any sort of official ruling.

Whatever you post, though, please keep let's keep things civil.

last Friday I noticed someone working in SSP83X (usually used for home controller debug),

SSP83X is where Dyna and I tend to work when we're not working elsewhere.   We could be working on any number of things. Could be house controllers but could be a lot more besides, not always Linden Homes related.

I was also very excited for the mirror reflection but it is not what I am expecting it to be lol! In layman, PBRviewer is like taking a snapshot of the scene and pasting it in a reflective surface so you wont see your reflection in real time and the reflection depends on your camera angle, not how your avatar will see her self and her surrounding. Although I never tried seeing it in mouse look.

At this point, or so I understand it, reflections aren't supposed to be used for making mirrors (though they can be, as noted above, if you don't mind trashing your frame rate and stressing your GPU).  At present, they're primarily for changing the way light and shadows are reflected from/projected onto surfaces, so you don't have to bake those into textures.    I'm told we may get actual mirrors at some point, but not yet.

See the discussion here for more details

I really didn't notice any changes at my PBR-enabled Region parcel yet.

ETA: Except maybe reflections at night, I'd have to try a non-PBR viewer.

That's to be expected -- Linden Lab's engineers have been trying to ensure legacy content doesn't dramatically change its appearance as a result of PBR.   We in LDPW are finding, though, that PBR content looks far better than does legacy content made with the Blinn-Phong model.   You'll should also find, if you play around with interior probes inside buildings, that you have much more control over local lighting that you did before (so, for example, you can stop lights shining through walls).

This seems to me an eminently sensible procedure.

    1) Discuss it here, on the forums, and get feedback about possible pros and cons, as well as elaborations or suggestions.

    2) Make sure it gets on to LL's radar by raising it in person at a user's group meeting

    3) Take all that feedback, and turn it into a JIRA.

The main snag I see is that it can sometimes be difficult to get heard at user group meetings: they are long, noisy, and tend to be dominated by those who attend frequently. Sometimes comments and queries there just get lost. In my experience, anyway.

Overall, though, this seems a good plan.

There's no need, of course, to attend the user group meetings before submitting a jira request or report.

But if someone is thinking of submitting a request and wants to discuss it with the Lindens who will be dealing with it, that's the way to do it.   Pinging them in the forums won't do any good.

So .. To make a feature request for an alternative means to make a suggestion/bug report to JIRA, based on how it's incomprehensible for mere immortals such as I .. I would have to submit a JIRA?

Good thing I seldom have any good ideas!

    It's not difficult.

    1) Go to https://jira.secondlife.com/secure/Dashboard.jspa.   If necessary, log in with your Second Life username and password.

    2) Click the Create button (top of the page, at the right).

    363f27ce3e20574d9cdddb0a8bfe8d6e.png

    3) This opens the Create Issue window.

Select Bug Project (BUG) from the project drop down (if it's not already showing)

Select "New Feature Request" from the Issue Type drop down (if it's not already showing).

Fill in the rest of the form and click "Create".

Yes much easier to quietly sweep it under the carpet in the Jira then from the forums.

If you have a feature request or want to report a bug with something, then you should submit a jira about it, which guarantees it will at least be seen by the relevant Lindens.    By all means discuss it in the forums first, but don't ping Lindens in your posts in the hope that they'll see your post and act on it -- they won't.  Nothing can happen unless you first submit a jira.

If you want to discuss your feature request with the relevant Lindens before submitting it, then you should do that at the relevant in-world user group meeting, where you're sure to find the people who'll be dealing with the feature request if and when you later submit it.

So I've found the 'ignore' button so I no longer have to see posts from a particular user, but I also want them to no longer be able to see or interact with my posts.

"Block" is a pretty standard option on most forums for dealing with stalkers and trolls, so where's it hidden on the SL forums?

You can't stop other people from seeing your posts, I'm afraid.  Nor can you prevent their reacting to them.   As far as I know, the forum software doesn't allow it.

@Quartz MoleThe problem with your hypothesis is that I kept getting a message to go get a HUD.

That baffles me.  The fact you're getting the message tells me the bucket is working.   Am I correct in thinking that your HUD works on most parcels and fails only on a few?  I can think of some circumstances in which the HUD might not hear/respond to messages from the bucket, but none of them would be intermittent -- it would either work or it wouldn't.

When this has happened, do you remember if it was on the first parcel you tried after attaching the HUD/logging in, or was the HUD working properly and then it suddenly stopped?   And did you do anything between trying it on a parcel where it didn't work and trying it on a parcel where it did (changing regions, reloging, etc)?

If anyone can send me a slurl for a parcel where this is happening, I'll check it out and try to fix it for next year, but at the moment I can't do anything  because I simply don't have enough information and I don't have the time to try to find a parcel myself.

  13. It looks that way, but it's a pathcut, hollowed and sliced prim, 32 metres long.   All you can see is the visible bit.

This is where the root actually is:

That's with "edit linked" checked.  If I uncheck it, the cross-hairs revert to the centre of the tree.

Gave up my Sakura home. It was nice but not 'vital'.

Rolled the dice twice, got one with an open path to the river on the second roll.

The tree was already there some somebody'd already been here today and decided a sailable path to the ocean was not important. Sure... it lets out on the south side of the ocean so I have to sail around the continent to get anywhere because "reasons". But this will do until and unless I take this alt to Premium Plus to get a better sailing path in and out.

When were doing our post-release checks on random regions we looked for unowned parcels on which to test the rezzers, and deliberately left tree houses there when we'd finished. Maybe it was one of those.

@Quartz Mole While I'm done hunting now, the bucket not sensing the HUD happened quite often, even after HUD reattach. I learned to look out for it and keep clicking the bucket. After a few clicks, the two communicated. Sorry I don't have any idea which locations had that problem.

It could be that you were clicking something else without realising it.    I've noticed that quite often the actual size of the mesh on which a flower or leaf is displayed is considerably larger than the visible part of the flower or leaf texture, so you may be clicking on that instead of the bucket.  Quite often when I was camming round checking things with the Fantasy Tree Houses before we released them I found myself clicking part of the tree rather than the door or window I wanted to touch, until I actually flew up (or climbed up the rope -- more fun) to stand in front of whatever it was I was trying to open and close.

Because this game needs to work with (everyone) scripts turned off, a bucket and hud do not communicate. Rather, both the bucket and hud only send and receive messages to the server, which contains the complete game state. For each collector (agent), the server has list of all the owners (agents) whose buckets were touched. No duplicate state is maintained. Assuming a correct implementation, the count in the hud following processing is the number of owner agents on the list.

There may be some odd cases that confuse the collector. For example, you enter a parcel with scripts disabled, add your hud, and touch the bucket. It says your hud is detached because the hud has yet to notify the server that it has been attached because scripts are off.

The HUD and the bucket do communicate, even on no-script parcels, because the HUD script calls llTakeControls

    Quote

If a script has taken controls, it and other scripts in the same prim will not be stopped if the Agent enters a "No Outside Scripts" parcel. This is done to keep vehicle control alive and AOs functional. This is an intentional feature.

However, because of an oversight, we neglected to call llTakeControls in the script that displays the total, which is in a child prim.   That will be remedied next year.

That having been said, the only communication between the HUD and the bucket is when the bucket is touched, at which point it pings the toucher's HUD using llRegionSayTo, to confirm they're wearing a HUD (and tells them to go and get one if it doesn't receive a timely response), and then again after it's finished checking the toucher hasn't previously collected anything from that parcel and updating the toucher's score, to tell the HUD to re-read the updated score from the server.

That's why this rather puzzles me

7 hours ago, Eirynne Sieyes said:

One other problem I've noticed is the Pumpkin doesn't always know my HUD is actually connected and tells me to get a HUD. Reattaching HUD doesn't do anything.

Unless, as diamond suggests above, the bucket is on a no-script parcel and you've attached the HUD after entering that parcel, I don't see how that can happen.     If someone can drop me a slurl for a parcel where this is happening, either in a private message here or in an IM, I'll check it out.

  17. If buckets aren't responding, try again after the next round of region restarts.   That should get them running again.  Or message me with the region name, and I'll restart it (but please first ask the parcel owner to re-rez the bucket and. message me only if that doesn't work).

We've made a note of the various issues and they should be fixed for next year's event.

I think we are supposed to use lots of deductive reasoning to "know".

    I'll give it a try.

Observation #1: Ranch 2048 is already "out"

Observation #2: Next 2048 theme is not "out" yet

Observation #3: There hasn't been a lot of "chatter" about the next 2048 theme

Observation #4: It is easier to release more Ranch 2048 than the Next 2048 theme.

Conclusion: More Ranch 2048 will be released first!

Now my noggin' hurts from all the extra thinkin'.

    @Quartz Mole, how'd I do?

    I'll tell you soon™
