  1. Please don't discuss, or even allude to, the details of the allegations in the article/blog post, particularly since Brad says

While early preliminary internal investigations suggest that some of the accusations are unfounded, I want to make sure that we get additional investigative support externally to ensure that the process is fair and thorough.

I've set an alt that I accidentally let renew for a year the task of finding a Fantasseria parcel which is close enough to a rez zone that I could run ferries from it, and also close enough to a shore that said ferries could go to Eyrie etc. easily.  I see that many such parcels are available, just haven't gotten one yet.  She's hopping 4 or 5 times a day, and has abandoned many gorgeous parcels with the wrong geography for my needs.

What she HAS found is that many of the parcel controllers give this message when she touches them.

She's been successful at resetting most of the ones she's found.  It takes a long touch of anywhere from 10 seconds to a minute.  It does not matter where she touches on the surface, or if she touches the root prim (a small white cube inside the controller, near the ground).  She tries a few times, often just getting the same message over and over.  Then, if I have time, she'll go away and try again an hour or so later, and often that works.  (I'm beginning to suspect this bug is time-of-day related; perhaps the reset message gets lost if a server is too busy).  If I don't have time to fool with it, she files an abuse report, which amusingly turns out to be on Quartz (sorry, my friend).  You might think I should file a bug report, but the moles are well aware of this issue, so I don't see the point.  I believe they've done something to this script over time, because I think the "reset" message has changed.  It is now:

So far, about a fourth of the homes she's caught had this problem.  Earlier in her search, the percentage was higher, but perhaps the top of the Land Page queue was a bit clogged with nice parcels that had stuck controllers?  Anyway, she's told me that she feels like she's a Fantasseria housekeeper.  Poor little fae!

Sorry it's taken so long to get this fixed (it was blocked by something else, which proved far more difficult to fix than the issue with the housecontrollers, but we got there in the end.

We've just finished updating all the Fantasy regions.   Any problems with the house controllers please let me know, but I think the problem is now solved (you shouldn't now see that message again but, if you do, it will reset the script, which should fix whatever was the initial problem).

I wonder if they really will be Med homes.  It's very odd that they're not connected to the Meds, and the names .... to me, these sound more like Ranch region names.  But then, the Northeast corner of the Med subcontinent has a block of 6 regions with names like these.

I think all of us here on the forums should quickly colonize Weekend Princess together, whatever theme it turns out to be.  That includes you, Matthieu!

I keep hoping that more hand-crafted Traditional regions will be built - some of the Olde Belli areas are so inventive!  But that's just a pipedream, I think.

Can we all come visit?  🙏

I think the people thinking up names interpreted "Mediterranean" as a reference to climate rather than geography.    That's what I'm told, anyway.

Makes you wonder which Mole, or Linden would most like to know about this! Maybe @Viola Mole would be a good start, since she follows the discussion?

I've just checked those two teleporters.   The Paleoquest one was working when I tried it, but the Linden Realms one needed a restart.   We're aware that they're stalling intermittently and a fix is in QA at the moment.

  5. Fascinating and important though this discussion of the differences between Britain and England certainly is, I am not at all sure it's on-topic for a thread about Bellisseria.

Now there's a good idea. Would LL be able to provide a free translator at the Welcome Hub?  The one I use is not free, but's come in handy when trying help newbies who don't speak English well.

I don't think it works in the viewer, but I can certainly recommend DeepL Translate.    I've used it to help people with questions about their Linden Homes in a variety of languages, including Ukrainian and Japanese,  by copy-pasting their side of the conversation from the viewer into the app, and typing my replies in the app and copying them into the viewer's chat.    Certainly it's turned what they said into comprehensible English and they seemed to understand my replies.

Moles whose first language isn't English who've taken a look at it all tell me its translations to and from their languages are perfectly acceptable, too.

Hello everyone, I am a current doctoral candidate at Pacific University. I am genuinely curious about the utilization of the virtual world (specifically in Second Life) among autism spectrum disorder communities. I am wondering if there are any support groups I can contact to recruit participants for my study. I appreciate any help in advance. Also, I would appreciate any insight into such a topic. Thank you so much!

and refrained from a wider discussion of autism and the propriety or otherwise of trying to make jokes about it.

  8. Unfortunately,  it seems impossible to keep this thread on topic -- The New Second Life Community Exhibition -- because some people are determined to use it to conduct a discussion of males using female avatars.  I'm closing it.

Why people can't open another thread if they want to discuss a particular topic is beyond me.

Not sure you read what they claimed Quartz or maybe it's phrased oddly.  They said that vehicle LI comes out of the region total regardless if it's sat on or not.

Whilst obviously every object in a region counts towards the region prim limit, I'm sure you know that when a vehicle is just rezzed out in a parcel, then it's LI also comes out of the total for that parcel as well - which was pertinent to earlier discussion about abandoned vehicles filling up parcels.

Yes. When no one is sitting on the vehicle, it counts against the parcel limit.   When someone is sitting on it, it counts against any unused LI available on the region.   Either way it counts against the hard limit of of the region's total LI.

I talked to some of the leaders of the Drivers of SecondLife group the other day at the community exhibition event, who informed me that vehicle LI always counts towards region impact, regardless if sat on or not.

I will have to test it to be sure myself later. I do keep a small parcel on the mainland, so maybe I can  try filling it up with prims and then trying to drive a vehicle into it to see what happens.

They were correct.   When a vehicle has someone sitting on it, it's a bit like a temp-on-rez object, in that its LI is set against any spare LI on the region that's not being used for anything else.

When Abnor and his team are calculating the LI budgets for Linden Homes regions, they have first to set aside enough LI to cover every parcel owner on the region choosing the house with the highest LI and then using all their parcel's LI for decorating.

They subtract that from the total region LI and then draw up a budget to cover the region infrastructure and decor -- roads, pathrways, rocks, trees, bushes, flowers and so on -- and also leave a margin to allow a small number of vehicles to pass through.

In practice, of course, there will generally be more spare LI available for vehicles than the budget allows, since not everyone is going to choose the most expensive house and not everyone is going to max our their parcel LI,  but the total region LI of 22,500 is a hard limit, and it includes all vehicles on the region at any given time.

  11. 'We've received several reports that various related posts about IMVU, shopping in SL, LL's attitude to maintaining backwards compatibility, and other subjects, were off topic.

This thread is supposed to be about the semi-humorous discussion of pet peeves rather than detailed debates about particular topics, so I'm inclined to agree,  but after I'd started marking up posts for removal and realised I'd selected 35 of them with several pages to go, I gave up, since it's clearly a discussion several people wanted.

Please, though, in future, consider starting separate threads in the appropriate subforum to conduct in-depth discussions of particular topics.    Let's keep this thread to pet peeves without going into too much detail about them.

  12. Please remember that the Forum guidelines say

    Quote

No Discussions Not Directly Related to Second Life: Please keep all threads relevant and directly related to Second Life and Linden Lab. Anything unrelated to Second Life is subject to moderation. This includes, but is not limited to, politics, social issues, current events, and Non-SL discussion posts (Examples such as tell me a joke, make me laugh, etc). If the thread could exist on a non-Second Life Forum, that is probably a good sign it doesn’t belong here.

To my mind, this means that discussions of how particular legislative changes may affect Second Life are on topic but that discussions of wider polticial ideologies or social trends that may be behind the legislative changes are off topic.

I think this thread needs to be resurrected!

I need to thank the moles and the LH queues for bringing me this intriguing Mediterranean parcel.  It has 5 ponds near it (!), and @Garden Mole (whom I don't believe reads the forums), @Moonstruck Mole, and even @Quartz Mole have conspired to create the most beguiling soundscape.  Songbirds, ducks, frogs, insects, gentle plashes, gurgles around rocks, daytime noises, nighttime noises.  This is mostly Garden's work.  Tho the parcel is not as beautiful as others I've had, and this avatar was supposed to go Basic tomorrow,  I may feel compelled to keep it for a month...

The soundscapes throughout Bellisseria are all Garden's work.  I don't know if he reads the forums but I'll make sure he sees your post.
