I tried the low stakes slots & found them boring.

Just now I tried the low stakes Blackjack & found that to be fun.

If I'm bored in SL, I might play this, but never with my own money.

Btw, how is Blackjack not a skill game? You have to be able to figure out your odds of winning or losing your hand.

I really appreciate the idea from LL to try giving us residents more entertainment x3

I will totally try it too, and luckily I am able to just walk away from it when my daily tokens ran out.

...when I play black jack with my friends it's more like it's not much skill used from my side "WOOHOOGIMMEANOTHERCARD...WHOOPS" I swear I'm not gentle hahaha my husband is all calculating XD

I also wonder what will happen to the skill games regions with this new concept 🤔

Far be it for me to guess why gambling addicts become addicts I suppose, but without the possibility of winning something eventually, it is not gambling. Its just a buy-in fee, like a cover charge to access a club. The tokens, the twitter post clearly states, have no real value and are not exchangeable. Entertainment purposes only. I doubt many gambling addicts would bother with simply virtually pulling slot levers without the slimmest hope of getting anything else out of it. Its the hope of one day hitting a jackpot that has them hooked, isn't it?

I am a clinical psychologist working in the field of paediatric psycho-oncology and although I work with kids, I still fully understand what makes it addictive for adults and it was discussed in here already and no it's not hitting the jackpot.

But honestly I am starting to get really tired of this discussion, but I bet Google is a huge help when you truly want to inform yourself about gambling addiction 💙

The casino reminds me of Las Vegas, with the desert environment.

Somebody at LL apparently thought an Egyptian theme would be cool in such a setting and liked the Anubis avatar.

It makes as much sense as other themes in Las Vegas. The Luxor has an Egyptian theme too.

I was in Las Vegas once in the 90s for like 2 days for a wedding of my grandpa's American friend. I was too little to enter any Casino I just remember everything was so very flashy and loud to my eyes and don't get me started on American food XD and I was born and raised in Tokyo 🗼 so a really big city too I can only imagine what someone feels coming there from a small village or such 😂

I don't know that I am having this more recently, but it is frustrating and can result in important things being lost when cleaning out the lost and found folder if no copy. Paws and eyes from furry avatars,  dance huds, jewelry etc.

I found my teeth in there, for a week I was going around without my teeth in, no one mentioned it to me, presumably amused to see me looking less than my best !

I admit I sat here at my lunch break laughing loud while reading this x3 it's bad that no one told you tho x3 I will check my lost and found as soon as I log in after work 😂

So I don't know am I the only one that finds it a little unsettling that Anubis, god of the underworld and graves and stuff is SocialCasino Linden's Outfit of choice? XD it's surely nice and well made but also ...an interesting choice 😆

*Didn't wanted to derail the Mole thread 💜

  6. Hm okeee... So residents are in worries and anger ... LL hiding in the shadows hoping it will all go away, trying to silence people with taking away their free speech x3

Well any sane person would have tried to seek the dialogue with the residents...but I guess some people at LL obviously have left the horizon of common sense light-years behind them and are still accelerating...

I really thought they learned from the bot massacre...that talking and listening to their residents is much better than staying silent.

Hopefully a smart entrepreneur will have actual "employees" at the venues, to add to the "Social" and "roleplay" aspects.

Hopefully and that way more people can profit off of it and earn shinies so maybe now escorting will be less attractive. Lol Well nah but you get the idea.

But LL surely opened Pandora's box with this one x3

What a really excellent question, Katherine.

And I'm willing to bet we're going to learn the answer -- someone out there is going to try to do exactly that. And they'll likely be competitive, assuming it's permitted: most resident entrepreneurs aren't going to be inclined to gouge quite so much for chips.

At our lunch date today my husband said something similar. He thinks in like 2 weeks there will be plenty of Casino's in SL and with the amount that LL charges, you can still make a huge profit when taking just half of their prices.

Thank you for clarifying ...  I really was confused - like other's,  still feel like I'm missing something obvious.

I'm a social gambler.  I enjoy meeting people from all over at the tables.

If they had live music/DJs,  and people there were friendly, and if they had a roulette table and maybe a craps table.... it could be fun.  They do,  however,  need at least boobie prizes!

I'm a boardgamer in RL and we also play pen and paper RPs ...I miss places like that in SL a NICELY made boardgames place would have been nice. I miss this place that had a game called fruitcake or something like that, I can't find this game inworld anymore 😭

There goes the neighborhood! Next thing you know, we will start seeing pawn shops, strip clubs, gun shops, and marijuana dispensaries.  All of our benches will have unhoused residents sleeping on them, the parks will have tents set up on them.. drug abuse will run rampant, and crime will be on the rise.

May as well setup a Walmart, bad Love!! BAD Lion!

On a less serious note...someone should go and claim the domain "secondlifepeopleofwalmart.com" x3

  11. I am all for self responsibility.

My mom was an alcoholic for example, so I never drank (don't get me wrong I got drunk once or twice as teen but haven't touched alcohol in 2 decades), luckily I haven't had to grow up at hers for long.

But my point basically is "wat" too. I was honestly deeply shocked to see this post was officially from LL and had to stare at it for a while and went on further investigation. My husband was like "they are probably just advertising some residents casino which is bad too". Nope they weren't.

And when I saw HOW much they charge...common these prices are beyond ridiculous and I deeply with all my heart hope they will fail so hard with this.

Can't believe I defended them loud and proud when they increased fees. Yeah one needs food, home and more but man I couldn't look in the mirror anymore after this stunt.

But that's probably just me XD and it's 3 am maybe I'm oversensitive but still meh. It's probably just this feeling of disappointment, because I thought otherwise of LL but thats my own fault and I will act accordingly.

  12. Some in the other thread and this one said it's not gambling because nothing to win. I earlier mentioned the father of my friend...he still plays no Apps where it is about winning, I talked to him about this case here now.

And he was very clear to me that the triggering thing is not the win of money, it's nice side effect. But he said the thing that's best for gamblers is the "could be" feeling and the machine shows you WIN they just don't give out money. It's the no difference for an addict he said. And he's not even playing Candy Crush or such things, because you can compete with friends on there.

Although, I think this is one of the shadiest things I've ever seen LL do, it's not technically gambling but RP.  Costly RP promoted by LL but still just RP.

This. I must admit I firstly felt sadness when I saw I that, I was deeply disappointed.

This is exactly what I was thinking seeing their Twitter post. If it was only for RP reasons...why not 10L for tokens well or free ones.

And it's not only promoted by them, it's made by them, see the SocialCasino Linden that receives the payments. I am just meh now at this point tbh.

Maybe @Patch Lindenwould like to weigh in on this less-than-stellar idea?

At least with Gaming Regions there's the possibility of winning something of value.   This just seems predatory, IMO.

They probably still are in the fire-out-putting wtf-have-we-done state. After seeing the "happy" tweet answers from their residents.

At least I hope they are, but maybe they just don't care at all, and it's just wishful thinking that they actually do care.

Accidentally quoting and not knowing how to remove a quote on mobile 😂

The thing I found especially weird is I haven't seen any positive feedback after they posted this on Twitter (they probably know why they haven't posted this on their blog so far ;) ) and I can not imagine that every Linden and Mole they asked was like "weeeee awesome idea"

Is there no one with common sense at LL that was like "we really shouldn't do this guys!" ?!

Only because they knew there are plenty of people who actually love gachas and didn't care about the whole "it's because of the laws and not out fault" kind of reason. They'd keep them in the previous form if they could as the new "miepon" replacement is nowhere as popular. Even if one gacha focused event just can't let it die and instead of closing like the other one now has double amount of events per year (8 instead of 4).

That said, this new casino thing is atrocious. One thing is when people/users try to find workarounds, they always do and always will. But since it's LL and they even promote it via their official channels... Meh.

I'm all for LL finding ways to make some extra money so SL would be around for a while longer and so they'd slice down another few $ from the region's tier, and hopefully without taxing merchants/users with extra purchase/cash-out fees. But this is not the way. Mobile viewer, visual upgrades, better starting avatars/experience are all decent ways to get new users and keep them around for more than a single login, so eventually some of them would "invest" into getting L$, land and so on, all of which would make LL money on the long run.

Fully agreed. I am all for them making money too, hence why I am Premium plus XD I want them to stay around as long as possible too.

I loudly supported even their fee increases because a Linden needs food in RL too.

And as I said I wouldn't even be angry if this was some residents doing this I am upset it's LL themselves x3

You'd think any such law would apply to the heavily advertised 'gambling apps' the same as they would be applied to Second Life.

I am referring to 'apps' that I saw advertised over and over and over on TikTok until I figured out how to block the app.  (Not sure I saw the same app advertised on FB.) "You are guarateed to win a trillion tokens within your first 3 seconds!", with RL people in the ads complaining about their old gambling apps.

  18. And beside everything else just to make it clear I would have been all for it when there wouldn't have been a daily free fix and then pay.

If it would be all free so like a new version of a social island kinda thing. Yay. ( Still not my kind of fun but I bet others love it)

But the moment they charge those ridiculous amounts of money for worthless tokens, just so they can pretend it's no gambling they lost all my respect.

Especially when you look at many countries having problems with inflation atm, although I am lucky that me and my husband have well paid jobs I don't forget that not everyone is that lucky.

It's just ethically questionable to do this the way they did. But I'm not here to convince anyone I stated my point more than clear I think, and that's it.

We can happily agree to disagree on this one ❤️

    No one has to play.

You know how addiction works right?

Sure you and me don't have to play, but I saw first hand with a friend's father when we were young what a gambling addiction does.

It's not cute. And when this up there is allowed within the American anti gambling law than they might want to overthink that one.

This is so very confusing! Why would LL promote gambling, say there are "free tokens", but also sell tokens? It certainly doesn't look good.

Plus, it seems obvious (to dumb lion) that they are competing with Skill Gaming Regions.

What next, Official Second Life "Love Hotels", "Escort Agents", and AFK Clubs?

    Wheeee!

Since the Casino Linden is named SocialCasino Linden, I expect to see some Sugardaddy Linden or Pimp Linden. Nah for real this one looks bad and is bad.

With all free tokens? Sure why not some kind of ...Casino RP? Where people can meet and chat and play games together. But that way? Nope, thank you.

The gacha ban isn't about ethics, it's about following the letter of the law. Gambling in spirit is very much alive on SL, but that particular form of gambling happened to run afoul of some law so they had to remove it. Note that gachas still exist, too, just rebranded to use a loophole where if you can see the next prize, it doesn't count as gambling - even if the idea is obviously that nobody wants that prize and actually pays for a new random one in queue.

There are also a lot of literal casinos on SL where you do play for money, and these avoid violating the gambling laws by introducing any, no matter how insignificant, "skill" element that influences the outcome by a specific, microscopic amount.

It's the same with this. In the ethical/"spirit" sense it's obviously gambling, but because prizes can't be exchanged for money, it doesn't violate that law. Maybe that helps clarify why they'd launch it.

I'm not stupid. But LL had a hard time telling their residents about the Gacha thing.

And now promote such a thing, it's a difference to have such things on the grid (because sure do it when the law allows it I'm all for it) to PROMOTING them actively... something LL doesn't do often anyways.

So the decision to actively promote this one is rather ... Unclever.

And highly unethical...it's only to prye on the ones having problems with addiction because no sane person drops 5k plus on something that is set to lose anyways.

Any person with no addiction problem uses their free tokens daily and walks away...the people that should have been protected buy this law, will sit there and by 5k and 10k tokens packages anyway.

And thats the point that disappointed me beyond words. It's one thing what loopholes residents use, but it's another when LL uses and abuses those on such a level.

Yep. I mean it would have been absurd even with the tokens being completely free after their gambling gacha crackdown, but this is really beyond absurd XD

And since you can't win it's a guaranteed loss for you. Which some people won't understand or won't care because addictive.
